I bought a $12,000 Scagg lawnmower and I called them up to ask what oil I use they told me 10 W-40 I asked him if it's supposed to be synthetic he said yes so then I asked him. Why didn't you tell me that from the very beginning I put the right oil in. He hangs up on me. Great service! I brought our 3 year old Toro Lawn Mower in for what I thought was going to be an expensive repair and they did some simple lubrication which solved my problem. I felt a little silly but now I'm educated about how to better maintain my mower and it didn't cost me much. They have a very helpful parts department also. Their service department is very busy keeping homeowner's and professional landscaper's equipment running in top condition so they'll probably need a day or so to get to your repair job. It's worth the wait though. If you're shopping for new landscape maintenance equipment, they've got that too! read more

Guy in the repair department doesn't wear a mask. They keep him in a separate room with the window removed from a door. But he'll approach you to take your credit card, or hand you paperwork. After 8 years, I thought it was time to take my riding lawn mower someplace for a tune up and replace belts. I always try to frequent local businesses. MPC provided pick up, I just left the mower out in the driveway. The Service center checked in and let me know about repairs and options. Local. Very pleased. The dropped the mower off and I could not wait to put on my headphones and drive it around. What!!! What's all this smoke !!! Service came out after closing and checked it out. Thankful. He made me feel stupid that the problem didn't repeat. He left. I started again!!! What!!! What's all this smoke!!! I video this time. After calling they came back to pick it up. I googled the problem and suspected oil overfilled. WAit wait. Follow up. Follow up. It's done and dropped off. Did they apologize? Offer a discount ? Call from a manager ? NOPE! read more

Was VERY disappointed with the service on my lawn mower. After paying over $180 for a tune-up/service I brought it home and my gardener tried to use it but it began to smoke and then stopped running. He discovered that there was a mouse nest in the housing that MPC hadn't cleaned out. read more

I bought a new Toro Push Mower from MPC. After one hour use the front wheel kept collapsing so I had to return it to MPC for repair. After three hours the rubber guard to prevent discharge kept falling off; that was a faulty design with minimal parts to hold it in place. I repaired it myself with $6 of Super Glue. After 12 hours some plastic part inside the Air Intake came lose. I brought it to MPC July 3rd as their Web site said they were open........they weren't! Returned July 5th told it would be TWO WEEKS to check it out and order parts. That's it for me...I'm done with Toro and MPC! read more

Called and left messages 3 times in an 18 hour period and never heard back from them. Somebody does not have a handle on communications and follow up. The proper people are not getting messages and the customer doesn't get a call back. It reflects on all aspects of the company. read more

Friendly staff that does not give you the typical "BS" when trying to sell you something. I own a landscaping company in the Madison area and after experimenting with other power centers around town, I chose to go to MPC. Lets just say I wish I had made the switch sooner. We bought an Ariens snowblower at Middleton Power Center in early fall two years ago. Part of the sales pitch was that if we bought it here (as opposed to a store like Sears) they would give us priority service so it would be fixed quickly, and it had a three year warranty. The store was pretty empty when we bought it, and we had never used a snowblower before so we asked them to teach us how to use it, which they did. We came home and happily used it for two years according to the owners manual and what they taught us in the store. This year in mid-November, *before* any snow we tried to start it and it wouldn't start. We brought it in to the shop and they told us it would be 4-5 weeks. So much for their sales pitch of quick priority fixes if we bought it there. This is before any snow fell, so it seemed unusual to have such a long wait. But, since there were no heavy snows in the next 4-5 weeks I calmed down again. Then, when we picked up the snow blower they charged us $56.96. I said, I thought you told us it was under warranty? They replied that something in the carburetor was plugged and it was our fault so it wasn't covered by warranty. They said, you were supposed to run your engine dry at the end of last season. I said that we did. They said, when it looks like it has run out of gas you have to open the choke and keep priming it to get every last drop of gas out. I said that we had read the manual and it didn't state that, it just states to run your engine dry which we did. They said, well, you really shouldn't use gas with ethanol. I said the manual states that up to 10% ethanol is okay. They said that they tested many of the local gasses that claim to be 10% and they are actually 12 or 13%. I said that is not my fault. If Shell claims their gas is 10% ethanol, then I believe them. I also said that the manual says not to use "too high" of an octane, whatever that means, and that is why we had avoided the higher octane ethanol-free gas. The manual explicitly states 10% is okay, but not to use too high octane. He replied I could drive out to the Middleton Coop to buy low octane ethanol free gas. He also said that if we use gas with ethanol, we need to use fuel stabilizer. Again, this wasn't in the manual. I am complaining both about Middleton Power Center and about Ariens. If there is some insider knowledge that a) one really should not use gas with any ethanol, and b) one should prime and choke to get every last drop of gas out at the end of the season, then this should be in the manual. If I am a good customer who does everything according to the manual and the snowblower breaks within the first three years, then I shouldn't have to pay for that. read more

I just had my Honda mower serviced here, after it quit and my neighbor tried to "fix" it...he didn't. I took it to MPC and they promised a 3 day turnaround, which it was. They fixed it, didn't do anything I didn't need, and the charge was extremely reasonable (about half of what I expected..) . I will be back! (BTW...the map here and address are wrong....it's on Parmenter St..not the beltline....Just down the road from Culvers.) read more

Bought a "new" Toro Titan a couple weeks ago from Duane and Middleton Power Center. Turns out the "new" mower has been stored for an extended period of time with gas in it. Got it home and it wouldn't run. Carb was corroded, fuel lines full of gunk, and since the problem wasn't a manufacture's defect, Duane wouldn't cover any of the costs; not even parts. I guess since we were out of town buyers (140mile round trip), MPC doesn't care much. Brand new carb, fuel filters and lines, and fresh gas from my local, trusted shop, and the mower runs like a champ. Some businesses do what's "right" and some do what they can get away with. Middleton Power Center and Duane, it's President, obviously are the latter. read more
