My experience with OP Smiles was frustrating and unsatisfactory. At almost 50 and having always…read morewanted a beautiful smile, I invested $6,800 and two years of my time hoping to achieve straight teeth. However, several issues left me needing braces again. One of my primary concerns was the abrupt dismissal from treatment. A casual comment I made during a discussion with my orthodontist about my alignment goals was apparently misunderstood as my acceptance of my teeth's current state. After two years of clear aligners, we discussed my options. My doctor and I agreed a cosmetic dentistry consultation was in order. I was then to return and continue aligners or be fitted for final retainers. After a dental consultation, I decided to continue with my treatment plan with aligners. But when I returned for my next appointment after the agreed-upon consultation with my dentist, I was informed that I needed braces. To my dismay, the doctor told me I would be fully charged for a new treatment plan. This sudden change in direction left me feeling misled and shocked, as I thought a few more aligners would finish the job. I also found discrepancies when comparing my treatment records with those of my son, who was also a patient of OP Smiles. His records indicated a "final visit," a "Post Treatment Summary," and final photos, whereas mine did not. He also received a retainer, as is customary at a final visit. This lack of a final visit is why I believed I was still under a treatment plan. When I asked the staff at OP Smiles to contact my doctor they said that he had retired and was unreachable. My treatment plan was initially estimated to take 16 months, but it stretched over two years without achieving the expected results. This significant delay disrupted my plans and left me frustrated and unsure about the effectiveness of the recommended treatment. I was not informed about the additional components of the treatment process. I was surprised to discover that in addition to the clear aligners, I had attachments, hooks, and rubber bands that I needed to wear for over a year. These extra parts and pieces were unexpected, uncomfortable, and quite noticeable. The lack of transparency in explaining the full scope of the treatment left me unprepared for what I was signing up for and added to the discomfort I experienced during my orthodontic treatment. I caution anyone considering them for orthodontic treatment to be aware of these issues and potential challenges. Based on my experience, I cannot recommend OP Smiles. . Instead of leaving with a beautiful smile, my experience with OP Smiles was misunderstandings, inadequate record-keeping, and scheduling challenges. I am in a position where I still require braces to achieve the desired outcome. I recommend that anyone considering this practice be extremely clear and cautious in their communication, as a seemingly innocuous comment can prematurely end your treatment plan.

I consistently wait 20-40 minutes for my kid's appt and then I have no idea what is going on since they are too busy to inform me after seeing my son for 2 minutes. I wish they took more time to actually get to know their patients.

This is a tightly-run ship, for filing many youth through the ritual of "teenage braces."…read more The first visit is "free." You fill out paperwork in-office, since although they have a web site, they do not provide the ability to print and complete ahead of time. So, they could get with the times a bit more, with that, but their forms aren't too lengthy, so it only took about 5 minutes in the waiting room. They then take you back, put your kiddo in a chair, and do a cursory look, to determine if your child needs braces, and what approach they would take. But really, there is enough of a glance to see how severe or moderate the issues are, and Dr. Small knows what he's doing, so not a huge ordeal. At the end, they will say, "about (fill in the blank) years... about (fill in the blank) dollars." Then you can decide if you will come back, pay an up-front cash fee (in our case about $200), and get X-rays and molds made. A very nice feature is that they will take the dollar amount your insurance doesn't cover, and break that cost over the course of months of treatment, as in-house financing. So, the pain of $5000, less insurance, can be spread over approximately 2 years. They file "most insurance," so you likely won't have an issue.

During the time of my daughters treatment process, Dr.Garlitz brought in Dr. Ben Campbell. Dr. Campbell took over my daughters care as Dr.Garlitz was retiring, and the transition has been completely smooth. Dr. Campbell, without fail, has come out to speak to me at each and every appointment to discuss my daughters progress and the next steps. He has gone above and beyond what I would have expected in service, and at the end of her treatment, he surprised her by taking off her braces right on the spot so that she could have a beautiful smile for her upcoming camp that she was so excited about! Needless to say my daughter was in tears. Now we get to start another child, and I have total faith that he will continue to give this specific attention to detail that will result in yet another beautiful smile in our family!
