I go to this store on occasion when I can't find some thing at Joann's or Hobby Lobby. It's kind of curious how in most places I have lived that they're always situated right next-door to each other, even though they are owned by different companies. When I lived in Greenwood, I made it north of the County Line regularly to visit Michaels. Back then, I used to like it more than the Hobby Lobby next door; more things I liked and less crowded. I always used to find lots of stocking stuffers for the grandkids during the holidays. I also used their framing for posters or shadow boxes. And they had lots of fun crafts for the grandkids to work on when they came over to visit. But upon this visit, the place just looked different. It was brighter, but seemed somewhat empty. Maybe I should have stopped by earlier in the Christmas rush (like October or early November), but just two weeks out from Christmas, there just didn't seem to be that much to choose from. I recently found myself running to every Michael's store in the Indy metro area looking for a specific item, so this review should serve to compare those 6 locations. This may be a local bias, but this does appear to be one of the largest (if not the largest) of all of the locations, so the selection here is a bit better than most. Also it does appear to be more organized than the other locations, which may be pretty quickly explained by the space. Another big draw here oddly enough isn't the store itself, but that there is a Hobby Lobby right next door if you don't find what you're looking for. (Or if you're a spouse and not into crafting, Buffalo Wild Wings is next door if you want to spend your time over there.) Staff is pretty friendly, but a little hard to find here. Definitely wait for sales or look for coupons, a lot of items are overpriced or just plain pricey. read more

Located on Hwy 31, just south of Stop 11, next to Hobby Lobby. This place has all things crafty: beads, flowers, paint, yarn, frames, scrapbook, cake decorating, holiday items, etc. If you sign up for their emails, you will receive notice of their daily specials and coupons. (But beware, you'll receive at least 1 email every day!) They also have a free rewards program you can sign up for. And there is usually a %off coupon that prints at the end of your receipt. Disappointed in this Michaels (I think it was circumstantial). They must be low staff and have low moral because the staff was unfriendly and uncaring. I get it- it's a crazy time, but it makes for unpleasant experience. I circled the store 3 times looking for someone to help me and no one. Had confusion at the check out desk and the cashier rung up the same item multiple times and I had to correct her. The 'sales' signs were confusing (and I read them because I know they're always stipulations but just confusing/disorganized overall). Anyway, I just left wanting to return everything because I felt so horrible leaving the store. Ironically, there's a hobby lobby right next door so I'm not sure why they wouldn't try a little bit harder. read more

Looking for frames. I don't venture into Michaels to often. I find the store to be to dark in some areas most of the time. However, I found myself in the frames this past Sunday....and they have a wonderful seletion of frames, odd sizes(perfect for the projcet I was working on) and they were on sale! I needed a custom mat-and the downfall was it took 7-10 business days to get it in. Whereas their neighbor Hobby Lobby cuts them in store while you wait. This is one reason I did not give 5 stars. Also early Sunday shopping found a lot of Micheals' enthusists with a line of about 20 checking out with 2 check out lines open. Making the wait to check out longer than time spent looking for items. I used to not be a fan of Michaels (I think it's because of the lighting), but my two visits Sunday restored my interest. read more

Although they had a decent selection of the three items I needed, all the quantities were very limited. I asked if they had additional items in the back, no. They told me they don't know what stock is coming in when so I couldn't plan. They suggested I look on line. The items I need could not be shipped or picked up in the store. I find a lot of folks consider Hobby Lobby and Michaels to be essentially synonymous. At this location, that's really not the case. If I ever need anything crafting related, michaels is the first place I consider, bar none. I've recently picked up crocheting as a way to relive some of my youth interests (namely cartoons) by entertaining friends with adorable yarn versions of familiar characters. Michaels has a really excellent selection of yarn. It's not as extensive as you might find elsewhere, but the quality is certainly there. Cheaper yarns will unravel, but Michaels high quality choices won't set you back more than a less well made variety at one of their competitors. I've done a lot of framing for personal and exhibition prints as well, and it's a little bit or miss here, but if you're a DIYer, I think they edge out their next door neighbor a little bit. I've not tried their custom framing services, but they seem to have a bevy of options from casual and modern to formal and ornate. read more

I don't know why I ever went to Hobby Lobby in the first place. Michael's is way better. Their pricing on frames and custom framing are the lowest I have ever found. They also have coupons from time to time in the paper for even more money off your framing needs. The woman who works at this particular store in the frame department is really helpful and friendly. Helped with suggestions for a custom matte when I was overwhelmed and didn't know where to start. After being in here for about 30 mins I felt like I needed to start "crafting". Perhaps start scrap-booking, making beaded jewelry, paint some still life, or knit a beret and vest combo. I had to get out before I turned into Martha Stewart, the Antichrist. read more

Shelves were bare in several places, but why I gave them a low rating was customer service. Woman rang me up and applied my two coupons. First she said 64$ and change, then said oops, I mean 104$ and change. It didn't sound right, seemed higher than I thought. Sat in car and added items and it was supposed to be $64 and change. I went back in and the young man looked and looked at it. Then pushed several keys on register and said yes, we will refund you $34.04. Then at the end he said "don't expect it back in your account until 2 weeks. It should be refunded then." Didn't say sorry or kiss my foot! Rude! read more

Poor customer service at checkout. Need I say more. Also I asked that employee about a particular area that she was stocking and she acted as if I was bothering her. I don't know what it is about the store over there is very poor morale. We were checking out items and needed additional items however we were not able to find them in the store. We did ask the employee was checking us out if she could check out another store so that we can pick up those items. She scanned the SKU and said we don't have anymore in the store. Again we had asked her to check another store location for items. She told us that she cannot do that and that we can simply call the store and give them the item number. So we asked her if She could call and I guess she told us know. She then proceeded to engage her coworker to ask your coworker if she had the number if she could help us. Young lately simply do not want to help us. She walked away and her coworker told us that we could call the store. So we asked and manager to check Ross wished Major actually was able to pull of other store information and see if those items are available after we once again we're told by the employer that she cannot pull that information. The manager Sarah was great and did reach out to a location to get items see if I was that we need to wear available. She gave them our name and told him the quality and that we will pick them up the next day. So again the manager did resolve the matter but I do hope that she does speak to this employee who acted as if she didn't want to be at work today and we had did not have a good check out experience with her overall. It's really a shame because the manager has great energy I saw her interaction with customers very upbeat and so that's why it's hard for me understand why these employees are this way. I personally know and understand the retail is not easy but if this is not something that you want to do perhaps you should consider other options yourself before you run business away from your store. read more

Recently I was gifted a shadow box to display an autographed jersey. We already had one jersey from another event we'd been meaning to display and thought that since we were given this one we could hang them as a pair in a game room. So I went to Michaels because I researched the brand of the gifted frame and it is theirs exclusively. I got the same brand and same size, took it home and got them side by side and something was just off. Turns out, the original gifted frame has a flat edge front and the second one that I purchased has a ridged finish. Had they not been hanging directly together I'm sure it wouldn't have been nearly as noticeable, if at all. So I still had the receipt and went to return the ridged second purchase. The lady at the counter, before processing my return, sent me back to frames because the lady back there she said would have more information. I thought it was kind that she went out of her way to solve my issue if possible instead of just punching my paperwork through and sending me on my way. They didn't have the flat front model anymore but she suggested I try another location incase they still have one. I plan to email their corporate office, maybe there is still one out there somewhere. Either way, great in store experience, due to a competent attentive staff. Thank you! read more

Great craft, party, floral and decor items in one great location! This store is especially great because it is right next to a Hobby Lobby...so what you cannot find there you can find next door and vice versa...I cannot think of one time where I went into one store without visiting the other. They both offer so much and so different items. It is like visiting one huge craft place...just paying at two different registers! Anyways, I love the prices and I can always seem to find what I am looking for and then some at this store. read more

The people are friendly but there isn't all that much of a selection considering the size of this place. Some of the stuff looks old and out dated. I've been to other Michaels craft stores that leave this one in the dust. Again, nice people though. read more
