    Books + coffee!
    Laura B.

The epitome of a local coffee shop - with an added bonus of a broad selection of used books! Bring your own book or grab one here for the perfect hygge vibe! So many great nooks with perfectly photographable areas. Drinks range from typical coffee beverages, a variety of teas (including housemade chai) and some cold teas and sodas. They proudly support/advertise other local businesses, which is wonderful to see. Baked goods are from Viking Hat and Payne Bakeries! Plus sandwiches.

Caffeine, music, plants and books everywhere; Mickey's is one of those places that I didn't enter so much as sink into like a really comfortable couch. The whole place felt broken in, like it had been there for decades despite it being relatively new. The owner/barista was welcoming, nonchalant without being aloof, and friendly. That lack of pushiness permeates the whole space; it feels like somewhere you can take your time, settle into one of several seating areas both inside or out, grab a book (or better yet, buy one) and relax. The tin ceiling hangs high above the room, giving plenty of space for the large bookshelves; ample space for the many books and potted plants to grow together. Massive windows allow natural light to pour in without the noise of Vincennes Ave. The main bar is directly ahead. With only a single barista when we visited, speed wasn't a focus, but again, speed isn't really the goal here. The menu is full of options with plenty off-menu choices as well. My cold brew with cream was excellent! Mickey's really seemed welcoming to everyone and non-judgemental. Personally, I was happy to find a coffee shop not directly associated with a particular church in town. The openness stretched to the wide variety of books available for purchase and even to the bathroom which had a sign saying to take what you needed and a basket of women's hygiene products and even a Narcan inhaler because this place doesn't seem like its going to judge you or your particular needs. I really, really liked it here. I think that Mickey's is going to become one of those places to get out of the house and relax a bit.

I want to live in New Albany again just for Mickeys! Mickeys is my home away from home. From the outdoor mural to the inside cozy... Mickeys does NOT disappoint. The cozy space brings you home and the libations are delightful. Oh, and the Fermented sweet potato sammich is the bees . Yummy in my tummy! But really, I drove all the way to Indiana for libations just for Mickeys since Louisville Coffee shops don't offer the sane relaxed and intentional feel.

How are there only 8 reviews?! But I lowkey love that this place is kind of like iykyk type of a place. Found out about this place recently bc of the Exchange that happens on Sundays from 11AM to 2PM (follow their insta for more info). Finally got to try this place and it is a book & coffee lover's dream! Super spacious yet cozy and warm at the same time. I love that they're not blasting AC like most cafes. They have about 5-6 tables and some counter top seats as well as 2 outdoor tables. I also love love that they have a water station with glass cups (instead of plastic ones like most places). The cortado I ordered was perfect. They use local Good Folks coffee and get their baked goods from Payne St and Viking Wholesales Bakery. The chicken sausage they use for bfast of champ sandwich is currently discontinued so they're trying to find an alternative. I also got the Painted Bird sandwich ($8), and it's like taste of autumn!!! You get a choice of bagel (highly recommend the cheddar garlic bagel) or GF bread with turkey, apple butter, red onion, and organic spinach. Yumm!! There's plenty of free street parking on both the main and side roads. Beautiful wall mural as well! Perf study spot with free wifi (ask for pw), meet ups, and/or dates :)

The go-to local New Albany spot for Coffee. In the last 2 weeks, we've frequented Mickey's 5 times. 3 of those days were in a row and love at first sip. The shop is filled with books (for purchase) from floor to ceiling, plants hiding in every nook and some out in the open waving at you. Their menu is full of amazing bites and sips. I stand by the house-made syrups. DO NOT SLEEP on the BLACKBERRY. I'm currently writing this inside the shop because I just don't want to leave this wonderful calm atmosphere. If my partner and I still lived around the corner, it would be a guaranteed every-morning ritual.

I stopped into Mickey's by chance. It was a rainy day and I wanted a hot tea, as I am not a coffee person. Mickey's has a housemade chia. It is less sweet and less spicy than what I buy from the store, but it is good. Several coffee, tea, and milk options are offered. They also have pastries that appear to be locally made. I had the blueberry muffin. It was dense and crumbly. I enjoyed it. I will revisit this little, local shop.

Homey and unique local coffee and book shop!! We ventured across the bridge this weekend to visit Mickey's and we will be coming back! The bagel sandwiches were home made and a unique combination I had never tried before. The coffee was excellent and there was an endless supply of books to browse! We sat towards the back and got some work done. There was also a few board and card games available.

The cookie butter latte was amazing. The cheddar beagle was amazing. Awesome service. I recommend going there. (Don't mind the half ate beagle and half drunk coffee)

They had me at Dog Friendly. Great coffee, cool decor and vibe. It's a comfy and quirky place to grab coffee to go or to meet some friends.

As I'm sipping my delicious wine, I find that my mind is drawn to one important thought: This Ollie's Bargain Outlet that I visited in Clarksville two months ago would have been greatly improved if they sold wine. Ollie's doesn't sell wine (or any alcohol, for that matter). Too bad! But if you're in the market for discounted boxes of Hungry Jack mashed potatoes, bird feeders, comforter sets, off-brand slider storage bags, water guns and neoprene gloves, Ollie's is your store. There's a lot of stuff everywhere, and honestly, it's a little overwhelming. Ollie's takes a page from the Aldi playbook: There are just ripped open boxes of items on the shelves. To heck with aesthetics -- Ollie's is too busy saving you money to fiddle around with arranging items on a shelf nicely. I stopped in to get some lotion, and wouldn't you know, I could only find one bottle of lotion in the whole store. It wasn't a brand that I would have normally bought, but you can't be picky at Ollie's. You get what you get or you can get the eff out. Visiting Ollie's is like participating in a treasure hunt. You don't know what you'll find, or if you'll find anything at all. But it's worth a shot to stop in and try.

Over the past two years, reading has become my favorite past time, and I've started buying books I really love (that I've likely listened to the audiobook of) to keep, and I've been buying other books that I'm excited to dig into. And through this, I have tried to shop local as much as possible -- Carmichael's being where I largely go. Along with loving it's selection, I've also been using its website more and more so that I can just go in to pick them up. This proved helpful late last year when I had a few hundred dollars left of my professional development budget to spend. I had several titles I had been eyeing to read for work, and I was able to put in a large order and pick these up at once. I also appreciate the kids section in this Carmichael's. I love the Carmichael's Kids store in the Highlands, but considering this store is near by house, it's proven great for when I want to buy a kid a book on the way to one of my kids' friends' birthday parties. All of my nieces and nephews also got books as part of their Christmas presents. And one more bit of praise: I have inquired twice recently about books that ended up being out of stock, a best-selling novel and a local cookbook. With both, I was able to add my name to a list, and they called when they were back in stock, holding a copy for me. You don't get that kind of service at corporate stores. Louisville wouldn't be Louisville for me without Carmichael's. It is such a source of joy, and I'm so thankful for it!
