I decided to get a second opinion, and was offered a much simpler solution--adding a second cold air return--which resolved the issue and actually improved system efficiency for around $400 total. My takeaway isn't just about Long's, but HVAC work in general. Always get two to three bids, especially for air conditioning. I've had multiple companies work on the same house, and it still wasn't running correctly until a simpler, more experienced solution was applied. You don't want inexperienced technicians guessing or experimenting on your system. You want someone knowledgeable who's been doing this work for a long time. Ask questions, challenge repair recommendations, and require that they put it in writing that they've correctly diagnosed the issue and that the repair will fix the problem. There's no reason you can't ask for that before approving the work.

I was concerned about air quality after construction. We realized the builder didn't cover vents properly so construction debris (drywall bits, saw dust etc) was in all the returns and some of the vents. Ray did not consider the job complete until I was fully satisfied. They also have some really good options for air purification which I purchased. Overall, I'd highly recommend them and will use them for annual cleanings.

It's not often a business gets a 5 star review by performing NO work! I contacted Tom with a…read moreproblem with a possible blocked dryer vent on our 2nd story townhome. Tom kindly explained that he could perform a White Glove service but can't go up on the roof. This is a common limitation as I searched for businesses to help confirm and fix the issue. But Tom noted that there is a high likelihood that the vent was installed with a screen left in place - something the installer should have removed. Tom recommended I contact the builder, asking them to address the issue. Tom gained nothing by making this recommendation but I hope this review and my future business repays him and his company in some small way.
