It's been a minute since we've been back here and what a misstep on our part! Their food is extremely fresh and so good! The dining area still looks really nice and stylish. We ordered their mixed appetizer platter to start. (Hummus, baba ganoush, falafel and grape leaves) EVERY single thing item on that platter was very clearly fresh and so, so flavorful. Especially their falafel! I've had my fair share of falafel in my life and honestly, probably the best I've had, hands down. Not dry, crispy and delectable. Baba ganoush was smokey and garlicky...so yummy! Grape leaves tasted amazing. Hummus...packed with flavor. I had completely forgotten about their fried chicken! A few companions and I had a mixed experience here. As we were on a tight schedule, our goal was a quick sit-down or "fast casual" lunch -- usually one of the key advantages of Middle Eastern or Mediterrenean food (in addition to healthiness and taste, of of course). Well, woe was us, because we were left hanging waiting for our food for more than 20 minutes, despite no one having ordered anything particularly complicated. Then our server awkwardly brought out the food as it was finished instead of simultaneously, leading one of my starving companions to sheepishly ask if he could start eating! The food itself was decent to rather good. My grape leaves were on point, and we all praised the shawarma sauce, though apparently sans sauce, certain elements were unseasoned. Would I come back? their shawarma has improved. although it is a middle eastern dish but it has this Indian spice added to it . it tasted like curry chicken sandwich which was good. the service is GREAT! they help you to choose and answer questions. they always pick up the phone and ready to make orders through phones. the girl in the cashier was very helpful and offered me garlic sauce along with my meal. the new remodeled décor is so pretty and nice ! dining in looked so fun and relaxing to me. I always get the half chicken or the shish tawook rice combo and my god is the food so fresh!!! The wait is about 20 minutes but it's worth it 100%. I cant think of a place around here with this much soul and freshness in the food. We are lucky to have this spot near us. I have been a regular customer of this establishment since quite few months till today. I went to this place on 12/28 around 4pm with my family. The food was great however my father wanted his sandwich to be cut in two and when asked to do the chef was absolutely harsh, rude and his behavior was really obnoxious. The lady at the counter was quite apologetic for his behavior which was really sweet as it was not her fault. I would definitely tell the owner of this establishment that kindly make sure that he talks to his chef regarding his dreadful behavior. My husband had the Arabic chicken shawarma. The meat was tender. My rice was flavorful. We shared an order of falafel (was not very warm) and fatoosh. We liked everything. This place is struggling but it really has good food! It is mostly a takeout place. The large menu is not currently available. The black and gold printed menu is the current one. Eating late can really put a damper on your ability to find good food, but fortunately for me MEA stays open until midnight on Wednesdays. I had the kafta and a chicken dish (can't recall the name) as well, and it was a knockout. I haven't had good Middle Eastern food in a while, but this really hit the spot. The rice was on point as well, very fluffy and savory. All the items were salted just right. I especially liked the kafta. Last week, at a different halal restaurant elsewhere in Kzoo, I had a lackluster shawarma. What a refreshing turn of events to rebound from that at MEA. Staff was attentive as well. The cashier recommended dishes, inquired after feedback once I had gotten midway through the meal, and further engaged me in polite conversation. Just a good experience through and through. I love middle eastern food and I have eaten at countless different restaurants. Every place always has its strengths and weaknesses. The lentil soup was very good and perfectly salted. The chicken shawarma sandwich was decent. Inside was chicken, pickle, garlic sauce, and lettuce. I'm not a fan of lettuce in shawarma sandwiches but you can ask for it without. The chicken was seasoned very well but the garlic sauce was very disappointing. I ordered an extra side of garlic sauce per usual and was sad when I tasted it. The sauce was not like usual garlic sauces. It was more yogurty in texture and lacked much needed salt and the garlic flavor wasn't very strong. read more

Unexpected addition to our regular local delivery and restaurant takeout favorites! I picked up an order and upon delivery I (they recommended call for delivery next time but ok with pickup ) found the small restaurant clean, well organized, and the staff busy, engaging and friendly. Busy kitchen and good people. At home we started dinner with the baba ganoush and really liked it's Nice deep smoky flavor. Good consistency and get enough for left over veggie dip or late night fridge raid. Pressed chicken Shwarma in Saj bread is the bomb. Add cheese. It's worth the extra $1, and all three in our house loved the sandwich. We fought over the last bite. Chicken Shwarma plate was a little dry, but good flavor and nice size portions. The aesthetic of the restaurant now since the update is way better than the actual food is. The food is bad and a poor representation of Arabic food. The service is terrible and there's always people smoking outside which is a determent from wanting to actually eat there. Furthermore I've been served cold chicken and food many times. Middle eastern food makes me happy. This place is no exception. This is the perfect college fast food joint. The fried kibbee was my favorite thing by far, but some of the most flavorful rice and shawarma I've had in a long time. My husband got the fried chicken, the pieces were quite small and there was no white meat (which is all he typically eats, so oops there!) but it was really well seasoned and cooked and it wasn't heavy and oily like fast food chicken. The only real complaint is the shish kabob, it was pretty overcooked rendering it very dry and hard to eat. It was still wonderfully seasoned again, so it didn't hurt the star rating too badly, especially since it was only a side order. The kafta, also slightly dry, was still amazingly tasty, the garlic sauce pretty much negated any issue I could potentially have there. Btw, I'm not sure why, but I adore the name of this place, probably since I have such a middle eastern appetite of my own. Changed this to a 5 because they went above and beyond to let my husband know he accidentally lost his wallet. read more

Saw this place on Yelp and so excited to try it! And boy we were not disappointed! Loved their special: Fried Fish with rice (I think it was a Pompano Fish). Their shawarma plate was also delicious! The star, in my opinion, was the Kibee! Absolutely delightful, full of savory flavor and great crunch on the outside. We also ordered grape leaves filled with rice and minced lamb, which was also tasty! Definitely a small hole in the wall place that we love to support. Will come back and try out other items on the menu! Tips: try to order ahead by phone and pick up. We came here for a carry out during non-rush hour without issue.
