I genuinely want to support small businesses like this one, and I keep giving it just one more try,…read morebut I'm sorry to say that this place continues to disappoint. The atmosphere is actually very nice-looking, except for the abundance of flies. As for the food, I can only speak of the lunch experience, because I've never tried the breakfast menu. I find that fresh, healthy options are missing from the menu. For example, there is no appealing large salad option. By this I mean something uncomplicated, like a large salad with a good variety of fresh vegetables, similar to a big Greek salad. They do offer a Cesar salad, but for those who are avoiding carbs, meat or dairy, what is left is just a bowl of lettuce. When I go out to a restaurant, I want to eat something that I might not go to the trouble of making at home. One then turns to the veggie panini. This used to be an acceptable healthy option. Now it comes on highly processed white bread (like a typical hot dog bun), with an unexpected slice of Kraft cheese (not mentioned at all on the menu), which I would never choose to put into my body. For me this puts the meal into the "severely unwholesome" category. The paninis and sandwiches have always come with a sizable serving of crispy coleslaw, and very good fresh fried potatoes. Now the coleslaw has become a one-or-two bite serving, and the once yummy potatoes are about half the serving size of very thinly sliced potato chips. The one item that seems to be the most fresh and the most healthy is the Canadian pea soup. If you are in the mood for a good bowl of soup, this place should satisfy.

The place: Tucked away amidst trees and homes, this restaurant screams 'campagne' and I love it! Full-on wood construction inside and out, warm, subdued colors and lots of windows that encourage natural lighting, this place offers a homey feel and a relaxed environment. They have two floors and both are well laid out. There's plenty of space between you and your fellow diners. Service: Pretty darn good. Our waitress was very friendly, and for whom this is important, perfectly bilingual. Truth be told, it's not really that hard to find English speakers in Morin Heights, as the majority of locals are Anglos. That said, have no fear - they speak French too. The goods: I only had breakfast and there's only so much one can say about eggs. I had two eggs with sausage - this came with coffee (and refills!), potatoes, toast and fruit. Everything on my plate was fresh and served piping hot. No complaints about any of it - it was all delicious. That includes the huge basket of crusty (toasted) bread. Yum! Price point: Pretty reasonable - my breakfast cost $8.25 +tax. These guys offer a pretty good variety of breakfast options, and are also open for lunch and dinner. I definitely plan to check them out again for lunch and dinner. In a town where restaurants are literally non-existent, and where your only resto options are to head to the mostly over-priced St. Sauveur, O Petit is a fantastic, affordable option.

They don't take reservations and it's popular so we hoped we wouldn't have to wait long. During our 24 minute wait they have a coffee urn at the entrance to the restaurant so we can help ourselves while we wait. What a fabulous idea!! We sat outside in the outdoor Adirondack chairs while we drank our coffee until seating opened up for us. This place was hopping, and it seemed like that was the way it was throughout our time there. As soon as we were seated the lovely server, Catherine, gave us menus and asked if we wanted more coffee. It was really difficult to chose what to order because everything looked delicious and made on the premises. Because I grew up in Montréal I had to have a traditional Québec meal of the "Cabane à Sucre" Omelette which consisted of an "omelette" (which had to be the lightest and most perfect little pillow, which we were told could be eaten with maple syrup poured into the center when you lift off the top); maple-smoked ham, "oreilles de crisse" (like bacon but very thickly sliced and crisped to perfection, complimented when dipped in their homemade tomato relish); homemade baked beans with chunks of smoked ham and sweetened with maple syrup; home fried potatoes, pure maple syrup and toast (I opted for their HUGE Cottage Bread slices). My nephew's wife had the Table d'ôte consisting of a generous slice of Québec Tortiére, smoked ham, homemade baked beans, home fried potatoes and mashed turnips (with carrots). Applicable to both of us was how we reacted to our meals. Upon each bite of our respective morsels, we slowly savoured the flavours and textures and sweetness as if it were the first time we'd ever tasted Québequois cuisine. It was heaven for our tongues. We made sure to give Catherine a nice tip for her amazing service and lighthearted attitude. On our way out (I had a doggie bag) we stopped at the counter to purchase their homemade Pea Soup to have for dinner. Tasty and light and prepared with very little salt. If you are ever in the Val David area, or anywhere in the Laurentiens (or Montréal, for that matter) treat yourself. It's well worth the drive. Voilà!!

The tables have been separated quite well so you don't feel you are eating with your neighbours. Customer service was excellent, they were swift in preparing a table for us, taking our orders and bringing over coffee. I love how extensive the menu is with so many options to choose from, suiting nearly every type of diet. There are plenty of vegan/vegetarian options and also gluten-free ones, also with customizable options for plates such as replacing potatoes with arugula salad etc. Prices are reasonable and the portions were quite generous, I really enjoyed the onion mashed potatoes and my husband loved the beyond-meat sausages. We are visiting from Toronto and have never experienced such an unpleasant situation at a restaurant before. We were looking forward to enjoying a nice family breakfast, but unfortunately this turned into one of the worst restaurant experiences we've had. We arrived around 10:30 AM, placed our order promptly, and received our drinks fairly quickly -- but then waited over an hour for our food. The restaurant only started getting busy closer to 11 AM, long after our order had already been placed, so blaming the delay entirely on the rush is unacceptable. When the food finally arrived, the plate my meal was served on was visibly dirty. At that point, after already waiting so long, I chose not to complain and just tried to enjoy the meal. Our server was kind, apologetic, and clearly doing her best. She even offered to remove three $7 juices from our bill because of the excessive wait. However, when the manager came to the table, instead of handling the situation professionally, he approached us aggressively and immediately asked, "What's the problem?" in a rude and confrontational tone -- despite the fact that I had never asked to speak to a manager. The situation became even more uncomfortable when the server explained that SHE was the one who offered the discount, and the manager proceeded to argue with her in front of us and the entire restaurant. It was incredibly unprofessional, embarrassing for the employee, and extremely uncomfortable as a customer to witness. No employee deserves to be spoken to that way publicly, especially by management. To make matters worse, after humiliating his own staff member in front of customers, he only removed two drinks from the bill instead of the three that had originally been promised. At that point, we were so uncomfortable we just paid and left without arguing further. For such a large and well-known restaurant chain, this level of disrespect, poor management, and lack of professionalism is shocking. The only positive part of the experience was the server, who genuinely tried her best in an obviously stressful environment. Unfortunately, the manager completely ruined what was supposed to be a special Mother's Day breakfast with family. I do not recommend this place at all and will definitely not be returning.
