Im talking essential oil diffuser, low chandelier lights, candles for sale, fun couches, with a maximalist-esque decor vibe, and even a little library! Second, I came in to get a bad color fixed from another salon and believe me when I say that she went above and beyond. I didn't expect much since it was in pretty bad shape coming in, but she blended it so well and did exactly what I wanted. Going back to the relaxing environment, at the shampoo bowl, I nodded off THREE times because I was so relaxed. THREE TIMES! That's never happened with uncomfortable shampoo bowls being at odd angles, but the bowl was what all shampoo bowls everywhere need to be! It's by appointment only so you'll want to book in advance if you want to get in. After I booked, I went to look for another time and she was already booked a month out. (Not surprising!!) Great conversationalist, wonderful treatment, took her time on me, and just.. what a lovely experience. I would say this place is definitely a Maplewood gem.

Even before moving, I had done pretty extensive research for a trustworthy hair stylist in anticipation and Studio 89 was one of the top picks; even after monitoring my options over the span of a month, it remained the best. I tried to make an appointment online but had some technical issue so I called instead. This was all done the morning of, and yet they were able to have me come in later that afternoon. It's a clean, small space but it's got everything you can imagine. There's plenty of parking in front of the salon. Tiffany was my stylist, and I was warned that she was going to charge more than the other stylists due to her experience (note -- all stylists charge differently based on this). As a Californian who has paid way too much for the simplest of cuts, I can genuinely say Tiffany's surcharge was 1000% worth it. She was so kind and personable, and that really made the experience. She gave me her honest thoughts and was very communicative throughout the process. She really gave me the exact hairstyle I asked for after barely flashing her a photo, and I'm so endlessly impressed! Despite constantly cycling through short hair, I've actually never liked myself in it very much. However, Tiffany's work allowed me to feel more confident in rocking a short cut than I've ever felt! They double checked with me multiple times throughout the service whether it was cut or color. The salon is neat and tidy. They have an easy way to schedule appointments online so you don't have the hassle of calling people. I ended up with Alyssa because she was the first available but boy did I get lucky! I have super long, frizzy hair that had some old balayage from another, much more expensive salon. I wanted to get the dead ends off, cover my grays, and redo the color to be darker overall with the balayage being a chestnut reddish instead of icky yellowy blonde. Alyssa and I clicked right away and I had so much fun talking to her throughout, and I was so thankful she took the time to find the perfect color shades for me. I am *that* customer that is annoyingly particular and she took my millions of questions in stride! Even though I was there for like 3 hours I never felt like I was dying to get out of there (which usually happens) and I also didn't feel rushed at all by Alyssa, which is very unusual for me because I have so much hair it takes forever. She did a great consult, listened, and made sure I was happy with the finished cut and color. She also did a great job with my brows! The salon is in a remodeled older house with beautiful natural light and big windows. I felt like I was at somebody's home, having a chat, and getting dolled up. It was wonderful after a year of "pandemic chic" hairstyle! Sarah and the staff there were great with COVID safety precautions. I waited outside until my turn and got the text to go in. Once inside, we all wore masks the entire time, and staff kept areas sanitized and clean. Parking is around back and street side as well. Side note: The shop is conveniently located close to some of my favorite food stops too - so girl's day out to pamper myself was a resounding success!
