When R and I visited Nashville in November, we stopped at Loveless Cafe for lunch. However,…read morebecause there were so many people ahead of us, we had to wait for our time slot. Thankfully, customers can browse through some stores, including Shimai, on the Loveless property while they're waiting. Shimai features art, crafts, pottery and other creations produced by local artisans. When I walked in, I had a sense of calmness come over me. It helped that this store was well lit and the sunshine flooded the place through the multi-paned windows. This little store seemed like a museum, with everything being so nice. I can't even begin to imagine how many total countless hours it took the many local artists to create everything that was in Shimai. The were pottery pieces, handblown glass art, paintings, jewelry, women's articles of clothing, and so many pieces of art that can be hanged on the wall. Just know that most of these art pieces come with a high price. But they're very beautiful!

So this painting had more sentimental meaning than anything else we had brought back with us. Upon first walking in to Belle Meade and being greeted by the lovely woman at the front- I knew that we were leaving our painting in good hands. We both inspected the painting as we unrolled it from the tube. I went over my concerns and fears of possible cracking because of the temperature changes it had endured during transit, and we discussed our preference as to how we would like it re-stretched. She seemed super knowledgeable and Belle Meade definitely gave me a feeling of being experienced when it comes to doing such work. Belle Meade did an AMAZING job! They re-stretched it perfectly! Exceeded our expectations in every which way. The painting now looks how it looked when we had it hanging in our home in Mexico. They have also gone above and beyond for us. As we were dealing with moving in to a new place- they held on to our painting until we were settled in. They also arranged for the delivery of the painting as our car is too small. Seriously can't say enough good things about the quality of work and quality people that work there. We plan on having another custom painting done by the same artist in Mexico of our other cat. We will 100% be taking it to Belle Meade for the re-stretching.

I was planning on moving closer to the store I was going into when they opened. I don't think there are any businesses opened before 8 in this shopping center. Your business opens at 10. Two of your employees pulled up next to my car. Only one directly on the right side of my car. She opened her car door and slammed into my mirror. Both employees were looking back displaying a face of disapproval while they walked into work. I'm going to assume it was due to my parking job. Which yes not all the way in my spot. The parking lot was EMPTY why park next to someone you deem is parked wrong? Park one spot over or in another row. ‍ I watched them walk into your establishment, so that is the type of people you have employed. All because I parked 6 rows from directly in front of your store around NO other cars. Completely unnecessary and rude. Knock on my window and I would have gladly moved if they needed these exact spots. I'm not a confrontational person. So why the negative review. Because I had time after school drop-off and I was trying to have a few minutes of time before running my errands.

I loved the oil paintings and dreamed of where in my house I could hang each piece. Then I looked at the prices! However, I don't think they are outrageous for well know regional artists' original pieces. Remember good art is an investment! Richland hosts great events such as open houses, showings, and meet the artists parties from time to time. Check out the web site for details. This was a fascinating way to spend a hot summer afternoon. Also makes me realize how little artistic talent I have! But makes you appreciate those who have it all the more.

Although most of the paintings here a very conventional (children playing on the beach, still lives, agricultural landscapes, European streets, luxurious portraits, etc.), I did see a few more innovative pieces too, including a drippy-looking abstract painting in bold primary colors, a very realistic portrait of two old-timers playing folk music in a community center, and some neat impressionist wilderness scenes by Gavin Brooks. Most of the artwork at Richland is large-scale and very pricey. But they weren't kiddiing when they called it "Fine Art" - all of the paintings here are vibrant and professional-looking, clearly created by highly trained artists. The staff is friendly and knowledgeable, and don't seem to mind if you wander in without necessarily intending to make a purchase.
