If you're any kind of aircraft or history enthusiast, you'll love this place. Tons of aircraft from different eras of the industry, and tour guides who are experts (my guide literally flew on and repaired some of the planes!). Don't be put off if you've seen pics of some of the beat up planes on the tarmac--there's a hangar full of pristine models including the work-in-progress Black Widow fighter. Couple of caveats: the hangar is hot in summer and cold in winter, dress and hydrate appropriately. Also, planes are stacked like sardines in the hangar--you'll be ducking and dodging to avoid banging your head on an aileron. Mobility-challenged folks may want to proceed with caution. Younger kids may get bored but I was perfectly happy to let the guide tell me stories for 2 hours and j loved every minute. So the museum itself is pretty decent, it has a good variety of fairly rare aircraft. Very nice examples in the hangar, outside on the ramp is a sad situation. Lots of old aircraft rotting outdoors craving some TLC. I got the impression the owner is a bit of a tyrant. Our tour guide wanted to show us the workshop where they restore the planes, he peaked in and asked the boss and was met with a loud furious "NO" we could all hear. Very odd. My biggest red flag is when I caught our tour guide in a sort of passive aggressive lie at the end of the tour. Perhaps an inadvertent one, but he clearly made it up and it made me reflect on what was true or not from the rest of the tour. They have a rotted out F-86 Sabre on the ramp, decaying in the elements. I told him I had spoken to the pilot of one and watched him take off before me on his way to Oshkosh. The old man looked at me strange, turned to another guest and began saying "there are only two of these left and none fly." Odd and passive aggressive. There are at least 20 airworthy examples and many more survivors in the US alone! Really rubbed me the wrong way as I had seen it with my own eyes just 2 years ago and he felt the need to clarify (really UN-clarify) nonsense to a guest who had overheard. At $10 I can't tell you not to go. It's affordable and worth that money, just maybe tune out regarding the "information" they provide. read more

The Mid-Atlantic Air Museum is located on the grounds of the Reading Regional Airport. It's not difficult to find, but you do have to drive on some winding roads around the airport. Parking lot is small but adequately sized and can deceive you into thinking not many are taking the tour that day. The museum entrance is located in the smaller building on the right-hand side. You enter into the gift shop and the price of admission to the museum was $8, which isn't bad. The tour is fully guided due to the museum being located on the grounds of an airport. The tour starts in a small room with various models and plaques identifying museum donors. My group to start the tour was small with only two other people, so it was almost a personalized tour, until later when we were merged into a larger group. The guide then takes you to the ramp to view the museums outdoor pieces. Many of these planes and helicopters were donations and several are in very rough shape. Several planes were being stored on the ramp that suffered mechanical issues during the museums WWII weekend. The hangar is the best part of the tour but with one caveat. It's very crowded at the writing of this review, and for bigger people or people with mobility issues, that might be an issue. Young children that like to touch things and wander off might also not do well here, as you have to walk near and under various planes to move around. The most impressive pieces include a fully airworthy B-25J Mitchell, TBM Avenger, and a North American SNJ-4B. A recovered P-61 Black Widow continues to undergo restoration. Other interesting pieces include a detailed Pratt & Whitney cut-away engine. They also have on display a training simulator. There are a large number of displays filled with various models that due to the crowding and tour are difficult to enjoy. The restoration shop cannot be toured but can be seen from inside the hanger, and it's not a large space. When the tour is complete you exit through the gift shop. Impressive, fully equipped gift shop for a museum of this size with t-shirts, mugs, and toys. Overall, my feelings are mixed in some ways about the Mid-Atlantic Air Museum. The tour guides were great, no question there. The hanger despite being crowded was good, but the condition of the aircraft on the ramp is concerning. I think for the right person or group, this could be a great museum at the right price. read more

located at Reading airport. hard to find without following direction or google maps. a sign or two at the corners of Van Reed & Leisczs Bridge or Van Reed & Arnold would do wonders. crowded but interesting gift shop. would have liked some MAAM specific magnets. amazing collection of small artifacts in the building - very enjoyable to walk through, and we went too fast. Phil was an excellent tour guide. the recently airworthy birds on the flight line are great to look at. some real gems. we got the bonus of seeing an SDB start up, taxi out, and take off for a tourist ride. the hangar has some amazing pieces. the P-61B that started it all is in amazing shape for being dragged off a mountain top in New Guinea 30 years ago and 50 years after it crashed there. looking forward to visiting again in a few years with my grandson!! read more

The Mid Atlantic Air Museum is a gem! It's located at the Reading Regional Airport and based right on the field! In fact, when you visit the museum, you'll be on the site of a WWII training base. The Museum houses an impressive collection of airworthy aircraft. There's a beautifully restored and maintained Grumman TBM, a completely operational B-25 Mitchell bomber, two Stearman trainers, a Vultee BT-13, a North American T-6 Texan, a Pitts special and many more. Most interesting of all is a P-61 Black Widow that was rescued from a crash sight in New Guinea and is currently under restoration. When complete it will be the only airworthy example in the United States. Out on the tarmac are a variety of propellor and turbine aircraft. These are static displays and are not airworthy. Nevertheless, they're fun to see. The Museum staff is made up of fliers. We were greeted by Bob, a former commercial pilot and current flight instructor. Mark, another high time pilot, showed us around the facility. Both these guys are passionate about aviation and it's a pleasure to share their enthusiasm. I was really excited to see this for the first time. I just wanted a fun day that I could remember. When I got there, waiting in line, all CC machines stopped working and they now only accepted cash. I was $1 short for a ticket and the staff was so rude and unaccepting of the situation. No one did anything to help out or make an exception. I left angry and disgusted by how I was treated by the terrible staff. They should be reprimanded. Let's just say I'm never going back. read more

The museum is very good and offers great insight into history. World War II weekend runs Friday to Sunday and is awesome. Air shows and live actors have battles throughout. People come from all over the country for WWII Weekend Friday is the best day and least crowded. Era Airplanes are open for walk thru for $5 to $10 & flights are $350 to $550 and truly a once in a lifetime opportunity to be on a Warbird. Food is festival type food . Flea market on sight all weekend . Free parking . Geico flying team was awesome. Great way to teach kids history , take a walk through time. Excellent time. read more

Went to the museum on a Sunday. I checked the website to make sure they were open. Drove about an hour and a half with traffic. Went in and was given a disclaimer that since the weekend before was WWII weekend, most of the non-WWII planes were moved across the airport and could not be seen and some of the other WWII aircraft were away on tour. I said OK and paid $8/person to get in. Boy was I disappointed. Inside the hanger were 4 aircraft + the being reconstructed P-61. There was only 1 plane on the tarmac. I don't mind donating the money, but the disclaimer should have been, there's only 1 plane to see. I was more disappointed that I drove 1 1/2 hours each way, to spend less than 30 minutes at the museum. Gift shop was disappointing as well. read more

My father and I go to their annual WWII weekend every year. They have a ton of WWII era aircraft, often flying and doing aerial demonstrations. The only reason this is getting 4/5 is because it's becoming more and more re-enactor centric, and less about the aircraft, which is a shame. read more

I love the WWII weekend each year it's just awesome. I'm a really big history (especially World War Two aviation) fan so I always have a great time. From the aircraft to vehicles, weapons, old technology, canvas tents, re-enactments, flea market, veterans panel (which is getting smaller each year unfortunately) and the great atmosphere of great people. I haven't been to the museum other than WWII weekend so I don't know what a regular visit is like but I want to go there soon. The P-61 Black Widow restoration is just incredible. I love that plane and can't wait until it's finished and actually see it fly! I know the museum isn't that big but it is still a great place to go and learn and have fun seeing the planes. The airshow is always awesome and it is really well done with great displays. The only negative thing that I would say is that each year the (mostly) same planes are there and those that are giving rides you can't get closer to check them out or take better and up close pictures. Other than that I really love this place and if you're in the area at the beginning of June I would definitely recommend going to their WWII weekend. If you are into WWII history (especially aircraft) you will really have a great experience. Highly recommended. read more

Our tour guide was excellent. It was only myself and my small family, but he took the time to show us everything he could and tell us all about backstories...paying careful attention to our young son and making sure he was "entertained". The planes are really cool. Some of them are very old, but he boasted that most of them are still air worthy (apparently one of the only museums in the country with so many air-worthy planes). It's not very big, but is the perfect day trip destination to spend an hour or two at. Pricing was reasonable as well. Would highly recommend if you haven't been there yet. read more
