I have waited on hold for literally hours, and then when you finally speak with someone they tell you there's nothing they can do about an issue because they "work from home." Umm.. what?? They are inefficient, horrible at their jobs (customer service) and seem to not understand how to be proactive when dealing with people who are sick and needing a doctor's care. I spoke with a few different receptionists and reached out online, and still my issue was never resolved, nor was it escalated to someone who could help resolve it. One of the worst healthcare experiences of my life. Go someplace else if you want prompt, normal responsiveness in a medical office.

I have been seeing Dr. Murray since 2010 after being professionally referred by my ND. At the time, Dr. Murray was not seeing new patients, so we needed a written letter of referral along with discernible blood tests. My ND inferred that Dr. Murray was the best, so we did our due diligence until I could secure an appointment with his office. Dr. Murray's office is located on the seventh floor of the Polyclinic in Seattle. Right off of the I-5 James street exit. Convenient parking garages located right onsite. Blood labs for testing are on the second floor. Pharmacy and restaurant are in the lobby for additional convenience. Everything about the building is turnkey. Over the last eight years, I have always received competent and compassionate care. Dr. Murray's office is most often times running on time with little wait time. The office staff have always been nothing less than helpful and professional. I almost always come in with a laundry list of questions and my concerns are addressed and answered with a knowledgeable patience. Dr. Murray truly listens and has a friendly, professional bedside manner. He is well versed and highly educated in the Endocrinology field and is on the cutting edge of implementing new techniques many other Endos write off as "nothings wrong". This is Dr. Murray's greatest gift: practicing medicine with commonsensical intuition. I feel that I am in excellent care and trust Dr. Murray 100% with my healthcare decisions. I am lucky to be a patient of Dr. Murray.

I felt off on my dose. He said my blood labs were fine. See you in a year. I pushed back on him. He forgot I had thyroid cancer and I had to remind him. He then realized they were way off and my medicine needed to be increased! Why should I have to remind my endocrinologist about my existing condition???? Dr. Davies actually wrote me three prescriptions in two weeks to improve my TSH levels. First he wrote it for the wrong brand and then he realized he wrote it for too high of a dosage increase. (My pharmacy had to argue with the insurance company to get it filled correctly in such a short period of time. They had to explain it was physician error.) The most disturbing thing was that I learned that he was NOT following the thyroid cancer guidelines for TSH maintenance for thyroid cancer patients- which were updated in 2009. He was keeping me too low- which research shows causes cardio issues and bone loss. I had the guidelines sent to Dr. Davies by the thyca association.to hopefully make him more educated for the care of other patients. So if you have him for thyroid cancer (and you don't want to RUN from his care) - I suggest you educate yourself on the thyca guidelines at thyca.org and track your own labs! I have found a new physician at the polyclinic and I am much happier. My dose of Synthroid makes me feel much better; the physicians are more educated, personable and they have a more buttoned up then his office! They are highly responsive and communicate with my primary care doctor.

And clearly their nurse practitioner Anita is on top of things, too. (See http://www.minorandjames.com/services/obstetrics-gynecology-ob-gyn-womens-health-wa.php for a complete list of their providers.) I figured I couldn't go wrong with any of them, so I called and let the receptionist pick. They got me in within a week to see their newest doctor, Dr. Patani (http://www.minorandjames.com/directory/people/show/teresa-m-patani-m.d). She is young and super nice. The annual exam was no big deal... I didn't have to get a pap smear, though, which helps. I hate pap smears. But in any case, the exam was quick and painless. Woo hoo! They were also fairly quick overall: My appointment was at 10:40, they got me back there by 10:50 or so, and I walked out of there at 11:25. Not too bad. Everyone was really nice, as well. They are located on the 15th floor of the Nordstrom tower. There is parking in the building, and I posted a photo of the rates over here: http://www.yelp.com/biz/nordstrom-elmer-j-medical-tower-seattle. They also have a sweet view, as others have noted.

And as someone that's not trying to have children or suffers from fertility issues, I just need a regular ol' annual check up. So instead of seeing my regular doctor, I've been offered to see a nurse practitioner twice. Both times I saw Anita Tourigny and she's AMAZING! This most recent check-up I called and was told I'd have to wait until the end of September to see Dr. Hanrahan. Now I'm not in a hurry but that is a long wait. So when they said, "or you can see the nurse practitioner" and I said, "Ok... when?" I was shocked when they said, "Tomorrow." HECK YES. So I picked a 10am appointment, saw Anita and was done in less than 15 minutes. Better yet, she's awesome. She had remembered me from my last visit more than a year ago and we had a lovely conversation. Typically I'd want to complain about these awkward and uncomfortable experiences but Anita is so kind that it's totally painless. We talk work, life, vacation, food... and then I'm done! She could have drawn blood, given me vaccinations...who knows, I was enjoying our chats so much might have taken a kidney for all I know! Such a pleasant and easy experience. The office is clean, the waiting rooms are clean and the building is located near lots of cheap (and sometimes free) parking. I have no reason to go anywhere else unless I move out of Seattle.

Finding a new place that accepts your insurance and completing necessary paperwork again is not easy. No massage place is perfect, but when yours becomes a source of pain rather than pleasure, well, you get my drift. Massage therapists are fine, but the front desk people are unpleasant, unkind, and unprofessional. The first one was very pleasant in person, but apparently she was let go due to too many billing mistakes. After she left, I was billed for multiple, random appointments. The mistake was explained to me via multiple emails and phone calls, and at the end, it made sense, but it was still unpleasant. During staff transitions, I had a couple of interactions with Dr. Rachel Giordano. She was probably filling in while the receptionist position was vacant. She was unkind and unpleasant; billed me a wrong amount. When I complained, I was informed that she was from the east coast. Not sure what that has to do with her rudeness, but I let it go. I recently made an appointment and was told that I might need to update my prescription. This was a week ago. I asked the new receptionist to call me if there was indeed any problem. I was supposed to get massage today but no word from the office. No appointment confirmation text or email. Not a beep. I called the office just in case. The new receptionist assured me that all was fine and confirmed my appointment time. When I brought up our chat about my prescription, she was not sure. When she called me back -- literally two hours before my appointment,--she informed me that I needed to renew my prescription. Without an ounce of remorse, she said I would not be charged for late cancellation. LOL. As if I was getting a special treat. I had a week to call my doctor's office and get my prescription renewed. Nobody called me as promised! Dr. Justin Favreau called but he made me feel worse. He said insurance/prescription was my responsibility. Great, why didn't you tell me so a week ago? Why did the receptionist tell me that she would look into it and follow up with me if needed? I won't go back. They are not "stable".

She made me feel comfortable and relaxed every step of the way, talking me through everything. Dr. Karmali is extremely kind, attentive, gentle, humble, and calming. She went to UW Med School, so extra points for that! Another cool thing is that Swedish uses MyChart, an online personal health record system where you can see your medical history, appointments, messages from your doctor, etc. Strangely, when I called to make an appointment, the receptionist said that Dr. Karmali did not have any openings until January 2015. However, when I went online to MyChart, I saw multiple openings between now and the end of the year. I ended up making an online appointment with Dr. Karmali for early December and cancelling my phone-made appointment with another doctor at Swedish. I am so excited to go see Dr. Karmali again soon!

To this day she still works closely with me on this care and has been very good at keeping an eye out for my health and well being and continues to work with my pain management doctor at Harborview. Dr. Karmali set me up with MyChart (available to all Swedish patients) when I moved back to WA and through that I am able to discuss issues with her without having to make an appointment to go into the clinic (I'm already there enough as it is!) and she is quick to get back to me usually same day but definitely within 24 hours. She even responds on her days off and to me, that is complete dedication and proves just how much she cares about her patients. I have recommended her to a couple of friends and they love her as well. Dr. Karmali is very knowledgeable and caring. If she is unsure of something she will investigate the issue to ensure that you get the best possible care. She is just an amazing doctor and an even more amazing person.
