CHECK YOUR VINYL IN THE PARKING LOT BEFORE YOU LEAVE! Normally I love this location and I can't even fathom how much money I have spent here, but I am very disappointed in my last two trips to this store. On Saturday I went there to get some last minute items I needed to make stuff for a concert for my friend and I to use as accessories to our outfits. On Sunday I opened the Cricut Smart vinyl (HTV) I bought and almost half of it had been used. Someone must've bought it and used part of it and returned it. And this store must have just put it back on the shelf without inspecting it. I contemplated just taking it as a loss and not returning it because I knew I would get looked at sideways when returning it. But then I thought: No, I am not paying for someone else's shadiness and this store's lack of due diligence of inspecting items that are returned before placing them back on the shelves. Yesterday evening, I went back to the store with the pictured item (even though I didn't really have the time) to exchange it. And yes, I got looked at funny. The employees weren't rude or mean, but it was definitely uncomfortable for me. I never received an apology for the inconvenience and was made to feel like I was suspect. If I continue to visit this location for arts and crafts supplies (since Joann Fabrics will no longer be an option), I will be checking any Smart vinyl I buy, along with anything else packed in a way that is not fully visible, in my car in the parking lot of the store. But I will probably just start ordering my vinyl from Amazon because they are much better about matters like this and better customer service. read more

I don't normally write reviews for chain stores but I have to give proper shout-outs to the Michael's on Elston Ave in Chicago. This is the place that I go if I ever need framing done. First, the service is exceptional - any time that I've had to get a picture framed, the people in this department are super friendly, helpful and attentive. I'm never quite sure what I want for a frame and matting but they walk me through all the many options, have always recommended great pairings and at the end of the day leave extremely happy. The value here is likely the best in the city. While I like to frequent local shops, Michael's is always has the best price by a mile when it comes to framing. Do stop-in if you have any framing needs. You won't be disappointed. read more

I have to agree with some of the other reviews: - the store is well put together and lit up - they have some great deals and they allow you to stack coupons if the need is there - both Michaels and JoAnn have different niches; Michael's seems to be for the crafter while JoAnn's seems to be for the person that likes to sew & make their own clothing; both are great but you just need to know which one you need to go to for your needs But the one thing I have to agree with is that you can walk the entire store and not find a salesperson to help you find anything. I find that so strange since the store isn't small and I'm sure that there are more people working at the store than just the cashier. I haven't had a bad experience in the store, but I was in a time-crunch when I entered the store yesterday and I wandered the store looking for a gift bag instead of being able to find a salesperson to help me find one. read more

If you're not one for crafting, you might think Michael's and JoAnn are the same and having both stores in such close proximity is silly. Personally, I think it's brilliant because each one has their niche. For example, if you want fabric, don't come to Michaels. Michaels is great if your DIY project includes faux flowers, flower arranging, papercrafts, jewelry or cake decorating. Overall, I find these sections provide more depth and better selection than JoAnn. As I prepped for my wedding, I made several trips here for supplies. I made my own bouquet and was able to pick up the following in-store: floral tape, floral wire, corsage pins, and ribbon. I also picked up the cutest mini mason jars for favors. The store is spacious and well put together; it doesn't have the crowded feeling the Clark store has. The only complaint I have is the same as JoAnn. Many times, I feel like I'm scouring the store to find an associate. read more

I typically love michaels but someone was really loafing. You can't blame covid as shipping and logistics has been back to normal for months. The supplies on the shelves have been almost barren for nearly three weeks. I was going in to buy over $250 in brushes and paint but they haven't restocked the shelves in a month. I was going to also buy a new easel since the artist loft ones are 50% off but of course barren shelves. I ended up buying everything on eBay and will most likely do so from now on. read more

I needed to return a cricket cutter and one of the girls told me they can not return cricket products, I was very upset. They called the Manager (Jacob) and he told me the same thing, I was so upset at this point but Jacob seen that I was just trying to exchange the cricket cutter for a cricket mat. So Jacob did what any great Manager would do and made my purchase of the mats a happy one and by doing so he help Michael's keep a customer. Stores need more manager like Jacob. This place is great! This Michaels is one of the few places around that have this specific liquid acrylic paint I like to use. The staff here is always great. I often get checked out by Alysha, who is always so sweet and friendly. Maria is great too, and has been very helpful to me. We had three paintings framed here. There were a few issues of note with the framing. For starters, after bringing a painting home and hanging it on our wall, a few days later, the glass just fell out of the painting onto the ground. The painting remained on the wall, so clearly it was an issue with something Michaels did, not with our hanging of the painting. Despite this, I had to pay to have new glass put it. This should not have happened but I really wanted it done so I had no choice. When I took that painting back to get redone, I brought two others to get framed. When I went to pick them up, only two were ready (2 weeks later) because the frame on one had been scratched so I now have to wait another 2 weeks to get my last painting back. After I get this final picture back, I will not return to this location. Disorganized, poor customer service and they have not done a good job with framing. read more

Unhelpful and condescending staff. I wanted to have some posters dry-mounted, which they did for me a few years ago. Apparently this is no longer a stand alone option; instead, I'd have to pay the full price for custom framing ($79+) just for a dry mount.
