When we walked into the store, we were kindly greeted by Jo who taught us so much about qiviut and how the yarn were hand dyed in small batches in Anchorage, colors inspired by the beauty of Alaska. She opened the case with the qiviut and allowed me to handle a sample on my hands. The qiviut was very lightweight, and surprisingly very warm! Walking around the store, I had never seen the yarn color variations that Wooly Mammoth had. Also, I loved how catchy the name was! I eventually settled on the Northern Bee studio 80% superwash merino 20% nylon poison water yarn and purchased a 5mm crochet hook. I really appreciated Jo's kindness and expertise in crocheting and knitting. Definitely a must stop if you're in downtown!

I went in to grab a gift for my wife, fully expecting to point at something and hope for the best. Instead, Ms. Kay took the time to walk me through different types of yarn, what they're used for, and even the kinds of projects they go into. She didn't just sell me yarn, she educated me... patiently. The shop itself is a great setup. Tons of options, great quality, and you can tell everything in there has a purpose. It's one of those places where people who know what they're doing can really get after it, and people like me don't feel completely lost. Bottom line, Ms. Kay is just a genuinely good human being. Friendly, knowledgeable, and runs a solid business. Highly recommend for anyone into crafts... or for husbands trying not to mess up a gift. #SupportLocal #SmallBusiness #Alaska #CraftLife #ShopLocal #MayorJacobs

By all means, they're beautiful, unique and made a lovely hat and fingerless gloves, but dang! I sure hope my son's girlfriend loves them! :D The nice lady working in there was very kind, available if needed and just allowed me to browse at my own pace. It's quite nice that they offer to roll the hank of yarn into a ball for you as well, which only takes a minute or two each. Just as the pandemic was hitting in the spring, they were getting ready to have classes for spinning yarn and unfortunately that has been postponed until all this ridiculousness is over. I'll probably go to a class or two, since I do have a wheel of my own. I merely dock a star for the price... by all means I will keep shopping there when I'm in need of fabulous yarn, but it's not for the random piece or practice project for sure. If you're looking for a specialty yarn for yourself or a gift, I highly recommend The Tangled Skein!

I don't really celebrate holidays but if I did this a where id be buying decorations from. The cashier at the front was nice, and patient with me. My only caution is that there are so many people who drive too fast in the parking lot and don't pay enough attention. So I'll be back. Plus they have fabrics.
