This place is untrustworthy and scammy. I went in to get my brakes checked and A/C recharged. They gave my a quote of $2400! They had a bunch of ridiculous recommendations that my car did not need. It was the day before my brothers funeral when my car wouldn't start. After trying to jump it we determined it might be the Starter. Well my daughter drove me there, and they said the engine was locked up .Oh my , I had just bought the car 4 months ago ! It's ruined! I wanted to formally apologize to your worker, Chris, at the Fairview Heights, IL store when I just now dared to telephone him to inquire about the cost for getting my brakes replaced. First time, two minutes ago, he said he needed to look up the price and will call me back, but never asked my phone number. Said he needed a pen and would go to a different phone...and we got disconnected. I called back, thinking, "Oops! My phone must have dropped the call." I called back, he answered (same guy) and I apologized for dropping the call and then asked if he could quote me the price, as I need my brakes and rotars replaced on my Ford Focus. He sighed, said someone else will have to get it, but he's "too tied up right now, so he doesn't have time to take your call." Well geez. No offer to take a message. No asking my name, number. Nothing. Just an attitude of, "Don't bother us!" I realized it wasn't a dropped call on MY side, but a hang up on HIS side. Is that your regular attitude? "Get the hell out of here! I don't have time to answer a question about a service! It's a wonder you have any business at all. Sorry to bother you guys. I went to Midas for the first time to get an oil change and tire rotation since I got a coupon for $20. They immediately pushed for the $40 synthetic oil change with tire rotation. I agreed. I started talking to the women in the (unpleasant) waiting area. They'd all come in for oil changes and had been there for hours because the mechanics had "found serious problems" with their cars. One woman had been there for 6 hours for a 3 year old car (finishing with a $1400 bill). It became apparent that Midas lures you in and then pushes for tons of other repairs. The mechanic had me follow him into the garage area (1 hour after I arrived) and showed me all of the "serious problems" my vehicle supposedly has. He said I must be leaking oil (which I've never seen on my driveway), my tires were "shot", etc. I said no thanks, just do my oil change and rotation. They gave me an estimate anyway for $1300 which didn't even include new tires. When I went to pay, there was confusion about whether they used the synthetic oil or not. I honestly never saw them CHANGE my oil or filters. Plus I said I didn't see them rotate my tires. The cashier said they couldn't rotate them because I hadn't followed their advice about needing new tires and it was dangerous. So I didn't even get half of the work I wanted done after being there for 2 hours. To sum up, don't go to Midas and throw away the coupons you get in the mail. read more

Okay, so Midas constantly boasts the best coupons. That's great and all, but after today, I think it's bait to hook you into paying for loads of random odds and ends for your car. Granted, I know almost nothing about cars, but some of these services I paid for were totally unknown to me. I've gone to Honda many times and even at my 100,000 mile maintenance check, they hadn't mentioned some of these things. Usually, I'm the type that gets my oil change for $20 and bolts before another suggestion can be made. After the severe flooding I subjected my car to this week, I figured it would be in the best interest of Lolita (my civic) to pay for the works. The mechanic who worked on my car was incredibly friendly (and told me about their military discount), but overall, I still feel as though not everything was as mandatory as he made it out to be. Next time, I'll probably check with my local Honda dealer first. read more

I hate this place. It's a whole rip off. They try to be nice but it's just a front for them to get over on you and charge lots of money. This Midas in Fairview Heights Illinois charged me in total over $1,900. Originally I went for brakes then they charged me for some other work that did not fix my problem it only made things worse. I set up an appointment a week ahead of time online and got an email stating that In would be contacted the following business day to confirm. By the day of my appointment I still hadn't heard anything so I called. They had no record of my appointment. I asked if they were busy or would I still be able to come in at 5:30 as I had budgeted for this. They said no problem, they can get me in at 5:00. I arrived at 4:50. I had a coupon for a $19.99 oil change and tire rotation. They convinced me to go with high mileage oil for $15 extra. The bill still came out to $45.44 because of shop fees. And the tire rotation? They just swapped front and back without crossing them. I asked about it and the shop manager that they don't cross them. I asked if that was exclusive to Midas because everywhere I have ever gone crosses them. He said said that nobody crosses them and that it's bad for the tires. He also left me with an estimate for $1584.04 for other repairs. And that 5:00 appointment? Even after I had called to make a new appointment after they lost my first one I still wasn't on the books when I arrived. They pulled my car in at 5:45 and finished it at 6:30. This was a lot of frustration and time at too high a cost for what was supposed to be a $20 oil change. Read the time print. Then change your oil at Jiffy Lube and have your regular mechanic handle your other maintenance and repairs. read more

I went into Midas yesterday to have a diagnostics test ran on my vehicle. Everyone there was amazing! Everyone was very friendly and not once did they try to "bait" me into getting work done..I knew I had issues with my car that was the whole reason for going there. They told me what was wrong and what needed to be fixed and the cost..which was not something I could afford to do that day after making arrangements to come in the next day to get the major problem fixed they had me up and running and out the door in a couple of hours! I just moved to the area and wasn't sure where to go and get work done that was reasonable and honest..Well I found it I would definitely recommend Midas to anyone who asks!! 5 stars all around!! read more

This is a bait and switch operation. I took my truck in for a muffler. They said it needed all kinds of other work also. They gave me an itemized estimate for the muffler and the other work. I told them I just wanted the muffler. When I got the bill the muffler was suddenly much more expensive than the estimate. They said that original estimate was only good if I had all the other work done also. I pointed out that this was illegal by Illinois state law but they stood by their unethical and illegal policy. I had to jump through hoops with the credit card company to have the charges reduced to the original estimate. read more
