I was a little nervous about the change because I really appreciated the people at the practice, but my initial exam was great. Both Dr. London and Maldonado took the time to meet me and get to know me, which you pretty much never see with a doctor these days. They've also begun upgrading the equipment the practice uses to state-of-the-art technology, including a scanner that images the entire internal structure of the eye, allowing them to conduct a more thorough exam as well as to track eye health over time more accurately. Another positive change is improved speed and a confirmed date by which my new glasses will be ready. In the past, this sometimes took a month or more. I was genuinely surprised when, during checkout, they provided a slip saying my new glasses would be ready in less than 2-weeks. Awesome! Another bonus I discovered was that if you pay out of pocket for your eye care needs, they'll but you a break on the cost. They didn't need to do this for me, and I was surprised to see a discount on my exam. If you're a prior patient of Dr. Downey, I think you're going to be really happy with this upgrade. If you're new to Tahoe and need good eye care, give this new practice a try. You won't be disappointed.

LIZ front desk was extremely RUDE both times, I explained to her that I had new insurance & she just ignored me. So when she was calling to confirm my appointment I told her I had new insurance that I'd changed jobs since being there last. She was still condescending & RUDE so I told her to go ahead & cancel my appointment! I will be going elsewhere. I hope that she will be taught some customer service skills if I spoke to customer/patients the way she did Id be reprimanded. LIZ please work on loving yourself so you can love your job as well, life is about choices! The 1 star is for LIZ but.....the office deserves 4!

Beyond above and beyond…read more The older I get the more crotchety I become about my vision. To say I'm a particular client is an understatement. Dr. Downey and his entire team and in particular his opticians have literally bent over backwards to help me to have the best vision possible. We're talking about making and taking back multiple different pairs until we crafted a solution that allowed me to have nearly perfect vision. It's often challenging to find really good medical care in small towns. Dr. Downey and his people are a local treasure.

Her staff is to be commended as they truly represent the doctors well. Hannah, who assisted with my most recent visit, listened and thought about her responses before she gave them. She explained the different exams that were going to occur and she gave me immediate results, which I appreciated. It turns out I can still see. Dr. Brewer arrived in the room with a burst of energy. She asked about how I was doing, cared about how I was doing, and then we began their exam. Like Hannah, Dr. Brewer told me what was happening. The whole time was patient as I asked silly questions and I came away with the opinion that she really did care. So, I guess you could go to the mall. But I don't think you'd get the quality care you get here.

I do remember the last full evaluation was done at the UC Berkeley Optometry clinic and that it was a long appointment. I've carried vision insurance for years, of which Gayle has used. But for some reason I didn't place this kind of health-related care at the same level as dental or medical. A high school friend, who is also a retired optometrist, convinced me to go, if only to confirm that I didn't have any glaucoma, macular degeneration, or cataract issues. Gayle has used Valley Care and has been very happy with Dr. Brewer. So to push me along, she made that appointment for me. The only "bad" news from the appointment was that my dependence on reading glasses wasn't really enough and that I needed progressives. The good news is that my vision didn't need that much adjustment and my eye health was A-OK. What a relief! The professionals at Valley Eyecare know their business well, and I felt that I was in good hands. That included Dr. Brewer's friendly and efficient manner, and the staff that supported her work. Later on, Gayle and I stopped by to pick up the glasses we picked out, that were largely covered by insurance. The fittings went well, and all I have to do know is get used to the progressives. Maybe I'll add some prescription computer glasses later, to compliment my screen time.

Took 4/5 min to get there? So, once he picks up his glasses, we will not be returning. It's unfortunate since I like keeping my business close to home.

I met with Dr. Johnanna Lee and found her to be extremely knowledgeable and very good about describing exactly what was going to happen during each test and procedure. I found the staff very accommodating and friendly. They let me know of any charges that were not covered by my healthcare upfront, so there were no surprises. The optometry staff also assisted me with finding new frames, which is always a challenge for me. Dr. Lee went ahead and discussed additional testing since I have a family history of glaucoma and I am showing signs that might lead into that direction. I appreciated her proactive stance and felt I was in very good hands.

They were booked out for new patients pretty far. The visit was great. The optomotrist took her time to explain issues with my dry eyes and what I can do to minimize the issue. Well I'm typing this message "without eye glasses" 12-20-2025 !…read moreI started the process to have LAL (Light Adjustable Lens) lens installed in both eyes 11-4-2025. The surgery is not unlike typical cataract surgery but it differs in that it requires eye drops 4 times a day for a week then 3-2-1 countdown for each eye and wearing a very comfortable UV protective eyewear during the healing and adjustment period which could take 2-3 times. I now have "20-20 vision" and I'm still amazed at how "clear" my vision is. I would encourage anyone wanting to regain their vision and leave your poor vision day & night along with your glasses behind to investigate this amazing "Light Adjustable Lens" that has since 12-19-2025 changed my life for the better. Couldn't ask for a greater gift than regaining my vision ! Dr.Camp was a God send for me. He is a excellent Optamalogist & Surgeon, I couldn't have asked for a better experience.
