My wife and I both have experience as successor trustees managing Living Trusts for each of our deceased parents, at different times. Being familiar with the administration aspect, we understand the importance of having a thoughtful, well drafted trust document. Not all documents are created equal, I assure you. This office was not interested in our business nor were they considerate of our time. We scheduled an appointment to discuss setting up a will and trust. We arrived at our appointment 10 minutes early and the receptionists informed us that Mr. Genovese was in a meeting and would see us shortly. After 20 minutes (10 minutes after our appointment), we were still waiting and no one in the office bothered to provide an update. When I asked if he was still in a meeting the receptionist replied, "he's in a final signing and sometimes they run long" and never bothered to check to see how much longer it would be or provide any other information. About 5 minutes later someone came out to tell us it would be about 5 more minutes. Well, that 5 minutes blew by and still no one provided any update. In my opinion this is unprofessional and poor communication. To be fair, we never got the opportunity to discuss our legal affairs with any one at this office so I can't provide a review on any service. Our first hand experience in September 2017 with an estate lawyer that ended in disaster led us to be more careful in selecting one to review and do a few amendments to our existing Living Trust set up in 2003. Amendments include replacing a deceased successor trustee, replacing a charitable organization to receive our Estate's 10%, asset distribution at death of a trustor, and create a Spendthrift Trust. Got myself in a real jam because several years ago I used Legal Zoom to set up a trust. That was a major mistake, a foolish mistake, because in the end I set up a trust that years later came around to bite me in the butt. A trust attorney was recommended to help me deal with the various issues, but nothing happened. No papers were filed, nothing was signed: for 2 or 3 months the process was stalled. So I decided to change trust attorneys and hired Michael W. Brown. Right away things started moving. We had one initial phone conversation and then everything was done via email. I'd send him questions and comments late at night and he'd have them answered by the next morning. He'd send me drafts of the trust, the POA, etc., and I'd make comments and send it all back. By the next day the corrected materials would be in my email and ready for my review. That, of course, is how it's supposed to be -- but it's not always the reality. When you're already dealing with issues, you want an attorney who gets things done - and that describes Mr. Brown very well. My bottom line is that I'm very pleased with the work Mr. Brown did for me. He's easy to work with, he listens, he communicates, his pricing is very fair, he is very experienced and competent -- you simply will not find a trust attorney who is better no matter how much you pay.
