Awful service ! I dropped my car off at 9am and it wasn't finished until 4pm. they gave me two different quotes and I ended up paying 1171$ for what was supposed to be an inspection with just a light bulb originally needing replacement. I was told there was a delay because the wrong parts were ordered for my 2015 civic and that brake drums now needed replacement. I was expecting to pay around $100 for a car that only goes 8 miles a day and has less than 100,000 miles on it. This place ripped me off and I watched as they had bad news for every single customer . One woman's Acura was left running for over 2 hours in the parking lot! I took my car into Midas for a wheel alignmen. First thing the guy behind the desk says when I asked for the wheel alignment was do you need shocks. I was told the couldn't do the wheel alignment because I need shocks,tire rods etc. I got a quote for $4300. My warranty company asked them to send a video of the damage and found the vide inconclusive. I got the car back after all the negotiations and took it to another repair shop was told all I needed was a wheel alignment and front tires. My quote for the work was $698? I can see a few hundred in pricing but $3600? Midss is just a name and they will make you pay for that alone. The hourly rate is the highest of all repair shops that got recommended by the warranty company and the parts were overprice. I had dropped my car off and they let me know the damages before proceeding to fix them and also kept me updated on the services. I had a major issue with my car and they fixed it in a day. I would 100% go back there again. They also gave me some complimentary services for my car since I was already in an awful position with the damages/the bill. On Friday, December 18, 2021, I had a scheduled appointment for my car's vehicle inspection at the Midas located at 8141 Ogontz Avenue, Philadelphia, PA 19150. In addition to having the inspection done, I requested that my breaks be checked. Once the car was checked in by Anthony Veneri, service writer, I opted to leave the car and returned home. Several hours later, I received a call from Mr. Veneri informing me that the car failed inspection siting the rear brakes and rotors needed to be changed in order to pass. In addition to the breaks and rotors, the service rep. also suggested that the wipers and brake fluid needed changing. Understandably, upselling is how service stations remain in business. The estimated cost for the work was a whopping $1000.00. Yes. A $1000.00 U.S. dollars for what amounted to a simple brake change! After expressing some concern, the dollar amount quickly changed from $1000.00 to approximately $700.00. Needless to say, I did not pay either amount and retrieved the car, paying for the emission portion of the inspection only. From there, my father and I went to a nearby AutoZone and purchased high quality breaks and rotors for under $170.00. The car was then taken to an independent mechanic who inspected the brakes and rotors and found that nothing was wrong with them (refer to the attached photographs). On Monday, December 21, 2021, I returned to the Midas shop where the car was initially inspected and, again, spoke with Mr. Veneri. In my possession were the original brakes and rotors. I presented them to Mr. Veneri and expressed my concerns. Mr. Veneri conducted a visual inspection of the brakes and rotors, and attempted to bring to my attention a "line" that the mechanic may have used as the basis for the inspection fail (refer to the attached photographs). Again, I expressed my concerns and dismay as to why, without professional cause, the car failed inspection. Given the evidence provided to Mr. Veneri, to his credit, he did not attempt to justify the inspecting mechanic's actions, and subsequently "passed" the car. In conclusion, the purpose for this letter is to bring to the public's attention of what I would describe as this location's (Midas) deceptive practices. For its many social issues, our great nation is second to none. When I travel abroad, no matter where I go, I am immediately recognized as a free and proud American by the locals. But if I am to be totally honest, what sticks out the most about America, is the currency. And that fact is one that I truly cherish because, no matter where I go, the American dollar is accepted. That being said, my money is accepted everywhere in this great nation, therefore, Midas has lost me as an honest, blue collar, hardworking customer. I called on November 1st around 4pm and spoke with a guy named Carlos to schedule an appointment for an inspection the next day at 7:30am. When I arrived at 7:30am on Saturday morning and spoke with someone named Jose, he claimed there wasn't an appointment for me but still serviced my car anyways. Thank you Jose. The customer service wasn't my issue. The mechanic came in after my inspection and told me I needed the rear brake pads and rotors replaced and a new tire in order to pass inspection. So why did my total come to $1,351.58? I decided to go to a dealership and it was cheaper to get my car serviced there! Imagine my surprise when the dealerships' price for the exact same service was $400 less than Midas' price. The service was unprofessional and they tried to charge me for work that was already paid for in full. The work completed failed because of a hole in a line that was not changed or repaired during initial service. When I returned to ask why the air conditioner stopped working, I was advised it would be an additional $500. Once I spoke with corporate, they advised me to return to repair the issue at no cost. They repaired the issue alright by leaving a bolt loose and putting fluid in the car so the air can work for 48 hours until it leaked out. It is very disappointing when you trust a company to complete a service and they make the issue worse than what it was. It is disheartening that these large companies can get away with overcharging you for work that is not needed or completing the bare minimum of work when they are requesting full price for the service. I come in trusting that you are communicating what is needed and completing the service correctly so I do not have to return months later for the same exact problem. Beware of this location. I am not sure about other locations but make sure you think twice before visiting this one. I wish I had read the reviews before visiting this location. It will not allow me to do 0 stars. read more

I have been here for service before, and I haven't had any issues. It's in my neighborhood, and they do right by my car and wallet. And if I have to wait, then I don't mind. Today was not that kind of day. I got there at 12:30PM for an oil change. They said that it would be a wait "about 2 hours". Okay. I decide to wait, Bad idea! Turns out that I also needed an inspection, but I still don't know why that had to take so long. The people who came in before me got service and left. The people who came in AFTER me got service and left. At 5:30 PM, I was the last person in the waiting area. It took them that long to ask me "which vehicle is yours?" This place lies to the customers and are not professional. Let's start here, twice I brought my truck here and got deep scratches on the same door same spot. When I talk to the manager (Sean) he told me I don't think that came from us.. Second and issue is the "fix" things that don't need repair and them charge you. For example I took my truck to them because my engine light came on, I already knew the my cylinder #6 had a missfire code# P0306 they called me later that day and said they couldn't fine anything and the only think they saw was my throttle body flap was stuck open and had carbon buildup. I ask it's it's running better now he said yes. I picked it drove it for about 10 minutes and the engine light came right back on and sound horrible than it ever did before I took it right back to them!!! Next day I talk to Sean again he told me it was my pcm or ECM I ask are you sure he said yes, he said that "it was not in there scope of work and I should take it to the dealership. This place is absolutely the worst place to take your car. My nephew took his car here because something kept draining his battery. Midas said he needed a battery and a starter at the whopping price of $1350. I have been around a bit and I know that a battery and a starter does not cost $1350 on a 2017 Chevy Malibu. Well, of course we took the car to a different location only to find out that the battery needed to be cleaned because the cables were not touching the battery bolts, and it only costed him $50. I am utterly disgusted at this place and would never recommend that anyone take their car here as they are dishonest and out to rob hard working people. This place is the first auto repair establishment I've ever been to where I feel like my needs are actually addressed and I'm not being swindled. In 2019 my breaks were acting up, and I took a chance on this Midas because of its proximity. I wish I could remember the employee's name, but she talked me through everything wrong in a way that I could understand but without being condescending, which as someone who does not understand cars, I very much appreciated. During that time, I also talked to Sean, and the topic of my broken AC and my complicated history of being able to get it fixed came up. He looked it up for me and said whenever I'm ready it could be fixed there with no problems. From 2017 to 2018 I went to four different auto repair establishments for my AC and game out with huge bills for other repairs and a sudden "actually we don't have the parts to fix your AC, sorry"s. This year I took my car to this Midas, and it was fixed within one business day. I cannot sing their praises enough and will definitely be a long term customer. read more

After charging me for incompetent service that he didn't tell me about ahead of time, he was pompous enough to wrongfully accuse me saying things that I hadn't. I was using this midas for mostly oil changes, and the occasional repair for about two years until they stopped changing my oil. I was basically in between cars so the car i was driving was serving primarily as transportation until I could afford a new one. It had a lot of issues and I no longer desired to continue funneling money into it. I informed the attendant about that fact and told them that I just wanted an oil change and would be doing no repairs. I waited for about an hour when they called me back to not only inform me about the issues with the car that I was already aware of, but to tell me that they couldn't change the oil because of a repair I needed that could be done for the convenient price of $400... No thank you!!! I took my car to the most reliable mechanic I know (check other review), which I should've done in the first place, and he changed the oil with no mention of a required repair. I have used this Midas for almost a year. My first visit was to replace my catalytic converter. I shopped around. They were the cheapest. They finished the work quickly. The staff was very nice and knowledgeable. I recently visited the shop for my oil change and a new belt. Fast. Done in an hour (and on a Saturday!). The mechanic showed me how to check and change the oil. He didn't have to do that. That was nice. Plus, they even called me to remind me about my state inspection due-date. I almost forgot about it. I found an online coupon for a $24.95 oil change so since this shop is within walking distance of my house (very convenient) I decided to give it a try. I dropped my car off in the morning and came back 2 hours later to get it. Upon my return I was informed that there was an issue. Apparently my car takes a special synthetic oil which was a different price than oil I chose that goes with the coupon. Instead of $25 it would be $60. No thanks! I informed the mechanic that I had never paid $60 for an oil change before, so I will go somewhere else. At this point I was notified that the oil had already been drained from my car. My options were to sign a liability release and get the oil that didn't belong in my car and would probably ruin it or to pay $60 for the oil I needed. I told him that was ridiculous and I should've been notified before the oil was drained that the price would be different than what I had agreed on. I called a shop two blocks away and was told the same oil would be $35 there. I then spoke to the mechanic again. He said I could have it towed there but that was my only option. At this point I was very frustrated and informed him I wasn't paying to have my car towed because he drained my oil without checking the cap first as he should have. I told him he needed to give me the oil at the price I agreed to pay since it was his mistake in draining it before calling me. He refused and gave me a different coupon which brought my price to $45. I expect a mechanic to know enough about a car to realize this beforehand or at least to check if they don't know. I've been waiting for over four hours for a simple battery terminal repair.

There was a screw in my tire of my car and when here to get a new tire. Arrived at 9:30 in the morning did not get out till 3:45. After waiting two hours I was told that they did not have the tire and that they would need to go to the warehouse in Lansdale and get the tire delivered two hours later the tire arrived they put it on and then I was done. I told them they should have better procedures and when the customer comes in the door they look at the tire size and then they asses whether they have it and give the customer a chance to decide to wait or leave. Management was unapologetically apologetic. They apologized over and over again but they didn't offer any additional perks. I was really irritated with the guy on the front desk, who I told him my tire size, claimed that he told me that it would be a one and a half hour to two hour wait before they even looked at my car, but this was not true he did not tell me that. *I have been to this Midas before, and it has been OK. This time was a disaster. I came in for a regular servicing, and my tire light was on.The tires looked and felt fine. Temperature changes often trigger that light. .I am 74 and not too sophisticated about my car. They sold me a couple of services I am not sure I needed, to the tune of over $400.00. They rotated and balanced my tires. When I left, the tire light was still on. I went back in to complain. I was told to drive it 40 miles an hour for a mile and it would go off. It didn't. Next day, one front tire was nearly flat and another was visibly low. They would not promise to take me right away if I came in. Dell, the manager I spoke to was not in any way helpful. Told me to come in tomorrow-- when a 10 inch snow is predicted, leaving me stranded. Had to call AAA. Unconcerned and snotty. read more

Where to begin...First, I just moved here from NY and registered my car in PA, part of which requires a PA state inspection. In February (i.e. less than 2 months ago) the car passed inspection in NY with flying colors, with a suggestion to get 2 new tires. Since I found coupons on Midas's website for a $50 state inspection AND emissions test, and some cash off new tires, I decided to chance it, knowing that most chains always find "something" erroneously wrong. I foolishly thought since the car just passed an inspection, and I was already greasing their palms, that it would be OK. After going over their proposed work to be done and being told that it wouldn't pass without new brakes and rotors (which had no problem of course) at $450, I told them I'd pass, knowing I'd have to pay the $50 fee, pass or fail. Other than that, the list included the tires and the inspection. I told them I'd take it elsewhere for an inspection (that would pass without being extorted, and no I didn't say that), and they proceeded with putting on the tires. With the coupons for the tires and inspection, the total should have come to something less than $200, so I was surprised when I was told it was ~$350; and asked to see the receipt. Not only had they tacked on an $80 alignment (not on the list before, ever mentioned, or required), the "math" of the difference of what the inspection and emissions test, and a coupon for them being $50 together, clearly didn't add up. After reminding them that the alignment was never on the list, discussed, let alone mentioned (and being lied to otherwise), I imagined how discussing how a $50 inspection/emissions test adding up to $70 would go. So I ended up taking my car to Don's Auto Repair based on its reviews on Yelp. Sure enough, they found nothing wrong, noticed that someone else had taken the previous inspection tag off, but it wasn't replaced, and thus asked me if it had failed and why. I showed them Midas's receipt and "reason", and they laughed, saying there was absolutely nothing wrong with the brakes and rotors. Do not ever go to Midas (on Ogontz at least).
