I've only been here for state inspections, twice. Both visits no problems and the staff was great, particularly Joe, that guy is really funny. They conducted a very thorough evaluation on the vehicle and gave me an easy to to understand breakdown of their recommendations. Joe took the time to explain everything to me. One of the recommendations was a new serpentine belt which I knew I needed anyway. Everything else on the list was routine or preventative maintenance and none of it was unreasonable. I was never pressured into letting them do the additional work. Truth is I have a regular shop I use, they just don't do inspections which is why I brought it to Midas. To be honest, Midas is a bit too pricey for me even by RI standards, so I really can't consider them for any serious repair work. However, they are honest and they care about their work and their customers. I do recommend them. read more

Needed An alternator, he quoted me a price of 480. For the part, 112 for labor. Friend came in to deliver the part, I asked him the cost. 160.00. I understand they need to make money, but 200% Mark up, just rip off, mgr was extremely rude when we told him we would go elsewhere... read more

Miserable customer service. Performed work knowing that it would not complete the job without providing that information. Rude when THEY missed appointment time. Especially would not go there for a vehicle inspection. read more

Went there at 5:20 when their hours were posted open until 6. They were ready to go out the door, wouldn't even look at our car. We were stressed, out of towners and we were heading into a long weekend. They couldn't care less. read more

Great experience start to finish. Made an appt online the night before after hours and they called me first thing in the morning to confirm the appointment. Went to investigate a grinding noise coming from my brakes. Dropped it off and they called an hour later saying all the pads and rotors had to be replaced. I was definitely skeptical of this being the case and expressed that but ended up going forward with it anyways. It was done that day and the manager kept the old pads and rotors to show me how bad they were noting that he could sense my skepticism. It was surprising to read other reviews that were old and find this place hasn't changed as far as jacking up prices in years! I went in for an oil change with a coupon and got charged much higher. When I questioned it he took off $10 with no explanation why I was still paying higher then the coupon !? I do know you do pay extra for certain types of oil and took that into account but still paid about $25 more then the coupon printed price was. I also priced out getting new tires, yikes ! They were running about $400 higher for a set of Michelin tires then I ended up paying elsewhere. I will not return here; obviously their policy is to jack up prices to make more money. read more

I called to schedule an appointment for oil change and tire rotation for today at 2 pm last week. However, when I went in at about 1:45 pm for the above service, they told me they could not find my appointment in their system, which is very disappointing. It was the second time that this had happened to me at Midas. Last time when I came in for an oil change a couple of weeks ago, they just simply cancelled my appointment without my knowledge! Good coffee, free wireless, nice guys at the front desk; but get ready to pay ultra premium pricing. An uninformed customer who hasn't shopped around and is desperate is their best customer. I came in for a state inspection knowing that I needed at least a muffler. I was told the entire exhaust system had to be replaced and the quote was $1,550. The parts alone were quoted at $1,300. Fortunately I had priced exhaust parts online ahead of time (just in case this was the outcome) and I'm glad I did. I complained about the pricing and the service writer told me that they'd match a quote from competition; unfortunately my online pricing didn't qualify as competition. I left the shop, rumbled home in the "tank," and ordered all the parts online (using the Midas part #s as a handy guide) and got the parts a few days later for $525. The local independent garage wasn't thrilled that I walked in with my own exhaust system but installed it for $95 in labor vs the Midas labor quote of $153. Recommendation: Use a non-franchise repair shop if at all possible. read more

I came for oil change - they insisted that I needed my brakes changed - good thing I didn't listen to him , got two more mechanics who looked at them and told me they were fine. Made an appointment for oil change and took 1.5 hours to do. Front desk employee rushed through my bill and insisted I sign it without me understanding where the fees came from. Slow unfriendly service, and looking to take advantage of the customers. Will go back to doings oil changes myself. Not worth it. read more

This place is ridiculous. I went in for an oil change and was quoted a $15 charge to take off a skid plate to empty the oil. The only problem with this charge is when I asked to see what they had to remove it was two screws. They charge $15 to remove two screws on the skid plate. Outrageous customer service and even though they dropped the charge after I made my opinion known about the charge I am extremely dissatisfied. I will not be back and I recommend that no one else visits Midas. Ripoff. read more

I have been using Midas for a number of years. They are always friendly and I thought treated me right. This past April I brought my 2005 PT cruiser in for an inspection. Now the car may be old but has only 45,000 miles on it, has never been in any kind of accident. When they were done Jim asked me if I was hearing a noise from the front end when I hit a bump or was on rough roads. I said no but in fact I had. My car passed inspection needing only a tail light. Upon paying for the inspection Jim told me I needed front end work done on the car. To be exact: front struts, shock absorber's rear, control arms w/ball joint, sway bar and of course a wheel alignment. Total cost $2307.25. At that time I wasn't willing to do the work. In November I brought the car in for an oil change prior to winter. I was again reminded of the work needed on the front end. Now as they described the sound I knew that they knew what the problem was. I would have believed shocks, but the rest at 45,000 miles? I then decided to call in a favor from a friend who had a certified mechanic look at my car. The ONLY problem with my car was the bushings were worn out. I had them replaced. A $12 part and 15 minutes of labor. The car is running like a champ, no noise what so ever. Quite a difference I would say. The guys at Midas let you get comfortable with them and their service, reel you in and then when they think you are hooked, they attack. They knew exactly what was wrong with my car but instead of doing the right thing, they decided to abuse me. I'm done with them and will never recommend them to anyone else! read more

They were nice at the shop, but they seem a little skeezy (you know, they do the sit down next to you and say, "[Place name here], have you thought about replacing...[place name here again]?" They use your name twice each sentence. Any way, expect to be told to replace a lot more than you actually need (I am not saying that there aren't issues, but a good mechanic will let you know what really needs fixing). The biggest complaint, as mentioned by a previous review, is the overcharging on everything, from labor to parts. My family was driving home (1500 miles away) when we had problems. We were stuck to fix some of the things they mentioned. When we got home, the part that was replaced (an ignition coil) needed to be replaced again. Although I was able to get the Napa here to take back the defective part (not blaming this store for the defective part--it happens), realized that the mark-up on the part was 60% ($235 for a part that was $150). I would try to avoid going here or be very weary of what they tell you. Don't be swayed by the free coffee and water in the waiting area. read more

As the last reviewer put it, free soda, nice guys, but HIGH prices! And I needed an alternator replaced that had only been done 10 months previously at another garage which had since gone out of business. Midas guys told me they probably wouldn't be able to identify the manufacturer to do anything about the warranty. Then they quoted a whopping $650 to do the job - offering to deduct the amount I'd paid for the diagnostic services. I did appreciate that, but I did a little asking around and ended up at another garage that not only offered to check into the warranty, but was successful in getting the part replaced. I had to have a serpentine belt as well, so I paid for that - about $35 less than Midas had quoted on that part alone - and the labor...altogether it was almost $500 less that what I was originally quoted at Midas. Sorry guys. You're friendly and all, but being willing to put in a little effort on your customer's behalf makes all the difference. read more
