This is quite a long review but necessary…read more I've been going to eye doctors since I first entered college. Over the years, I have been a patient with many doctors. During that time, I have had good experiences and bad experiences, the worst being in November, 2023, a few days after Thanksgiving, when I was seemingly rushed through the entire examination process with two negative results. First, I was neither able to see clearly with my eyeglasses nor my contact lenses. Second, and most horribly, even though I wore an N-95 mask, I contracted Covid with the first symptoms rearing their ugly heads three days later. As a result, I was stuck in my room for 23 days and didn't test negatively until December 23rd! Little did I know, I had mild Chronic Kidney Disease at the time and this dropped me down an entire stage in severity. I have not recovered to this very day. This horrific experience caused me to stop seeing eye doctors for fear of having my kidneys affected once again. Well, 2 1/2 years later, my eyesight had gotten so bad that my eyeglasses and contacts became totally useless. I was now experiencing migraine headaches. I just had to see an eye doctor. So, I did some research and settled on Visionworks in nearby Turnersville, NJ. What I can state, without question, is that this Visionworks office is the Mercedes of eye care facilities! From making my first appointment online, to receiving the end products, everything was great. When I first walked into the "showroom," I was warmly greeted by the receptionist, Caryl, who was smiling and seemed genuinely happy to see me. I was not questioned by anyone about my wearing a mask. My initial impression of the facility was that it was large, bright, clean and welcoming. I had already filled out the required forms online so I didn't need to waste time with those. I waited about 2 minutes when I was taken back to a room where my eyes were tested by reading an eye chart. I had an eye air puff test to check for glaucoma and I was tested for color blindness. I was then brought into the eye exam room. Who greeted me was a doctor who wore a mask and gloves and wiped down all of the equipment with alcohol that would touch my face! That immediately relieved ALL of my stress and concerns completely! Here the major evaluations were performed like I had never seen before. I saw images of the back of my eyes on a computer and this most wonderful doctor of optometry (who, sadly, asked to remain nameless) explained every single test as she performed them. She gave me the very BEST eye exam I had ever received! She was thorough, kind, understanding and most professional. She answered every question without hesitation. Back in the showroom, Caryl told me to take my time to look at the huge number of frames in every price, style and brand. I was overwhelmed by the enormous selection. I made my selection and was then greeted by a smiling Jocelyn who sat me at a desk and thoroughly explained the items that made up my bill, showing what my insurance paid and what I would owe. The final price was most reasonable comparable to what I had paid in past years. Jocelyn was so down-to-earth and felt like a friend I had known for years. She informed me of approximately when my trial pair of contacts and glasses would be ready. The bottom line is that I am able to see clearly with BOTH my contact lenses and my eyeglasses for the first time since 2006! Every person with whom I came in contact was unbelievable in how I was treated. I am extremely happy. This office now has my business. If I were asked to offer a grade for its services, it would be an easy choice: A+. Thank you to everyone at Visionworks of Turnersville, NJ! I had PRK (similar to LASIK) done in March 2011 with Dr. Dugan. I'm glad I checked around and found…read morehim. He (and the offices of two other Wills affiliated doctors that I checked) recommends PRK over LASIK and he doesn't even perform LASIK anymore. From what I've deduced, LASIK is marketed more because patients get in and out quickly, so these "LASIK mills" can do dozens of operations a day. If you actually talk to a place like Kremer, they do offer PRK if LASIK isn't right for a patient. I'm not a medical professional, but in summary PRK and LASIK use similar techniques. The main difference is that LASIK requires cutting a flap on your cornea, and that flap is what can cause problems later on. PRK does take longer to heal, but not that long, maybe a week, and requires some extra visits, I think it was one the day after, one the week after, and one the month after. These are your eyes, so don't choose a technique or Dr. because it gets you in and out quicker. Anyway, do your own research. What gives Dr. Dugan a lot of credibility is that he is also Co-Director of the refractive surgery department at Wills. He also does other types of eye surgery, so he's well-rounded. And Wills is one of the top eye hospitals in the US. There are probably only a handful of laser eye surgeons in the Philly area who have better credentials than that. If you're wondering about price, PRK with Dr. Dugan was actually cheaper than LASIK with Kremer. And all follow-up visits are with Dr. Dugan directly and are included in the price. Places like Kremer have you go to an affiliated doctor for follow-ups (and you pay for it yourself or through your own insurance). Don't you think it's better to see the same Dr. who performed the actual surgery? One other cool thing is that even though Dr. Dugan doesn't directly participate in the eye insurance discounts, he will honor them (It's actually the Wills Surgery Center that honors them, but you end up getting the discount regardless). I was able to save several hundred since they honored my VSP 15% discount. If this sounds too good, maybe it is because I healed up really well and am happy with the results. I think Dr. Dugan intimately understands the differences between LASIK and PRK and he's choosing PRK because it's best for his patients. He's not charging more than other places that perform LASIK and he actually provides more service with all the follow-ups included so I don't see him making any financial gain from only performing PRK. Anyway, go talk to at least two other laser eye surgery places and then come seen Dr. Dugan. He didn't charge me for the initial consultation and has evening hours. You have nothing to lose. And remember, you only have one set of eyes!

In my lifetime, I have tried other optometrists. I even went to a prominent & expensive one at the famous Wills Eye Hospital in Philadelphia. NONE of them met my needs. I always came back to Dr. Kramer. He is the only one who has done a good job with my tricky prescription. Not just good; excellent. Wills Eye screwed up so bad, my glasses were giving me headaches. Dr. Kramer fixed me right up (again). The staff is very friendly & helpful. I'm lousy at fashion. They take the time to select eyeglass frames that actually suit me! And I mean, I took up their time; trying on as many as I could. Most places don't carry adult petit frames (which I need). Dr. Kramer has a good variety. Excellent. In comparison, I went to a sale at Vision Works where they have thousands of frames and they had zero in adult petit. The salesman finally found a pair of youth boys for me! Then they didn't measure me right at Vision Works so I couldn't even wear the glasses. Vision Works uses a lousy lens maker who doesn't off a the options and although they advertise designer frames, you get a really cheap crappy case. Not so with Dr. Kramer!! The frames are excellent quality, he uses a top quality , reliable lens maker, and the glasses come with the designer case. Dr. Kramer knows my glasses with my tricky prescription cost a lot of money even at the basic level and he makes sure they not only meet my needs but will look good on me and last. It's rare to find a doctor these days who is actually interested in the patient. If you find a good doctor...hang on to them! Dr. Kramer is the best.
