On the day of surgery, I was told the procedure was canceled due to a positive nicotine test--something I was never informed would be required on the day of surgery. But I press forward, comforted by the amazing anesthesiologist whom made me laugh and stayed with me the whole time. After getting on the table, I fell asleep without even noticing I was about to and woke up basically on my way home. My wife putting me to bed I didn't feel tired and in fact felt energetic. The most profound thing is that I didn't even take the strong pain killers at any time afterwards. I felt no pain at any stage ever. Sure the first day is like a really bad cold, and you are super stuffy but each day gets better and in a week you are back to normal. After the first day the gel in your nose disintegrates. He then spent the next 4 weeks with a colonoscopy, endoscopy and finally a laparoscopy of my stomach. Did not do a ct or any other testing but after the laparoscopy announced I did in fact have Ovarian Cancer. It was then that all hell broke loose with my health but fortunate I was able to get to Houston, Texas to MD Anderson Cancer Center for treatment & then surgery. Again, Dr. Martinez is not an oncologist and never should have taken over my care as the original diagnosis from Spokane was cancer. And he certainly should not have done the laparoscopy surgery when cancer was suspected. Would never recommend anyone to Swedish Medical & Dr. Martinez after my experience. and the unfortunate delay in treatment of my cancer. Completely unacceptable on many levels and in fact frightening.

They offered a payment plan if I couldn't pay it all at once, which I declined. They seemed very transparent to me. It's a surgical center, that needs to cover costs, not a hospital with more flexibility in their overhead. It was very clean. Waiting room was limited capacity, and I was back in pre-op within 15 minutes. The nurses were so sweet and efficient, and what happened next was always clear. The longest wait in post op was about ten minutes. The OR nurse, anesthesiologist, and my doc all took turns coming through, then back I went. Surgery was the exact length that he expected, and the anesthetist was amazing with the meds. I was lucid within 20 minutes of arriving in post-op, and had no residual grogginess or nausea. That made me able to leave within hours of check in, and I was just amazed at their competence. I was sent home well educated and medicated, and had a clear plan of action going forward. This was all shared with my pickup contact too, so everyone was on the same page. I was delivered curbside to my ride home, and got a call today to check in on me and check my comfort. The sweetest staff. Highly recommended, and I'm not easy to please. Not cheap, even with insurance, but you get what you pay for. You want pudding? They will even bring you pudding. :D

But when they did call I was reprimanded for being more than 10 minutes away. OMG!! So even though the policy sucks, not everyone is looped in. Lame. We were diagosed with breast cancer and am now a 3 year survivor thanks to the angels at Swedish Cancer Institute. Dr. Kristine Rinn was and is our top oncologist, Dr. Morris our Radiation oncologist helped us through the cancer diagnosis. The fine people in the radiation ward, always had cheerful greeting to us, and the nurses in the chemotherapy ward was kind and gentle too. I cannot say enough good things about Dr. Rinn she was fantastic. We felt taken care of and I knew we were in good hands, it is tough enough with everything cancer brings, but thank goodness we found what we needed at Swedish!
