This Podiatry center has a new MD. Dr. Stephen Haynam took over the practice and I was worried…read more But my first appointment with Dr, Haynam showed me, I had nothing to worry about. I have horrible trigger toes, and I have been having an increasingly hard time walking for any distance as my balance and curled toes were hindering me. I went into the doctors office and the first thing he did was make a special pair of shoe inserts for me. We agreed that I would try them and see how they worked. They worked very well, but my toes still rubbed against the top of my shoes. As the doctor had requested, I no longer went barefoot. But open shoes such as flip flops or sandals were the only comfortable shoes. Even my favorite tennis shoe gave me blisters on the tops of my toes. I went back to the office and Dr. Haynam and I talked about the options and alternatives for me. It came down to being able to wear closed toed shoes comfortably without blisters forming. He also instructed me on proper skin care, and ensured that I inspected my feet everyday. I have no feeling in the bottoms of my toes due to type 2 diabetes. We decided to do a tendon release for all my toes except my great toe on each foot. It was a quick procedure, no pain really, as he used a local anesthetic and a sharp needle to release the tendons. No incision, no recovery time, I walked out of his office and drove home ten minutes after the procedure. I am a very happy camper! I have better balance now, and my toes do not curl under. I have a larger flat surface to balance on and walking is getting easier. I am going back to ask him to do my great toes as well, as I am still wearing blister bandaids 50% of the time. I did not want to do all my toes at once and the doctor was fine with working in stages. I worry about infections, and split skin, blisters and painful heels. I have little to none of those problems now, and I am thrilled to say my feet are in the best shape ever. I even went and got a pedicure. I was always too embarrassed to have one done as I had no control of my toes curling under. Not embarrassed any more. I have recommended him to some of my daughters friends, one who broke her back and has sensory issues with her feet. And just to add a smile to how sharp the doctor's skills are, he's a nice guy. Always willing to chat a little, to break the ice, happy to hear how his patients are doing, and really does want you to check back with him, good results or not so great. I'm never changing my podiatrist. I am happy and becoming more and more secure in my balance and walking.

The staff is equally wonderful--friendly, attentive, and supportive. A special thank you to Ellen at the front desk, who took the time to help me with my insurance and made the whole process so much easier. I couldn't have asked for a better experience and highly recommend this office to anyone in need of a podiatrist.

When I go to Dr. Basso I know all my questions will be answered and my specific needs will be met. First, Dr. Basso surgically removed a rather painful plantar wart after less invasive treatment didn't work. I was on my feet pain free within a few days. 6 months later, I came back to Dr. Basso after sustaining an injury to my toe from a rock climbing accident. I trusted him and his team from my first round of visits and asked for another referral to Dr. Basso from my primary doctor. Although I didn't break any bones in my toe, I was experiencing chronic pain with daily activities like walking months after the initial injury. With a regimen of rest via a CAM walker boot, laser treatment and a topical NSAID, Dr. Basso has greatly reduced my pain level. Even during times of frustration with my injury, Dr. Basso was able to help me understand the sometimes slow process of healing and encouraged me to persevere with his treatment plan. Today I am on my way to being active on my feet like I used to be pre-injury. Additionally, when Dr. Basso recommended a treatment I was unfamiliar with, MLS Laser therapy, he helped me understand how the treatment would work, providing supplemental readings at my request. He helped me feel confident and comfortable with the treatment. Dr. Basso clearly cares for his patients and always has their best interest in mind. 5 stars!

They were supposed to take care of ingrown toe nails on my big toes both feet. The pictures tell the story. This practice took over Dr. McKibben's patients. Dr. McKibben retired. I had to go find another podiatrist to heal my damaged/botched procedure. No medication for infection. Do not go here unless you want your toes to look like this. My right toe will never be the same. Deformed.

My experience with her has soley been with the care that she has provided to my mother. When my mom first went with her she was prediabetic and not needing any medication. Once Turkot became her doctor she started pushing pills on her. Starting her with high dosages of Metformin and other prescriptions. Even after doing the A1C test her levels were not high enough to be on medication. My mom took the medication because it was prescribed by someone who studied medicine. When my mom complained about still being dizzy, nauseous, and tired. All Turkot would tell my mom is that she needed to push back from the table. That these side effects is due to her being over weight. When my mom did lose weight instead of telling her to keep up the good job, she was told again to push back from the table. On her visit to Turkot about a month ago she complained that her left arm felt numb and that it felt like there was a rubber band wrapped tight around it. Instead of being concerned Turkot acted like it wasn't a big deal. Just about everyone knows that when it comes to your left arm there should be some kind of concern. Especially since that arm can is basically the first sign that someone may be suffering from a heart attack or stroke. All Turkot told her is that she is experiencing pain because she is overweight and that once she loses weight her arm will not be numb any longer. Flash forward to yesterday when she goes sees a specialist. Since my mom's arm is still numb two months later the new doctor said that she suffered a stroke. All of the medication that Turkot has prescribed three of them my mom doesn't need. My mom has high blood pressure, but Turkot didn't prescribe her any medication to help treat the blood pressure. Also my mom is now experiencing kidney failure. Instead of noticing and listening to the signs that my mom was telling her, Turkot just told my mom to drink more water. That she didn't need any water pills to help her get rid of the swelling in her foot. Her foot is so swollen that at times you can press upon her foot and your fingerprint leaves an indent. To help reverse the kidney failure the specialist has prescribed my mom new medication where she has to inject herself 4x a month. The prescription is $200 out of pocket. Looking back I regret that my mom was assigned to Dr. Turkot. She doesn't have a good beside manner and it seems as though is in bed with the pharmaceutical companies. She is always rushing barely spending ten minutes in the room with my mom. When my mom complained about her "good" foot being in pain, once again she told my mom to push away from the table and to lose weight. Luckily, my mom talked to a podiatrist and they got her in. Turns out that she broke a bone in her foot. After getting x-rays and her foot in a cast she was finally able to get on the road to recovery. Just think about all the damage she could have further done to her foot if she listened to Turkot?

So I switched it up and took my PPO insurance to a foot doctor outside of my normal hospital, and he referred me to Dr. Choi since this area is her specialty! After breaking my foot last year, one of my toes healed a little 'off', even though I followed up and went back to John Muir twice to say something didn't feel right; I wasn't listened to, and now I need a surgery that will cut out part of my bone on my 4th toe. Ew! Dr. Choi made it seem really simple though. She explained the whole process, the surgery, what probably happened to cause this, how long recovery will be, etc. She spent a lot of time with me and answered my questions. The front desk staff were all awesome too. It was easy to schedule the appt and they were on-time the morning that I visited her Antioch location. She also has an Orinda location, which is just as close to my home - so that's convenient! I told the doctor about my upcoming trip to China/Thailand and she suggested I wait on surgery until after I return, and then shared about her love of traveling as well. She was really friendly. Honestly, if I were to describe EXACTLY what I want in a health care provider, she'd completely fit the description. I really loved her and her office! So glad to switch hospitals!
