I went years ago ONCE for eczema. I kept getting calls that I assumed were spam and finally I decided to google the number and recognized this office in the Google search. Curious because its been 5+ years since I went I decided to answer. Not sure if they are selling their client list, but I got some generic telemarketer telling me since I was seen for "acne" at my last visit it would be the perfect time for their "special offer" and proceeded to sell me... Scam artists!. Please if you see this avoid at all costs. My bf was seen in 2020 and had a mole removed, he paid his copay and was told he was all set and left the office. Weeks later he received a bill for $500 so he called his insurance and they told him not to pay it and explained even though dr Lin was in network their office used an out of network lab costing my bf money he shouldn't have to pay. Then today Oct 2024(4 years later)he gets a call from a collection agency that he owes $192 from Dr Lins office and has 24 hours to pay or it will go to his credit score. He called his insurance only to find out he switched policy in 2022 so he needs to contact his previous insurance provider. Then he calls advanced dermatology and they tell him since his bill was sent to collections they cannot provide him with a breakdown of how it went from $500 to $192 and they don't have any record of what services were performed...I thought medical records had to be kept 10 years? He asked to speak to a medical RECORDS department to get a breakdown of what the bill of $192 was for and the number given was the collection agency who told us they don't have access to medical records they just were sent the debt to collect on it. Total scam office! Now for my experience I was seen here last month and checked in at the front desk, after waiting for almost 2 HOURS I go up to the receptionist and turns out she did not check me in! They asked my name and if I was a previous patient and I said yes and they never checked me in, turns out it had been a while so I needed to fill out patient forms again that I was never given. It's too bad I really enjoyed Sunny I have an upcoming referral for a cyst excision myself and wanted to get some filler/botox and possibly get fractional laser done again because she had previously done laser for me with good results and I wanted to rebook with her and add some services as I'm getting older and it's time for Botox, I really trusted sunny and wanted her to provide these services but I will not be returning back to this office. Be careful they also have a Santa Clarita office that a friend of mine went to and she said she had some billing issues too! Caution!!! read more

This review is not about the doctors at this facility but about the billing practices specifically. As others have stated in their reviews here, patients are not being billed correctly and are told misinformation in regards to their deductibles being met. I went in for a full body cancer screening on August 8th which led to two biopsies in that same appointment. I was charged a $95 co-pay plus an additional $410.18 for the biopsy procedures. After speaking with my insurance, my patient responsibility should've only been $235.14 which included the $95 co-pay. I have added three photos to this review to show documentation of the incorrect billing. This facility does not give itemized receipts, just credit card terminal receipts. Most likely this is so you don't find out what I did, that they are over billing and coming up with their own costs out of thin air. I was also charged a $95 co-pay for a video chat to receive the results of the biopsies. Unfortunately, the video chat did not work and the doctor called me instead. We were on the phone for a total of four minutes, yet I was still responsible for the $95 telehealth office visit copay. For a phone call. Just under a week later, the billing department called me to let me know how much surgery would be to remove a basal cell carcinoma using the Mohs technique. Their quote for service was $1,722.36. I called my insurance company to find alternate doctors in the area to see if this pricing was accurate. This is when I became aware that on my initial visit I was incorrectly charged. Also, my insurance company requested that I ask the doctors office for the CPT code(s) in order to look up the exact procedure they are quoting at $1722.36. When I called back and asked the billing department for that information they refused it. I am entitled to know the CPT code(s) for any and all procedures being performed or having been performed on my body, according to my insurance company. I will not be returning to this facility to seek any further treatment and will be filing a grievance with my insurance company as well as the CA insurance commissioner. This is an extremely shady billing tactic and I am owed a refund. Update: Left a voicemail with Sara de la Cruz in the billing department on September 4th to discuss being over billed and owed refund. She said she would look into it and call me back. By September 6th I had not received a call back so I decided to call in myself. She agreed that I was owed a refund. She told me to wait 5 to 7 business days to receive my refund. September 19, I called back in as I had not received my refund. She once again confirmed that I was owed a refund and would need to speak with her team and get back to me. It is now September 25, no call back again, and I still do not have my refund. Left yet another voicemail. I have called multiple times and keep getting the runaround from her. Ridiculous. read more

I think Dr. Lin is probably a very good doctor, but his office staff needs a lot of training.

This review is not about the competency of the doctor. Most reviews are not about the doctors and dentists, but the operations and staff. There was a lot of poor communication, which could have saved me driving 100 miles RT, to a Sherman Oaks office, from Ojai. An intern was allowed to determine that I needed a Mohs procedure--she was not yet capable. So I drove all that way to find out, they only needed to burn out the basil cell, which could have been done in their Oxnard Office. The drive is tiring and takes away from my day, and costs me in gasoline and wear on my car. Also, prior, I had called the Oxnard office on three occasions and asked if the basil cell could be removed at my followup in Oxnard. I was assured on all three occasions that it would be. The staff was not briefed on this information, apparently. Instead of saying, I don't know, I'll find someone who does know, they just make up an answer. Poor operations, briefing and answers and a waste of a patient's time, which is valuable to the patient, if not the staff and doctor. read more

Back again with more complaints about this Dr and his office. My bf was quoted almost $2000 to have a recurrent cyst removed from right beneath his eye by Dr Lin. He's decided not to go through with it because that was outrageously expensive. He's since changed derm because of Dr Lins suspicious billing practices, and the new derm has quoted $200 out of pocket - about $150 for the procedure and $50 for labs after insurance. There are doctors, and then there are angels that happen to be doctors. This is true for Dr. Michael Lin. He is a caring, knowledgeable specialist who is sensitive to his patients and ensures your comfortability and that, as a patient or caretaker, you are informed about your aftercare. I also love the fact he has his own skin care line and I am a big fan of skin care products. If you're like me and you like MASKS he has a pumpkin enzyme mask and charcoal that smell great and do wonders on your skin. Worth every little penny in my bank!! My appointment today was at 1pm - it's now 1:30pm and I'm still waiting to see someone, anyone. I made this appointment because the office comes back from lunch at 1pm. I was even informed that I would be the first patient to be seen when I made the appointment. So what goes? Dr. Micheal lin is one of the most amazing Drs that I've ever met. We were there for a wart removal for my 3 years old daughter and Dr. Lin made the process very easy and fun. My daughter is terrified by Dr appointments but after this appt she was asking me to take her back Dr is very knowledgeable and experienced but at the same time very down to earth. He patiently answered the question I had regarding the fat droplets on my face eventhough we were actually there for my daughter. The staff are super nice and friendly. I went to have my annual body check and all Dr. Lin looked at was the few lesions on my back that I'm pretty sure we're basal cell, as I've had some removed on the past. He froze those and also offered to freeze some actinic keratoses on my face. The result was numerous blisters on my face and back. These took about 10 days to heal, and I lost three days off work. I am a Licensed Medical Esthetician, so that's a loss of about $350 a day of income for me. I am now billed for $90 that my insurance won't cover, and I have to go to another dermatologist to have my skin check and basal cell removed. He was very rushed, didn't take the time to be thorough with my exam, and was trying to push a levulon treatment on me to the tune of $500. Terrible doctor who's in it for the $$$ read more

If a Dr's staff is considered a reflection of who they are, then I believe Dr. Lin is as great as advertised. Leila (NP), Emily and Myra have taken great care of me and my needs in regards to my medications - and ultimately, overall health and well-being. They don't beat around the bush. I had a horrendous experience with Dr. Lin. I went in for a rash that I was fairly certain was pseudomonas a.k.a. hot tub folliculitis on a Tuesday. Dr. Lin looked at it and said it could be that but it also could be something far worse (that is contagious), but was going to order bloodwork to be certain. He said he was going to call in prescriptions for antibiotics and another drug for the other diagnosis. I said I was uncomfortable taking two drugs especially taking one that is unnecessary. He said at most it would be a day or two and to take both drugs for a couple of days wasn't dangerous. I asked him to please STAT the results to shorten having to take unnecessary drugs. The next day, I had a horrible stomach reaction to to the drugs so I called the office to let them know and asked to have the doctor call me back and to see if they had results. They said they had results for three out of four of the tests but couldn't give me the results till they had all of the test results and someone would call me with the results soon. I waited two more days since no-one called me back (until Friday) and shared I was still having a bad stomach reaction and really didn't want to take unnecessary drugs anymore and to please check with the lab and call me back please as it was Friday and I did not want to take both drugs all weekend long and was having a bad reaction. No one called me back ....it is now three days after that (the following Monday so 6 days after my Dr. Visit) and still I have not heard anything on my results, which is so negligent when you have somebody taking more drugs than they need and worried that she has something contagious and who is having a bad reaction to the drugs..... and not even the decency to call me back. Worst doctor follow up experience I ever had he didn't seem to really care either when I was in the appointment so was not a fan even before his terrible follow up. read more

I had to issue a formal complaint against Dr. Lin to the medical board. AVOID THIS PLACE! I was referred here because I had to get a skin biopsy, testing for cancer. They told me they'd call me in about a week with my results. No one ever called. I called them DOZENS of times, left many voicemails, spoke with their receptionists and office manager, left messages for Myra and the other nurse, but no one could give me an answer. They just kept giving excuses and telling me "someone will call you back with results." Almost 6 WEEKS after I was supposed to get my results, a receptionist called and said Dr. Lin wants me to make an appointment ASAP. I still had not heard the results of the biopsy, so naturally I was very anxious for the appointment and eager to hear what Dr Lin had to say. He was super late to the appointment. When he got on the video call, he just said "what can I do for you today?" He had clearly not even opened my medical record, and was completely unprepared for the appointment. I explained to him the situation, he took a few minutes to read my medical record, then told me I actually have precancerous growth and I need to go back in for a second biopsy. He did not explain anything else to me and then he ended the call. I got in touch with their office manager Richard (I think that's his title?) and I explained to him the horrible experience. Richard apologized and told me that Dr. Lin was supposed to have given me a treatment plan for my precancerous diagnosis. Richard gave me my follow-up instructions and apologized profusely. I was told that the first biopsy had not removed all of the precancerous growth, so I need a second biopsy. Because of my insurance, I had to get the second biopsy at this office too (unfortunately). Again, no one called me with test results. I had to bother them everyday and again leave multiple voicemails before anyone got back to me. Dr. Lin also lied to me about the pathologist they use for biopsies (I was told it would be a dermatopathologist, but at my last appointment I was told otherwise). When it's precancerous growth, it is (obviously) recommended to have it removed right away. Because of Dr. Lin's negligence, I had to wait 6 weeks. It should not be a struggle for a patient to get their test results. I shouldn't have to beg receptionists for 6 weeks to learn whether or not I have cancer. read more

I spent an exorbitant amount of money for several Fraxal laser treatment at Dr Lin's office after seeing firsthand the amazing results my friends experienced with other doctors in other cities. My results were actually worse skin. I waited two months after the last procedure to see if the skin would get better and still it showed no improvement. When I showed my results to the doctor he told me it was my skin's fault and then tried to upsell me other procedures at prices 5 times the normal going rate. HORRIBLE I DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS OFFICE TO ANYONE Scam artists. Went in for a biopsy and also to help with a rash on daughter's face. Walked into a jam packed FILTHY office (during COVID-19) , Waited a long time, saw a nurse who cut the growth off to 'biopsy' and was going to prescribe daughter a topical prescription (but forgot to give me or call in the RX), offered me Botox at $18 per unit to do 'right now', never heard from the office again about biopsy... one month later I called them MULTIPLE TOMES to get results. Their claim 'nothing's in your file, wait til next week and we will call you.' October was when I was there and now 2 MONTHS later, they still 'don't have the results.' The final straw was when I phoned in yesterday and the woman said she would check my results and put me on hold FOREVER... then it transferred me to only a line that 'rung' (no one picks up. I called her back and she repeatedly immediately transferred me to the ringing extension- didn't say Hello, Sorry about that, or anything! So unbelievably unprofessional and rude. Needless to say, two months of waiting, no results... packed office that was dirty, overpriced (their Botox offer -) and lies, deception and incompetence by EVERYONE AT THEIR OFFICE... I will never go back nor recommend to anyone. This place is a 'mill' - they are not doctors who care about anyone but lining their own pockets. Just like money, respect has to be earned. But unlike money, you can't get it by being dishonest. This review is long overdue! I hate a dishonest doctor. Thankfully I don't have many. It's hard enough finding a good doctor, but one with integrity is a good start. I originally saw Dr. Lin because I wanted to try some new facial treatments. I asked about peels and other special treatments he provided. He told me about a treatment called The Matrix. He said he would do this service on my face and that it would help my skin look better. He quoted me $400. A few months later I went into his office because I was ready to do The Matrix. On the front desk their was a huge sale sign with all of their deals. It stated The Matrix that was normally $400 was now on sale for $200. When I told the girls I was coming for The Matrix they honored the $200. When the doctor came in to do the procedure he said "I see you only paid $200 but I quoted you $400." He then told me I had to pay the other $200. I asked him about the sale and he told me "well that's because they're not turning up the machine very high." The one for $200 is just lower heat on the face. Really? You're just gonna turn the machine on lower even though it cost you the same money you're going to do a crappy job on people paying less. I don't think so. Later I called and spoke with the office manager. She told me that I should've paid $200 because it's the same exact procedure. So she confirmed to me that the doctor in fact had lied. She doesn't know why they did that to me (she said that in different words of course, but she just said they should've honored the $200 because it's the same treatment). A few weeks later when I called her, she no longer worked there. I wonder why. Also, I bought eye cream from him which was over $100 and it smelled old and rancid. When I told the office they gave me another one but that one also smelled old and rancid. How could they sell expired products?!? This place is disgraceful. Unethical, dishonest, and money hungry is all I can say about Dr Lin. He seems to have a large clientele so I don't know why he is trying to suck every dollar out of his clients. It's pretty sad and I definitely won't be back. NOTE-I posted my review at the Encino and Valencia office, since I have been treated at both locations by Dr. Lin. read more

Upgrading my review because Sunny the PA is really sweet and knowledgeable. She gave me 2 TCA peels and they aren't painful but are a great way to sun damage and pigmentation. The treatments there are really good, but the business administration could really use a make over. read more

Don't ever go to this dermatologist, first it took awhile to make the appt, then you don't see the doctor, it's the PA. They took my $40 copayment, and said the mole to remove cost $100 for 15 moles insurance wouldn't cover it. So I payed out of my own pocket , only started out with removing 4, next time I want to burn more, they won't return my call. This is the shady place, immature staff in the front. I really hate that all of the negative reviews for this office are warranted. This place is called the Skin Cancer center but they're just glorified Botox salespeople. Waited two and a half hours to be seen by a doctor and another 30 minutes for the actual biopsy. Was there for almost three and a half hours for an appointment that should have taken tops of 90 minutes. When I got out there were still people waiting who got there only shortly after I did. wrong with me this would be considered malpractice. They also don't validate parking because apparently poor people don't get skin cancer. This office is an absolute joke. Would never recommend to anyone read more

Highly recommend! Dr. Lin is the best doctor I have ever been to. All the cosmetic procedures I've gotten done here, including but not limited to the removal of a mole on my face that was bothering me, have been procedures handled with deep care and dedication. Even the atmosphere in the office, the customer service and treatment by not just the doctor himself, but also other staff, such as the office receptionist and such. They were all warm and welcoming, and I will 100% recommend him to anybody I know that might need his service, and will definitely stay loyal and keep going back. Checked in on time for my appointment. They asked for a $45 copayment even though my insurance card clearly stated a $25 copayment for specialist. They asked me to wait for 10 minutes so they could check with billing. Not sure who they called. 45 minutes later, they stuck to their guns. I refused to pay and waived the appointment. Last time I was there, I paid a $25 copayment, but declined a receipt. 30 days later I received a bill stating that I did not pay the copayment. After threatening collection. I was forced to pay. I am so blessed to have Dr. Michael Lin as my dermatologist. He has helped me get my palmoplantar psoriasis that is on the palms of my hands and soles of my feet under control, bye using a new state of the art, laser. This along with the proper topical cremes have stop the itching, redness, peeling, and crusting on both my hands and feet. He is the only dermatologist I would ever trust to authorize any laser procedures I need, and his top trained nurses like Joanne and surgical nurse Sunni are specialist in dermatology. Dr. Lin really cares about his patients, and so does his associate, Dr. Christina Ring. His front office staff, in the Sherman Oaks office, just to name a few, such as: Eugene, Lucy, Monica, Jasmine, Isa, Mariel, Michelle, Luisa, Mayra and Melissa, go out of their way to make sure that you get the appointments and authorizations you need for your special treatments. Richard the office manager always has a smile on his face and is ready to assist with office issues. This review is for the office, not any doctor. I made an appointment with the wife (ophthalmologist) for my daughter, they're apparently in the same office. I was asked for my email address, so I gave my good email (not the one I use to get spam/for mailing lists). I was immediately signed up for Michael Lin's mailing list for Botox and injectables. I emailed the office and let them know that this was unprofessional to use the email I gave for the ophthalmologist to spam me with Botox ads without my consent. They said it was an error and apologized. 3 months later, in October 2020, they used my email and signed me up to their mailing list again. I let them know and they apologized once again and confirmed I'd been removed. Fast forward to now, February 2022 and I'm still getting emails after requesting multiple times to be taken off their list, that they used and shared from Jennifer Lin's practice to Michael Lin's practice without my consent read more
