I've been to this shop twice at this point - once was to get my brakes fixed years ago and more recently I was referred back here for a quick assessment of my old Ford Escape. They picked up the phone first try, were extremely kind in letting me come same day as well as coordinate a tow truck to drop off my dead car without any difficulty. It was almost too easy. The man at the front desk is kind and friendly, making casual conversation and giving me solid direction. I appreciated the mechanics determination in finding the correct part for my car. They were very adamant on ensuring that I felt like I wasn't being ripped off, which was reassuring. After my dad checking out the situation and him approving I felt even better. We couldn't get my car fixed due to it being a dinosaur, but they helped with next steps best they could. When I got my brakes fixed it was very much worth the value. I continue to be impressed! They DO NOT follow CDC guidelines at all. No Mask at all. No hand washing! I was called at 1230 PM to let me know my brakes were finished and that they closed at 6PM. I showed up about 315 but was told they weren't ready to give me my vehicle back. I was given 3 different prices for brakes. They did not use the coupon they advertised. My car was returned filthy. I had an appointment for safety and emissions testing, took the afternoon off for it. Arrived early and someone else's car was taken first. It took over an hour for them then I was told after they were an hour late for my appointment could I stay another hour or longer to get testing done but I didn't have time at that point to wait longer. I dropped it off a week later using the night drop. Needed some exhaust work done so I ok'd it. When going to pay I wanted to use one of their coupons that are on their envelopes on counter but she refused to let me saying I had to use it on my next visit. I was able to make an appointment online for the next day. When I went in my appointment did not go through. This did not matter as they got me in right away. It only took about an hour for the oil change. With the coupon I found online, they beat out the dealer and other companies. They were very professional and friendly. Exorbitant. I'm not saying they did a poor job as it is far from it. They did a job that can be expected from any other certified (dealer recommended) mechanic. I decided to go with them to support places I've used in the past since original quote was virtually similar to other exhaust shop. Price seemed to go up once vehicle was in their possession. If you decide to use them just expect "insignificant" $40 addition to a routine work. Additional note: they charge ~3.5% for credit card use. Factor that in when you have an expensive invoice already. This is the exorbitant part as I don't believe CC charges any where close to 3.5% anymore; it's probably closer to 1.5%. read more

Brought my car in to have my muffler checked out. They told me it would be close to $1,000 to fix my muffler. I told them I would shop around. The owner Darren started yelling at me that if I didn't like their prices I could take my damn car somewhere else and have them do shi**y work. I asked for my keys and they pulled my car out of their garage. As I walked towards my car, Darren followed and told me to never come back to their shop again. I had been there several times for other muffler repair needs but I will never go back. He was trying to rip me off and got upset because I didn't fall for it. My SUV was in need of an alignment. I called around, read reviews, and finally selected the Midas in Sunset Hills. The place is very no frills, but they did a good job and everything is now working as expected. The price was very competitive to others in the area and the service friendly and efficient. I would have given five stars, but a small charge was added last minute that surprised me. It wasn't a big deal or large charge but I would have preferred to know beforehand. They called it a shop fee. My thought is, if the cost of the service requires shop fees than re-price the service. Anyway not a big deal but I thought I would mention it. read more

The ppl at this Midas location are very friendly and helpful! They are also fairly timely in comparison to places like Dobbs and Firestone (for oil changes or tire rotations), in my experience. However, beware, the bathroom isn't the best. Thankfully the toiliet was clean. There were papertowels overflowing from the trash can and the sink didn't want to drain well... but those aren't why I went there. Yay, Midas thanks for being available during my lunch hour! ***UPDATE*** I'm changing it from 4stars to 2stars! They always provide a courtesy check for customers and it said they checked my oil. Love everyone at this location. I had to get my junker of a car to pass inspection and it was not going to be cheap. I came in desperate for help and they did everything they could to get my car fixed up enough to pass as cheap as possible. They even gave me a 40$ coupon to use to help bring the total cost down. The next day I noticed a scraping noise in the front end and I brought it back in and they fixed it for no charge. My car no longer sounds like it's going to blow up so that's a plus! It may not be the cheapest as others have said but they fixed it fast as hell with excellent customer service. So thankful for the Midas guys! read more

I've been going to this Midas for about 6 years now. They always do a good job and are always willing to do a little extra if they notice something (fill up the air in my tires while I'm there for an oil change, replace a windshield wiper for no extra charge). They never try and price gouge you on anything and the staff is pretty friendly too. Brian always remembers me even though I only come in a few time a year! Plus there are stores close by if you wanna do a little shopping while your car is being worked on which is a great perk :) read more

Wish I could give less than one star. Failed to call to let me know what the actual problem was and charged me for work I didn't necessarily need. To add they covered the interior door handle and armrest with automotive dirt and apparently the seat as well. They tried to clean the seat but only made it worse and also soaked it, so when I drove home realized it was wet. Terrible customer service, called to complain and all they offered was for me to bring it back and they would try to clean it. Didn't mention anything about the service they did that didn't fix my original issue. Worst experience and very disappointed in Midas as a whole. read more

Took my car in for Missouri inspection. After determining it had failed, PJ and his team spent more than an hour diagnosing it and then recommended I get the repairs done through the dealer, not him, as it would be more cost effective for me, and charged me nothing extra for the diagnostic time. I offered to pay for the time and PJ insisted on taking nothing. He informed me of the codes so that I could share that information with the dealer and save myself $ with diagnostics at the dealer. I paid $36 for the Missouri inspection. I have never done any business with this shop but will in the future. read more

The person that worked on my car is either retarded or is actually Hellen Keller. I needed a lower control arm replaced on my 1988 Honda Accord. I tried to do it myself but quickly realized that the bolt and bushing was seized in the subframe and wouldn't come out. It's a pretty simple fix for any shop. Just cut the bolt, replace the arm, and get a new bolt for it. However, which ever Ranken drop out they had working that day totally destroyed the subframe of the car. Instead of cutting the $3 bolt, they cut the $300 subframe and hobbled it back together with whatever they had laying around. Now, the subframe is starting to tear from all the movement a control arm sees while driving. But, the owner knew that I now live in KC while going to school so maybe he figured I'd never make it back or bother to ask about it. Thank god I took it to another for an oil change because they pointed it out. When I went back to ask the owner about it, he claimed that within the 6 months after getting it "repaired" that I could've possibly cut the subframe myself. Well, obviously someone is dead wrong and this shop can't even handle fixing an 88 Accord. The only person I would recommend to going here is someone that doesn't own a car. . read more

On July 30, 2021, 10 am, we took our car to Midas to have a headlight bulb replaced. Two hours later after much confusion in the shop and no bulb ordered, I informed P.J. Stroich (in charge) that I would not use their service. PJ pulled my car around and apologized. My husband and I discovered that the technician who began work on our car damaged the radiator cover, left the radiator cover pins and headlight bulb cover sitting under the hood, left the headlight ballast hanging, and did not put the HID bulb back that was removed. P.J. Stroich initially denied that the any work was done on our car and only admitted to the damage after seeing the pictures. He then informed us that the technician abruptly quit while working on our vehicle. However, we were not told that the car was not put back in the condition in which it was brought in that morning. He told us he was recently hired to improve the store's perception with customers and asked us to give him the opportunity. We said we would give him the opportunity. P.J. Stroich agreed to repair the vehicle with OEM parts since our car was damaged by the Midas technician located at the Sunset Hills facility. We expect to have the original radiator cover ordered from the dealer and replaced properly. To date, August 12, we have not heard back from him or anyone one at Midas. read more

They did not even deserve the one star, I should have called the police. I went in for a exhaust repair and for them to sign a Mo DMV emissions waiver form on some work that they did previously. The manager said he had never seen the form before, which I thought odd and went out to the shop to discuss with someone else. They both came back into the waiting room, where a mother and small child were waiting as well. The guy from out in the shop said that Missouri quite doing these waivers, I told him I had just downloaded it from the Mo DMV website. He then said that I had added up the parts wrong, which was also incorrect, and then he said they could not sign it because the guy that did it was not there. I was in disbelief and told them I could not understand why the store manager could not sign the document for work that his shop did, I still had the bill and the manager remembered the work. We did not curse nor raise our voices and this guy turned away in a huff and said "fucking idiots", in from of the mother and small child as well. The manager pushed the keys over and said get your car out of here. My son and I went out the door where the guy from the shop was staring us down as we walked to our cars, my son said what is your problem. They exchanged curses and the manager and mechanic ran out into the parking lot trying to stop my son from driving off and to fight him. We were both verbally abused and threatened with physical abuse. After reading some of these other reviews, this is a dangerous place to go. read more

Received a coupon for a free oil change in a "Welcome Packet" in the mail and decided to go since I needed an oil change as well as the emission and safety inspections and they advertised they perform both. After about two hours they call me and ramble off a list of things that needed to be fixed in order to pass safety inspection, one thing ... cabin air filter which a) is not needed for the inspection b) I did not ask them to touch (and now sounds like a jet taking off). I said NO to ALL and went to pick up my car. When I mentioned the sound they were rude and belligerent about it. I took my car straight to my mechanic to talk to them and today they have checked out my car ... yes, I needed some things done but by NO MEANS anywhere close to what they told me I needed ... money wise or parts-wise. Two of the things I was told over the phone that needed to be replaced does not even exist on my car!!! Theses people are FRAUDULENT! Do not go here!!! Disgraceful!!! In a last ditch effort to make me have them do the "repairs" he suggested I'd open a Midas Credit Card ... I had a great experience at this Midas location (Watson rd in St. Louis, MO). Walked in thinking I was going to need to replace my tire because it had a piece of metal in it. I left the car then went back for it within an hour and they told me there was no damage to the tire!! That they only made sure that all tires had the right amount of air pressure as a couple of them were over. Always get 2nd Estimate. Midas on Watson rd. wanted to charge me $350 for a $50 job. Safety inspection revealed a bad rear control arm bushing. Claimed bushing was not available and had to replace control arm. Went to KIA Part Department.com and found bush for $12 and new control arm for $82. Installation required removing 2 easily accessable bolts. So they were going to over charge me $200 to $300. Had earlier experience where they replace all 4 struts, when I wanted to replace only the 2 rear struts. This miss understanding cost me an extra $500. read more

Went in for an oil change and I asked if they could help me put my brake lights in, which I've taken to other shops and stores and never had to pay, associate said yes but did not make me aware it would cost until it was time to pay. I explained I wasn't made aware of the cost and the owner went off in front of other customers yelling over and over "we don't work for free" and "I can't believe you people." I'm assuming they don't break down costs often since he made these comments. I was so humiliated. The customer was disgusted by the treatment and even mentioned leaving. No one ever apologized and I was told Midas customer service would do nothing. I'm blown away at the level of customer service and lack of understanding. Hopefully this guy was just having a bad day and everyone doesn't get talked down on over a cost their employee failed to go over. I called back to discuss the matter over the phone instead of in front of customers and I was told "where is this going? I'm busy." I was looking to get an apology for not mentioning the fee and the experience I had with the owner but clearly this location doesn't value good customer service unless someone is paying for undisclosed fees without them mentioning it. This entire situation would of been avoided if they would have went over cost from the beginning. Unless you work for the company, customers have no way of knowing what costs. This place is a rip off. Several years ago I got talked into replacing my muffler here, and bought a "Gold Exhaust FlowMaster" muffler for about $210 installed, with a lifetime warranty. Fast forward a few years and the muffler is rusted out and needs replaced. So I stop by and check to see if the warranty covers a replacement, which it does! Great, right? Except that to do it, I'll have to replace the tailpipe, and intermediary pipe, and a few other parts that in total cost $165, plus the labor the install it, which was about another $100. Of course they didn't tell me any of this when they sold me the original muffler.....and I also later found out that they had originally installed the WRONG SIZE muffler! Sooo my "warranty" replacement muffler cost more than the original part, which was the wrong part to begin with. So I decided to just buy the extra parts online to save some money. They agreed to install the warrantied muffler using the parts I brought in, including a ball joint I needed replaced also, in exchange for a 20% markup on the labor. I thought this was a little exorbitant but I was tired of arguing and needed it done so I agreed. I tried to nail down exactly how much they were going to charge me for the labor, which was technically all I was paying for. The manager said it was DEFINITELY going to take at least 2.5 hours for the work, which was about $250. I decided to just wait instead of picking my car up later, and they started pretty much right away (they don't really have much business there). Lo and behold, FORTY-FIVE MINUTES LATER, my car is ready. I went up to the same manager and said, "Uhh, you told me it was going to take two and half hours?", and he said, with a big smile, "Yeah, our guys are just that good!" I was, of course, charged the 2.5 hour price. I would not recommend anyone take their vehicle to this Midas, and probably not any MIdas. Just find a local mechanic who's honest. read more

I had an issue with this Midas when i found that i was charged for services that were never actually completed. I had a bill just under $1000, and when I went to get a second opinion on my vehicle (Immediately after leaving here) I found that not only would my car not pass inspection, but it was incredibly dangerous to drive. While I was charged for an alignment and an inspection, this would have been impossible to complete as there was a good 4 inches of wheel play in my driver side tire, and in fact the hub had to be completely replaced (I found this out 5 minutes after leaving Midas) So the next day I return asking why I was charged when this could not have been done. I am a young woman in my early twenties, so it is already daunting to go into a mechanic shop alone, luckily I know enough about cars to speak intelligently about them. Well instead of the manager working with me or explaining things in a calm manner, he ends up approaching me threateningly and screaming in my face about how I do not respect my elders (Because i had asked him to lower his voice) and how a "teenager will not tell him how to talk" and I had better "Watch my tongue before I opened my mouth to him." Luckily there was another woman in their waiting room who was having her car worked on, and agreed to be a witness to this situation if I decided to take action from it (which I have.) Not only would I not recommend this shop to anyone, but I have actually told all of my friends, peers, colleagues and family to avoid this shop at all cost. read more
