The ground floor is a traditional dining area, nicely appointed. The second floor was closed so we didn't get to see it. We were seated on the third floor, which is more sports bar themed and includes both indoor and patio options. The patio was not in use due to the threat of uncooperative weather. We had reservations and were seated quickly. The service was attentive and friendly. Despite the New Orleans vibe, the menu had only a handful of Louisiana style dishes and was more in line with a typical variety menu. I was down for some Cajun cuisine but there were few dishes that looked attractive. We shared apps of flash fried Brussels sprouts with remoulade and some Cajun dry rubbed wings, both of which were enjoyable but far from exceptional. I also ordered the jambalaya, which was more of a very spicy chicken and andouille stew with a scoop of rice in the center, not my usual experience with jambalaya. I'm a spicy food guy but even I thought the spice level of the dish was pretty aggressive and probably too much for the average diner. My companions' dishes were merely okay. The place boasts a bourbon emphasis, but I found the wine and beer selections to be lackluster. At the end of the exercise the bill for four people with two or three adult beverages each, plus tax and tip, was a little under $300. We walked into the bar downstairs. Thankfully someone asked what we needed and then they were able to get our show wristbands. We were set and headed to dinner. When we returned after 7:00, there was someone right at the door handing out wristbands. We could have skipped the early drop in. Live and learn. I liked the small venue upstairs and the different chair options. We were early enough we had our choice of seats. I thought the sound was good, but we all had trouble understanding the singing. Of course I figured it was my ears, but after the show everyone admitted they had trouble as well. This seems like a possible limitation of the sound system. That said, the music itself sounded great. The Revival Room has its own bar and two bathrooms, one each outside the doors to the side of the stage. All of this is very convenient. We didn't eat or drink, so no comments on either. I checked the calendar and there's nothing coming up I'd like to see, but I wouldn't think twice about coming here for music.

It was disappointing that the waitress didn't ask which preparation we wanted, and that the kitchen apparently did not ask her, either. Our two pasta dishes were delectable and the amount of protein was quite generous. We both loved our sauces, and the spicy Italian sausage (house made!) was out of this world. They sliced it nice and thin and there was so much, I was really in Heaven. The fettuccine and the capellini were done to perfect al dente. Our waitress did a great job and checked on us often. I noticed that there is an area for 18-20 year old at the front of the business so they can enjoy the music. The quality of the sound was excellent and this is for a group with complicated sound and music. The prices at the bar are about average. I will keep my eye on their schedule for when they may have someone I can appreciate. When there are certain groups the seating is limited to the stools along the wall but I would imagine the age of crowd that would attend doesn't care about standing.

Upon being sat at our table, facing the stage in the middle of the room on hard chairs, we requested to move to one of the booths that are more comfortable and clothed. We were there earlier in the evening on a weekday, had a reservation, and there were plenty of booths available. In fact, every single booth was available. We nicely explained that someone in our group had a spinal issue. The hostess, who did not care about much of anything, said those were reserved. We said we had a reservation too. He said if folks did not show up for those he would let us move to one. Did those boots ever get full? No? Did the Host ever check in with us and act like he cared? Also, no. Did we go track him down an hour later when one of our guests was in severe pain asking to be moved? No, we did ask our server, but she made no efforts to help us. So, we left. We did spend an hour listening to the live music. It was a pretty uninteresting show, and no one in the space was even paying attention. That is not usually my experience in most jazz or music venues. The cocktail list was super uninspired by any standard. The cocktails remind me of a cheesy 90s club. I finally ordered a tiny shot of something in a little chocolate shell. The chocolate shell tasted good. Our group had a long history with 1313 Vine. The retiring person in our group used to party in the building above when it was the infamous Warehouse. In 2012, we really enjoyed going into the space as part of the Cincinnati underground tour when it was still a beer tunnel. This is a special space, but the lack of even decent service consistently over the years, poor music talent, and uninteresting drinks are doing this incredible venue, a sincere disservice. Perhaps the novelty of the location makes it easy to overcome all of the above, but not for us.
