Juancho’s BBQ - Pluma iberian pork - heavenly

Arguably the best burger in Madrid and potentially all of Europe (or even the world if you are…read morebold). Located in a food court in Mercado Chamberí this food stall is truly a temple of meat. The folks here bring a true passion for sourcing the best ingredients and preparing them a traditional way. Cooked over wood on a traditional parilla, they prepare a variety of high-end Spanish beef and pork dishes. Think Rubia Gallega steaks (prized beef) and interesting ibérico pork cuts. Heavenly! While the burger (made with Rubia Gallega beef) is incredible, don't sleep on the Pluma if you like pork. This may be the single best bite of an animal I have had in my life anywhere in the world (challenged only by some incredible sushi). Go here and be prepared for a religious experience! They have great wine too

We were there without much expectation but extremely impressed by their service and what they served. There was no menu in English but the staff explained to us in details. Actually if you don't understand Spanish like us, it would be kind of difficult to order in the food court. We tried the PLUMA and LA TRUFADA. The wait wasn't too bad about 20-25 minutes after we ordered and it was totally worth it. The PLUMA was well-cooked, soft inside and immediately melt in your month when you have it. The patty in LA TRUFADA was super juicy and great matched with brioche bun. The meals were also served with grilled potatoes which were amazingly creamy and tasty. My husband and I were so satisfied and decided to visit again for lunch before our flight back to New York. We highly recommend travelers to give them a chance to try their burger and BBQ.

Great service and a humorous wait staff was the highlight of this restaurant…read more The la champion burger I ordered medium came well done and the charcoal taste was too heavy. It stayed with me for a few hours. The cheddar (switched from provolone), bacon and onions on the burger worked well together. I ended up wishing the cheddar was stronger and the arugula was non-existent. The highlight of it was the truffle sauce which blended with everything including the boiled potatoes and my wife's fries. Her sweet and a bit spicy Iberian pork was juicy, but the fries were a disappointment. They had too much crust and were a bit over done. Just to note the area this restaurant was located was almost as crowded as Time Square on New Year's Eve due to the Holidays, so they may have been busier than normal.

It could have been smoother had they just communicated about it, but that did not happen. We eventually got someone to settle our check. The food was great. The Beef Low Loin was seasoned well, but slightly undercooked so the chew was hard to get through. The fries were light and crisp and overall good. The Homemade Brownie was delicious with the Butterscotch ice cream. I wish the brownie would have been hot; that would have put it over the top.

Finger licking good, although we used our utensils, but you get the point. It came with a green salad and baked potato but I opted for French fries. Dessert was also delicious. The initial service was good, I ordered the BBQ burger without cheese medium rare. Besides the Monterey Jack cheese that I skipped, it's supposed to have BBQ sauce, bacon, grilled onions, & lettuce. The burger was delivered medium well, the bacon was skimpy, and grilled onions were raw. I'm not sure if it was because of being overlooked, the burger was tasteless, the small amount of bacon, and BBQ sauce were lost, all the came through were the onions, which I removed, in an effort to taste the meat. It was a hot day in Madrid, so I ordered more water when the burger arrived, it arrived well after it was finished. As a former restaurant manager, I watched the three waiters leave the service counter empty handed five times while a waited. The service in Spain is very good, so this is not a cultural thing. In conclusion, Spanish beef is good, so don't be nervous about trying a Spanish burger joint, just not this one!
