We got the referral to Dr. Mikulecky from the ER at Mercy (hopefully after letting the physician referral line know our experience they will stop referring others there). Jenna in the office is so unhelpful to patients that we had to call back and ask to speak to the office manager, Stephanie. She was worse! She said they have no doctor who sees fractures in the office only on Mondays and Wednesday's. He is on call but unavailable. They are anticipating being "inundated with traumas over the summer and won't be able handle it." Not too busy now, just expect to be and don't even refer to patients as people. There you have it. GO ELSEWHERE! Also the MD referral line has the complaint about them to save others from them. read more

First of all, I have NEVER written a review of anything or anyone on Yelp or any other site. But I feel it is my duty to share my experience with Dr. Mikulecky in hopes that it might help one person to steer clear of him. It looks like nothing has changed with Dr. Mikulecky's level of service since that review in 2011. I was referred to him with a suspected foot fracture that did not show up on x-rays, so my primary care physician wanted him to do an MRI. It had been 10 weeks (on crutches) since my injury and I was still in pain. Dr. Mikulecky did not order an MRI, did not even look at my foot, merely told me to wear a walking boot for three months and come back if I was still having issues. After three months in the boot, I was still in pain every day and I went back. He asked why I had been walking on it, saying that I should have been non-weight bearing. I told him he had told me to use the walking boot and he said "I never would have done that." Then he FINALLY ordered a bone scan of my foot. A month later I finally got the scan and he said I had stress fractures throughout my foot, as well as a broken big toe. he put me in a hard cast from my foot to my knee. I was in that cast (100% non-weight bearing) for nine weeks. The day the cast came off he told me to start walking on it normally. No crutches, no walking boot, just my regular shoes. He said "you are done." Needless to say I was in EXCRUCIATING pain after having my foot immobilized for nine weeks. I tried to walk on it, but it was too painful. I did some Google searches and spoke with a physical therapist friend on the phone and everything I read/heard said that I should ease back into walking AND have physical therapy (which he did not recommend for me). I got my primary care physician to refer me for physical therapy and started going two days per week. Two months after my cast came off, I was still using one crutch . . . and Dr. Mikulecky had told me to walk without crutches on DAY ONE. Then, about a month ago, I felt something happen in my foot and I was in major pain again, unable to put any weight on my foot. I finally got an MRI done and was told that my third metatarsal is fractured. I am not sure at this point if this is the same injury from before or a new one. But I know one thing, I will NEVER go see Dr. Mikulecky again and I would recommend that everyone stay clear of him. Just to put this into perspective, my original injury was in mid-August 2013. It is now August 7, 2014. Yes, almost an entire year. And for all intents and purposes, I am right back where I started. In that time I had 6 or 7 appointments with Dr. Mikulecky and he never spent more than 2 minutes with me. He never gave me any advice, details about my injury or the healing process, or any other information. What he said to me was limited to things like "wear a walking boot," "I never would have said that, you should be non-weight bearing," "we're going to put you in a cast," and "you are done." For each of those 2 minute appointments, I waited an MINIMUM of one hour past my appointment time to see him. One time I saw him arrive at the office 45 minutes after my scheduled appointment and despite me being the first appointment of the day, he chose to see four other patients (with later appointment times) before he saw me. So I waited for two hours that day to see him for 2 minutes. He never said anything along the lines of "sorry for the wait." I knew after my first visit with him that I was disappointed with his level of service, but unfortunately because I had already been referred to him, my insurance would not allow me to be referred to a different orthopedist. In hindsight, I wish I had pushed harder and gone as far up as I needed to with the insurance company to get a different doctor. I won't make the same mistake again. I am fighting right now to see a different doctor for the "new" injury. read more

My daughter was referred to Dr mikulecky aka Dr milarkey..via the ER after having an accident which cut one of the tendon in her arm, we are on partnership insurance, he told my hubby and my.daughter he does not work for Obama or for Jerry brown..and that we should not expect a big Mac for the price of a cheeseburger..oh yeah and he doesn't work on hands..then he proceeded to crouch down right in front of my hubby's face and dog him..trying to start a fight..hubby told him.he better give him 3 ft. As he was invading hubby's personal space..oh and to boot all this after he say's we dropped the ball..funny thing is he was the on call Dr for the ER the day this happened..they tried calling him.several times with no response from him..the ER then referred her to him why I don't know if he doesn't do hands..glad I was not there I would have smacked his smug ass..my kid came home in tears she does not have much time to get this taken care of..so now we are waiting on yet another referral...he is the biggest AssHat ever..if you have partnership do not even give him the time of day, he is a pretentious ass unless you're a rich soccer mom read more

Bad enough to come back on and write another one . Please if you have any choice T all whatsoever do not go to him. I've never been treated worse as a patient or from his assistant. I honestly cannot believe he's still in practice. Most arrogant person I've ever met. I fell and shattered my kneecap. Thank you Dr. Your expertise and ability to repair it. Six pieces of bone have healed back together because of the screw a and wires you applied. My review was long and detailed but I realize I don't need to explain why my visit was awful in such detail. This doctor never provided information before surgery, didn't provided appropriate pain management post-op, and generally disregarded all of my concerns. There have been major complications following an ankle surgery and this office and the doctor have made me feel like I'm not worth their time. Bottom line-if you have reservations before surgery, get a second opinion and find a doctor who actually cares about more than just getting more surgeries in the door. read more

I was a patient of Dr. Mikulecky of the Redding Orthopedic Clinic, after falling off a 12 ft ladder and breaking my arm and several ribs and injuring my back. In my opinion, the health care I received was extremely sub-standard and I still have muscle and nerve problems as well as a deformed arm several years later because of this poor care. Essentially this physician treated only my broken arm and never addressed my other injuries - he offered absolutely no comprehensive treatment for the associated trauma to my back. And in fact the brace that he recommended resulted in a frozen shoulder (muscle wasting that results in lack of movement) that made matters even worse. I had to insist on physical therapy (which he neglected to offer after the shoulder was frozen) and then undergo months of therapy to get back a minimal level of function in my arm and shoulder. There were also gross errors in my chart, such as documentation that I was being treated for my hip, that left me feeling Dr. Milulecky was very sloppy and/or incompetent in treating the entirety of my medical problems. I regret on a daily basis that I did not obtain a second opinion or use another physician as this problem will likely remain with me for the rest of my life. Dr. Mikulecky assured me that the course of treatment he recommended (brace versus surgical repair) was the same that he would recommend for his own family member. I believed him and trusted him with my care. Based on the very prolonged and only partial recovery that occurred with this approach, I now highly doubt the sincerity of his advice at that time. I strongly believe I would have had a much better outcome, a faster recovery, and probably a full recovery with another physician who was willing to treat me comprehensively, rather than myopically focus on just my broken arm. read more
