When I found that Dr. Mark Bohnert had hired two of the very trusted professionals who had assisted Dr. Hayes I decided that I would make an appointment and see how it went. It was further than I usually would drive, as I'm near downtown and have heard of some excellent dentists there. I have now been to see Dr. Bohnert and am very happy with him personally and his office and staff. This is a family dentist's office! If you are looking for a dentist's office that is modern, highly professional, and family friendly I recommend you pay them a visit. I am completely satisfied. I will miss Dr. Hayes. He was a wonderful and unique human being. But I believe Dr. Bohnert and Southeast Family Dental will provide me the quality dental work I need with the friendly, competent care that Dr. Hayes did. The facilities, recently updated and refurbished, are comfortable, cutting edge, beautiful, and comfortable. Even the music was uplifting and enjoyable. My only beef is the overuse of paper -- I look forward to being able to get receipts, explanation of benefits, and estimates of plans electronically. Save the trees!

I could save money by going somewhere else, but I don't because I trust the work they're doing. They offer me a blanket, pillow and water at longer appointments like fill-ins. I'll always say yes to a blanket! ;) They're totally fine with me putting in my headphones and listening to music or podcasts so I can drown out the noise while they work. They really do their best to make sure your comfortable, your questions are answered, and your teeth and gums are in good health. I was with Makenzie the day I'm writing this review and she is a great hygienist! She did my latest cleaning and did a wonderful job. She was also super friendly and good at explaining things as she did them. Be sure to call and book your appointment in advance! It's usually that appointments are only available a month away from when I call. Note: I wrote a review of Bacsa Family Dentist when they were going by Emerson Ave Dental in a different building. I had my old dentist email my xrays before my appointment, and they pulled them up and used them in my exam. I was happy to avoid the biting-on-hard-plastic-while-the-doctor-takes-pictures-of-your-teeth routine. One thing that rubs me the wrong way, maybe because I work in the health care field, is when someone who is going to be working with you doesn't introduce themselves. When I arrived, I didn't get a "Hello, welcome to..." I got "Here, fill out this paperwork". Neither my dental hygienist nor Dr. Summerlin introduced themselves to me. Only the receptionist called me by my name. I prefer my doctors, nurses, dentists etc to be friendly, and I didn't feel like anyone here was particularly friendly. Not unfriendly, just not very warm. The office was in an older building, and it seemed like the place could use a few updates. The dental chair was torn. However, I don't mind those things too much. I've been to dentists with massage chairs and DVD players, so if that is what you're looking for, go somewhere else. If you want quick, professional service, come see Dr. Summerlin. I am very satisfied with the cleaning I got. My teeth feel great, I was in and out quickly, and Dr. Summerlin even joked and called me "boring" since I didn't have any cavities or concerns. I will most likely be back to see Dr. Summerlin and the anonymous hygienist again in six months.

They do get busy sometimes, but they are still able to get people in and out for their cleaning appointments in a timely fashion. I like Dr. Summerlin a lot, and I really like most of the assistants. There are some that are rougher with their cleanings with other, but overall for the most part they do a great job.

They are definitely a family-feeling dentist office: they are on a lake, in what clearly used to be a house, and you have to come in for 2 appointments before they do any real work or cleaning so they can get to know your mouth, teeth, history, etc. Some people have noted not enjoying this aspect, but personally it makes me feel cared for and like they are taking the time to really understand what I need.
