Midlands Sweet Midlands. I've been a student here longer than I'd like to admit, all the while working full time and taking care of a little human. 10/11 of my professors have been wonderful people from which I have learned a great deal. It's getting close to the point at which I will transfer (though it took its sweet time), and honestly, I'll be sad to leave this place. Many of the facilities could use to be updated, though the new library ("Learning Resource Center") is fabulous. Also, a lot of the resources they offer for free that help single parents/ young students/ general clueless people like myself are scheduled exclusively during the day while I'm working. All in all, I think this is a good school with a bed rep that has some room for improvement. read more

Midlands Tech really needs to get it together. I am getting grants from the government to go back to school, and if I were paying for this school, I would be so pissed off. I wouldn't tell anyone to go to midlands technical college. The professor's never grade anything or get back to you in a timely manner, I have never been able to fill out a course evaluation, (I'm guessing they do not want to hear what I have to say) I have had two department heads for professor's since I have been attending midlands which I started a year and a half ago, and they are the worst one's out of the rest of the professor's. We are approaching on the last day of the semester in 3 days, and I still have work that has not been graded, and I have a final to take that is not even posted yet to be able to take. It is complete bullshit and it needs to be shut down, if this is how they are conducting people's education. read more

The finaincial aid lady that is supposed to help is never there and your finaincial aid documents are going to get messed up if handled by this school. Do not take the motorcycle course here! Poor equipment/ dangerous equipment, good cop / bad cop instructors and a willingness to bend rules for some but not for all. After visiting the Belt-line Campus, it is absolutely and utterly absurd what is required for their Financial Aid. Unless you are 24 or older, in other words age 23 don't waste your time applying or attempting to schedule classes. If FAFSA and CAP approves the applications, according to what was told this afternoon by the financial aid personnel, Midlands Technical College does NOT or is any way, shape, form or fashion required to accept them as payment if you file as an independent under 23 years of age with very very few exceptions. Like most, he went to work for the summer earning extra monies, moved to Columbia in his own apartment, got a full time job there, paid his own rent and bills, joined the South Carolina National Guard (by the way a VET) to serve his state and country and then applied for classes at Midlands. Not only for a degree but for the knowledge and advantage of becoming more knowledgeable and marketable thus earning a better lifestyle; perhaps pursuing an elevated degree. Sadly, this was all in vane and a total waste of time and lost income for his work. read more

Absolutely zero help from financial aid or anybody in their offices really. Veteran student trying to get assistance with benefits and was constantly transferred to different departments, zero returned phone calls and multiple voicemails left that were never returned. I cannot wait to leave this school. read more

This school is horrible the staff some ok, but will sit in your face and lie and swear that there.helping you the professors over work you exams like crazy no help and they always telling us they ain't got no classes except virtual.classes they are never helpful and want tell you anything about your grades until the last minute you never can get tutors because they only have them on airport, I have tried to maintain my classes until 2 teachers lied ther ass of and while I withdrawl feom the class the last teacher tells me I passed then gives me a f when the withdrawal process and school was over didn't know nothing g about anything till I started summer school they need to investigate this school they aren't for seniors or disable individuals trying to go back to school they treat toy like a regular fresh out of high-school and have the time they ignore your disabilities you have to complain about everything they need new teachers staff and everything don't go here if your disabled or a senior it's going to stress you the hell out don't go. read more

This is the worst school I ever attended, the trade school is a joke as well. I enrolled in a "class" to pursue front end development, and learned absolutely NOTHING in the "class". Had I not abandoned the game curriculum and went to free code camp and codecademy, I would have failed. They are horrible, don't waste your money, they just want money from FAFSA and the state. Quite possibly the worst experience I've ever had in my life! I would not recommend taking Midlands classes to anyone. Some teachers are wonderful, but other teachers do not seem to care about you. I really want this school to exceed. However, my experience with applying and registering for courses in a degree program has been utterly excruciating. I've spent countless hours on their complicated student website. This also includes watching orientation videos and taking quizzes. I've also made hundreds of phone calls and a few trips to their Beltline campus. The employees are nice but it is obvious that the this institution operates in dysfunctional silos. They really need to take student surveys and hire an independent party to help with streamlining their website, processes, and procedures. read more

This school is awful. the staff is rude, unhelpful, and completely incompetent. I enrolled and tried to register for classes, but they have dropped the ball on their end repeatedly, essentially blocking me from being able to start this month due to negligence and utter laziness. Every negative review on here is the truth! Find anywhere else to go. My son had the unfortunate experience of being in their dual enrollment program. It destroyed his GPA through no fault of his own. The instructors are unqualified and incompetent. He had an online class with someone who barely spoke English and had a doctorate in Philosophy. So why is that a problem? He was teaching chemistry. Does anyone think a doctorate in Philosophy qualifies you to do that? My son learned nothing. He had a friend who took the same class with a different teacher and his friend got an instructor who was helpful, gave excellent lectures, spoke English, provided resources and study guides, and gave the departmental final as required. My son's "lectures" consisted of the instructor literally reading the textbook to the class with no explanation. There were no resources, study guides, or help, and the instructor made up his own final. There were constant technical problems with their D2L. When my son reached out to the help desk numerous times he got nowhere and the problems were never resolved. In another class my son was accused of cheating because he "did too well." After fighting it and going through an academic review board he was completely exonerated of all charges because there was no evidence that he did anything wrong. The only thing he did do wrong was attending classes at this school! The outcome of this - was no apology and they refused to give him anything higher than a B. Because it was obviously his fault that this happened in the first place - that was their excuse. The administration of this school are hacks. We had to fight to get meetings with them and it was only after threats to report them to the state that they gave us a meeting but only for appearance's sake. They were not interested in anything we had to say, called us liars, stated they had already made up their minds, and then summarily dismissed us. The most smug, arrogant, self-important losers you ever could meet. Any problem you alert them to is met with aggression and finger-pointing at the student. They refuse to investigate anything. I encourage everyone here to file complaints with the state as I am in the process of doing. No one treats my child and myself this way without consequences. There is a new president coming in July. Good luck with that, he was the worst superintendent that Lexington 1 ever had. MTC is in the toilet and someone needs to flush and get it over with. This review is coming from an alumni and this is how they treat them and then expect donations. Shame on you! The only way to save this place is to fire the entire administration because the attitude problems here come from the top down, there are no standards or equity of curriculum between classes taught by different instructors, instructors are given free reign to do whatever they want and are backed up no matter how bad they are. If you want to learn something it won't be here because academics is not the focus, it is simply getting your money. read more

there are so many new staff members coming and going. college is already hard as it is but then you add all the damn changes to the students, they really arent motivated to continue learning. you take uninteresting classes that your 1st advisor gave you because you're a freshman or a transfer then the next semester you want to talk to them about getting better or more interesting classes and you find out you have another advisor. on top of that the professors are great in some classes but the ones that are new don't know how to work anything that comes from the college. the main one i'm talking about is d2l which is where all the material and assignments are for every class at mtc. if you have a first time professor there then they don't know how to manage it. i literally had to tell my professor basically how to use it because i've been there so many times. does the university even train them????? they're too busy making themselves have a mascot and being more "woke" than other universities. let me simplify it for everyone, college is great if you take interesting courses and are motivated. the college should share those same ideals in my opinion. they would rather not get canceled than actually help students out. what a joke!!!! i've been here for almost 5 years now part-time and have yet to be impressed by the school itself read more

They are awful made it a nightmare for both of my kids would drop classes for no reason would say needed to do this and never notify them. They would never let one child actually sign up for classes because of supposed FASFA mix up but then we get a collections notice because he was enrolled in a class he never signed up for and did not attend. Never got anything from them about it before sent to collections no bill or anything yet he had fasfa was not even 6 months they said he was enrolled in class. he was also in the hospital at the supposed time for about a mont called them they said cant discuss because in collections. I have been to 3 different higher education institutions (all 4 year colleges) and this is by far the worst. They charge you a dumb amount of fees ($700 just to take 3 summer classes) and then hide them in their website so you can't see what you're being charged for. 90% of the people employed there, if not more, or less competent than the people at my local McDonalds. I have lived in 4 different states, one U.S. territory, and the United Kingdom and I can say with certainty that this school has the highest concentration of incompetent people anywhere in the world. The VA reps here also regularly contradict each other which made it take almost 2 years to figure out how my schooling will be covered here. If you're looking for a job and have little to no qualifications check this place out because they'll take anyone clearly. I don't know how this place even has accreditation. read more

This school has far too many flaws, it's hard to name them all. My first year they mixed up my student ID number and told me I was never registered at the school multiple times and caused unnecessary stress for weeks. You can find a good professor every once in a while, I would have one good professor for every four bad ones. Take what you can get I guess. They've been unorganized and incompetent since the day I first registered for the school two years ago. This institution is the worst college I have ever come across and I regret my decision of choosing it every day. read more

If you ever want a return call (or return email) from anyone in administration, don't hold your breath. I've never been to a place where so many employees just don't give a you-know-what. My daughter completed the Patient Care Technician program there and received five certificates. One of her teachers, Ms. Eastham, always had a downright terrible attitude towards the AA students, but had a few "choice" other students, whom she treated well. My daughter did well in the class and has always been a great student, so I'm not sure why she and several others were singled out for Ms. E's disdain. No other teacher ever treated my daughter with disrespect. Also, during the clinicals, students were supposed to train for 4 or 6 hours per day, but were often told they could leave after just an hour, yet the full day would be marked down, so the students aren't even receiving the hands-on training that they are supposed to receive. I contacted MTC administration about this, then went to the SC Commission on Higher Education about this in mid-2015 because I certainly wouldn't want a nurse taking care of me who didn't receive all the training he/she should have received, and was told they would look into it and follow-up. This 'college' is disgusting. They intentionally withheld HR information from employees laid-off during Covid in order to keep those employees on the company insurance, only to send them a bill for said insurance months later, after many had applied to marketplace insurance. This has caused former employees (who were on the company insurance unbeknownst to them until June) to have an insurance conflict, which means that these employees now owe upwards of $3000 between the two companies. The excuse Midlands gave to employees was, "Well we have too many people on payroll to send out an email to inform them that we didn't take them off the company insurance, and it's really your responsibility to check with HR after being laid off". Sounds like you guys just wanted to collect stipends for keeping employees on the payroll during Covid, meanwhile those employees were technically laid off and not working, so you actually made money on people you laid off. One star is too many. Your students are probably being taught racist rhetoric as well. read more

I had a bad 1st impression of Midlands Tech, but I am enjoying my Medical Terminology course so much. Ms.Youngblood is such a sweetheart. I was sick and had to miss class on a Wednesday May 2017. I called Ms. Youngblood and she took the time to review what I missed so that I would not get behind. Ms. Youngblood knows her stuff and cares about our success in the course. I'm officially wowed!! The staff are completely incapable of doing anything professional even if their lives depended on it. They are totally unhelpful, slow to do anything to the point of making you miss opportunities you could of taken advantage of if you were able to know or even have someone return your call. Takes over a month to get admitted after paying them, never can get a call back from anyone and the advisors take random breaks with out a heads up to new students leaving them stranded, unable to move forward until weeks, months even, to get into a course. Waste of time. Perhaps why they have such a low graduation rate. read more

Midlands Tech Beltline campus reminds me of a welfare office or free clinic. If your idea of an education is being stuck in a room with no A/C with low income housing next door and multiple vagrants wondering around the campus looking for "bus fare" then beltline is the place for you. If not and you can't afford or want a big name college then Midlands Tech Airport campus is a better idea. read more

To all student : If you apply for federal aid and scheduled full time 4 classes but don't get approved for federal aid make sure to cancel all your classes do not rely on the school. Midland Tech will cancel three classes and the other one is your responsibility even thought you didn't schedule it. If you fail to cancel the class before the semester starts you will be charged the cost of the class as well as fees. If you do cancel the class before classes start you have to pay 179,00 of fees for a class you should of been dropped. For the children that don't check their e-mail of notices about a class they though was dropped. That's 800.00 to.900.00 a class per student it can add up to Millions of dollars. That 's a policy to only drop three not four class holding the child responsible. Why? Check your e-mail from school, check the status of your federal aid know your balance. I just received an email regarding to how much I owe as far as tutition fee. Mind you now, the fee payment is due on August 17th and I'm just receiving notice about how much I owe. Mid June I wasn't able to access my Mymtc account all the way up till now. I was able to receive the Life Scholarship Award which covered majority of my Tutition but it's saying that I still owe over $900 and 1/3 of that balance is for General Ed Courses. So I called the Cashier's Department and asked does my Life Scholarship cover my General Ed Course fee and the lady on the phone was very rude and apparently didn't know how to answer the question. She kept telling me that the Scholarship covers majority of my tutition and that I owe over $900. So I asked her how much do I owe as far as my General Ed course fee and the lady was like what do you mean? And she was silent as if she didn't know what I was talking about. Make a long story short, the lady was very rude and my question is still not answered regarding to my balance. Very disappointed read more

Comparatively cheap tuition and easy accessibility in multiple locations barely save this tech school from a multitude of other problems. Midlands tech employs some of the least professional (or competent) educators I have ever seen, and do little to enforce behavior rules to the students, the majority of which is low-income, who think everyone else wants to hear their music from their half-wrecked car, or inhale their second-hand smoke when they smoke a thirty second walk away from the designated smoking area. A large portion of students will go to this tech school to save money for a few semesters, and transfer to USC. That's a good option, just watch out for the transfer program's advisers sending you to inappropriate classes or making you wait an hour past your appointment to be seen. The campuses themselves, however, are beautiful and new. The facilities for students' comfort and educational opportunities are impressive, with a good-sized library for a tech school. The administrative staff are usually professional and courteous, but can be hard to reach and occasionally come off as inexperienced. If you need to save some money before going to a university, only want an associate's degree, are going for EMT, surgical tech, or automotive tech, this school may be appropriate for you. Largely because it is the only tech school in quite a large area. read more

If I could give no stars I would.. That school is the worst I've ever seen. They don't answer the phone... and when you are able to get someone the person you need to talk to isn't there or can't come to the phone and won't return a call. They are horrible and know nothing about helping someone with their financial aid and have managed to give me the wrong information. You make the drive out there and they give you the run around. When talking to someone on the phone they have a chip on their shoulders and act like your bothering them and wasting their time. When going out there its the same.. Nothing but BAD ATTITUDES.... That place needs to be shut down or every last person in there needs to be replaced with people that actually know what their doing and then after someone goes wrong they try to put the blame all on you.. when you've called and called and called and called and called and emailed and emailed and emailed and still emailed.. driven out there.. driven out there and driven out there and still driven out there trying to get help and to be able to talk to someone.. and by the time you are able to get things taken care of its..to late..
