Terrible service midas brooks landing damaged my vehicle and refuse to pay to fix it worst shop in town 0 stars

This place is the worst after the new owners took over. They mark up parts over Lorco's set prices . I saw a rear shock quote . My cost $160, they charged a lady $677. And I have been told their techs are to find as much work as possible on any car that enters the shop. They wanted $4900 for a minor brake job and 2 shocks . Stay away at any cost . I have been in the industry 25 years and this I have never seen business practices so bad . Stay away !! read more

Terrible service at Midas on Hammond Bay Rd Nanaimo. When I picked up my vehicle after a brake check and tires replaced. I noticed 1) large breaks in the plastic air dam in front of the engine compartment above the radiator, 2) large dent in one of the hub caps and 3) tire valve extensions for the inner dualies had not been anchored. The Manager refused to accept any responsibility for the damaged air dam and dented hub cap. Telling me he would have to review the shops video. I asked him to call me once he had the video available. He never called me and I now know there never was any video of what goes on in the shop bays. I know for sure that the damage was caused by them as the air dam showed clean fresh breaks and the hub cap I had washed the very day before. I know they broke the air dam when they removed the air cleaner in spite of me telling them not to replace the air cleaner when they called me during the day while they were working on the vehicle.I will never take a vehicle to Any Midas shop on Vancouver Island in the future. read more

Midas (Departure Bay Location Only): I only went to this location because of the close proximity to my house. While the front end staff are friendly and accommodating. I will never go here again. After spending lots of $$$$ and giving them multiple chances; here is what has been consistent: -The Quality Control and Checklists of their work is well below par with each visit, I found parts paid for but not installed. -Each visit resulted in missing OEM parts, or parts not completely installed or parts even coming off my vehicle. -The owner is an absolute condescending, arrogant, person. -They overpromise and never deliver, I'm still waiting for a return/follow up call after I have reached out to them 4 times. The Hammond Bay Location; however, does deliver. read more

I was on a road trip from California to Vancouver and on the ferry to Vancouver Island a man noticed that there was a piece of plastic hanging down from the front end of my car underneath. It is a low sedan and it was scraping the ground. I did not know what to do , I could not refasten it or tear it off. I called a Lexus repair shop and they were busy for days. I called Midas and ask them if they could look under and fix it and they squeezed me in in about an hour from when I called. They fixed it immediately and did not charge me. There is a woman that's running the shop there and she seems very efficient. It really was a good feeling to be taken care of so soon and not charged. I haven't had the best experiences with Midas back inCalifornia. read more

I was verbally quoted $159.99 for a tire alignment but was charged an undisclosed $19.20 "shop supply" fee plus tax at checkout. I wasn't shown the invoice before payment, and the fee was only revealed afterward. Despite bringing it up immediately and following up several times, the shop refused to refund it, claiming the fee is automatically charged to all customers -- regardless of the service. They even initially agreed to a refund and then went back on their word. This is an unethical, misleading upcharge for a service that doesn't use shop supplies. Customers deserve transparency -- not hidden fees. read more

If I could give zero stars I would. 8am oil change and brake evaluation appointment, didnt recieve word until 1pm that the vehicle was ready. EXTREMELY pushy to have brake pads and rotors replaced immediately, I said no three times, the first came back with a counter offer from 3200 to 2000 dollars FOR BRAKE PADS AND ROTORS. Then suggested he could grind them down and charge 600 for a sanding.. Suggested I needed spark plugs redone which was quoted at 1200 dollars. In this report I received from them the estimate came to 10,000 dollars for all the repairs they suggested. I had my boyfriend pay my bill because I had to go to work and he received the key, I walked there with the key to get my vehicle and the battery was dead. Got a jump, and it was so dead I had to sit and let it charge for a while, zero battery issues prior. Once the vehicle was started I saw that I had 0km left for my fuel consumption. I brought it in on low, but with 20km left until empty. They did not give me the courtesy to tell me they had ran it dry. will be making further reports. read more

I ran into a friend of mine that I hadn't seen for years at Midas. She was a service writer there at the time. She worked there for over three months. In those three months, Midas did quite an extensive amount of work to her vehicle. She was under the assumption that she would be getting the employee discount and a cost on the labour because all the work was only being done on their slow days. Being the service writer she got to see the cost of all the parts that was used on her vehicle. She assumed that the bill should be somewhere around $3200. It was just over $6000 on the mechanics Lien to have it released. Her Jeep was put on a 20 day mechanics lien while she was still working there. The stress of the price almost doubling and then being transferred to a different shop just after she received the lien pushed her stress to a point where she had one choice but to quit her job altogether. The bill was paid in full the last day of the lien by a friend because she couldn't come with that kind money this close to Christmas. If this company shows that much compassion towards an employee that is a single mom, how much compassion could they show towards you! The vehicle today is worth around $16,000. It's pretty obvious that they tried to steal her vehicle for the price of the inflated parts and labor. Would you trust servicing your vehicle at this establishment? The address and name of the shop is: Midas 1850 Island Highway N., Nanaimo British Columbia. read more

We brought our vehicle to Midus in for a routine oil change but were informed that a complimentary inspection was required. Following the inspection, we received a call stating the car had failed several checks and were presented with an estimate of $1,300. I explained that I only wanted the most critical work completed, and was told the cost would be $540. However, after picking up the vehicle, we noticed that unnecessary work had been performed. I attempted to address this with the manager but received no resolution and was treated very rudely. read more

My first and last time at this business ... 1. On a Tuesday I went into their business to schedule my car to be serviced at 1:00 pm on the following Thursday. When I arrived at the appointed time they could not find me in their system even though 30 minutes earlier I got a text to confirm my appointment! 2. I re-booked for 8:00 am the next morning (Friday). I had a written list of tasks for them. But then the "upselling" started. The most egregious recommendation was "Spark Plugs R & R; Install NGK Spark Plus" at a cost of $1078.16. My 2017 3.5L V6 Camry had only 93,000 km on it under very favorable driving conditions (I winter in Arizona.) The OEM recommended interval is 120,000 miles (that's 190,000 km!) or 10 years. So the job was definitely not needed. Then I went to Grok AI and asked "How much should it cost in British Columbia for Spark Plug R & R and KGK spark plugs on a 6-cylinder 2017 Toyota Camry?" The answer came back with a range of CAD$550 to $700. So it appears that this Midas shop wanted to seriously overcharge me for work that is unnecessary. 3. The business showed no concern for my waiting time ... repeatedly underestimating the finishing time. I waited 7 hours in total. No doubt successful upselling to other customers slowed down the overall completion of scheduled work. 4. Their $170/hr base rate is very near the top of the range a Grok search gives for British Columbia. read more

the labor fee is too high, stretches 30 min work for 1 hour, that's how they get big bucks. I'll go EV

I took my three-year-old vehicle with 30,00km for squeaking breaks to this location. Midas tried to tell me I needed all new brake pads rotors, and to the tune of $2000 because supposedly my brakes were in need of replacing. When I questioned this diagnosis I was met with attitude and aggression. The dealership told me the brakes were still at 60% . I would say this location has changed hands in the last two years and you no longer get the kind of honesty and customer service that you used to get. I would not trust these people, as far as I could throw them. Good luck to you ! read more

The guys at Midas at 1850 Island Hwy were great. I needed my left headlight replaced and within 5 minutes Dustin put the bulb in for me. if i could do negative 10 for a review I would since this company was bought out they are horrible. I was a regular customer there for years and now I have gone through issue after issue with them. They are supposed to be doing third party warranty work on my vehicle. I went in for my oil change service and they found an issue with my rear trailing arms. They initiated doing the third party warranty work saying you don't need to go to the dealer we do warranty work with most companies, big mistake. They were going to call the warranty company (Secure Drive) and initiate the claim and call me when they heard back (This was a Saturday) they said I would know by Wednesday, 2 weeks went by so I went in to find out why I hadn't heard anything from them and as they said "someone dropped the ball" and didn't follow up and do it. They had to call again on Monday to find out if it was approved. Everything was submitted and approved by the warranty company they called me said it was all approved (nothing about any extra charges was mentioned) we booked the appointment. When I went in to drop my car again they said "someone dropped the ball" and ordered the wrong parts and when they pulled up my file there were no notes at all about this being warranty work that was already approved they thought I was paying for it myself. They said they would re-submitted the claim to the warranty company and would call me to re-book my appointment. I got the call to re-book but then the guy tried to tell me they need to charge me extra money for labour on top of everything because the warranty company only approved some of it? I advised him that last time they called everything was approved and there was no mention at all about extra charges? (But no notes in the file about it.) I called the warranty company myself as I was frustrated that i was paying for a warranty that was all of a sudden not covering everything, I have full drive train coverage and have NEVER had to pay any extra charges with my Warranty just my deductible. They advised me that everything Midas submitted to them was approved and were confused as to why I was being charged extra money. I called the district manager Cheryl after speaking to Secure Drive she looked at the file and I guess they were trying to charge more for labour than what they submitted to Secure drive she adjusted it and she let me know as soon the right parts arrived they would call. I was finally called and booked my appointment. I took my vehicle in today to finally get the work done and some guy there calls me while my car is apart and tries to tell me AGAIN i need to pay an extra $230.00 on top, the same as the other employee tried to do but now he was trying to say it was for the wheel alignment that is required when this kind of work has to be done. When I originally talked to the district manager she was going through the list of what Secure Drive approved and one of the things she said going through it was wheel alignment. Since when do you pay extra on warranty work when no additional things have been added to the job? I do have to pay my deductible and was fully aware of that going in. It has been a nightmare right from the start, bullshit after bullshit, it has been since August 31 trying to get this work done. There has been wrong parts ordered people forgetting to order the parts having no notes on the file stating this is warranty work it goes on and on & then having the nerve to try to charge me extra money on top for NO additional work just the warranty work. AVOID HAVING ANY DEALINGS WITH THIS COMPANY UNLESS YOU WANT TO DEAL WITH ISSUE AFTER ISSUE AND TRYING TO OVERCHARGE!!!! read more

Do not go there, did a quote, and then almost tripled the final bill, we asked to have our original parts given back to us, as they our property, and low and behold, they were tossed in the dumpster causing damage, so we could not prove they damaged our radiator, which wasn't something that was even included in what we wanted. They also took off all 4 tires for some inexplicable reason, didn't plug back in our headlights, and when we went on the hiway, the tires started to shake and shudder so bad that we had to pull over, $2800 dollars later and the new exhaust is rattling , and apparently no one at this "muffler " shop even knows how to weld. If you want a good job done and not afraid of dying on the hyway... stay the hell away from Midas Muffler. read more

I was relying on this Midas Store and the clerk "Andrew" my son's car. I live in North Vancouver and Midas is my way to go. My son called this store to set up an appointment for a Transmission oil change or how he called "Transmission Flush", they gave him 10:30 but after he changed his mind several time he ended up saying 11 am perhaps he got mixed this times, because when my son got there his first response was "You are late" and I will take care of your car until 5 PM and each hour will be $127 and that job might take long hours. This is when I got the call from my son and when I spoke to "Andrew", I told him that the job required was only 20 minutes and he was kind of punishing my son for, what he called, getting late. "Andrew" right away start making defensive excuses abut his schedule and "his customers" (I thought I was a customer too, at least this is what I felt). I did say well, I can post a nice review in Google maps for you based on the job done, something he misunderstood I was threatening him. A few minutes later I got a call from this number 250-753-2424 telling me that I was threatening them and he confirmed it. He just hanged up the phone and LITERALLY KICKED OUT MY SON OFF HIS STORE. I'm so glad they didn't touch my son's car. I'd rather give my money to somebody else. read more

I brought my car in on a Monday for the clutch they promised it back on Wednesday, I called them on Tuesday and they said that they looked at the cv axle but don't know what was wrong so they put it away for later, and that their mechanic that can do a clutch isn't in on Wednesday. Had to get it towed again to another shop. So I realized Midas is a brake and muffler/ lube shop not the place to go for bigger jobs . If you don't know about car parts they will charge you out the rear end , and they will take longer for bigger jobs driving up hourly costs. Don't go there unless you need an oil change. read more

Mike is a empathetic manager and his team is top notch. We had a recurring issue from a repair at a Midas in South Edmonton just before we drove to the island and brought it back to Midas at the Island Hwy location in Nanaimo. Mike and his team were able to diagnose and resolve it and even helped us on the bill to stand behind the Midas brand. It was the Edmonton team that didn't check their work but it was Marks team that was focused on Customer Satisfaction and earned our loyalty. We will tell as many people as we can about the Nanaimo location and will be back when we can. read more

Tyler at the front desk is not only rude to a woman that walks in alone he bumped me from a 10:00 a.m. booking that I booked 4 days earlier to 11:30 and took 2 men that just walked in and placed them first.. He completely ignored me when I tried to tell him I had a 10:00 am booking. To make it worse I had my car there the previous month and they told me nothing is wrong with it when in fact I found out something is seriously wrong with the balll joint. I could have lost a wheel. He expected me to go home and take a picture of the online booking that I booked and show it to him to prove I booked 10:00 a.m. He made no apology and he runined Mida's reputation by mistreating me. HAMMOND BAY LOCATION!! I would give them zero stars if possible because that would be equivalent to the amount of work that was done on the car after 2.5 hours. Scheduled appointment at 12:00, dropped car off at 11:45. Called shop at 2:15 and it was if our car was completely forgotten about and just left to sit out in the lot. Was given an arrogant excuse of "we had other priorities " which I guess is code for your business was not as important as others because we don't make as much off a simple oil change as we do off other work. Unprofessional. Will stick to the real mechanics with their own shops from now on as this huge franchise only cares about the $$ and not about customer service. What a waste of our time. I'm not a person that usually writes negative reviews, but this review is more than justified. Stay away from this place and take your business to a real mechanic. Seriously avoid this location and their ignorant staff. read more

No one likes to pay to get their car repaired. I'm no exception but I had to write and give this shop kudos for their honesty, good customer service and doing more than what was expected. Before coming to Midas, I went to my regular Dealership, Jim Patterson Hyundai in Nanaimo but was very disappointed. They said my repair (new rotar for the front and machining the rear rotars, new shoes, new pads and a brake fluid flush) would cost $900 at first and later $855. I called Midas and told them what I needed and asked for a quote. They came back with $654. When I took the car in the following morning, Midas checked all the breaks and other systems without charging and then came back and said the bill would only be $504. They said my rear rotars and shoes were in excellent condition, so there was no need to replace them. When I asked if they had done a break fluid flush, they said it wasn't necessary and showed me the test they had done to check it (it was in top condition). Since I was impressed with Midas' honesty and my wife took her car in the same day. Her experience was equally as good as mine. They replaced her rear rotars and said the front would need machining and gave us a reasonable quote. When she went to pick up her car, they had given her new rotars for the front as well for the same price. They have earned our respect and our business for our next repair. read more

I seldom write reviews on Yelp, except for extraordinary service. I needed a special order battery for my Jaguar. and called several places in Nanaimo. Their prices were outrageous and said it would take about 3 weeks to arrive. Called Midas and their price was very reasonable and they had it for me in 2 days!! Took my old battery back to them and while there they gladly filled my tires which had run low after 4 months of storage. This was outstanding customer service and Midas will have all my business going forward. Give them a try and you will be very satisfied. read more

Very disappointed with this location, I had booked my appointment a week in advance and dropped my work truck off before they opened the doors at 8am. I didn't hear back from them until almost lunchtime when I had to call them, they indicated that they had found the problem and it would be four hours shop time. I agreed to them keeping the truck overnight as they said they would get started on repairs and would have it finished the next morning. Four and a half hours into the next day I still hadn't headed back from the shop so I called them to ask when the work would be finished. I was told that they were not sure when it would be completed as they were very busy and that it would be started next?! I questioned him about being told that the job was started the previous day and that it would be finished the following morning..? Then I got a bunch of excuses as to why it wasn't even started, I had mentioned to him that I needed the truck for work and needed it this morning as planned. Was told that it would go into the shop this afternoon but wasn't sure if it was going to be finished today? I again mentioned that I need the truck as soon as possible and asked when I could pick it up and was told five o'clock and that there was nothing they could do. My rating for this location is a big zero for customer service, a big zero for communication and another big zero for accountability. read more
