I've been coming to Michael for several years now and he's always done a outstanding and efficient job! If you're looking for someone to do your taxes that knows what they are doing and is proficient in all aspects then you've found the guy! Michael always greets you with a smile, his office staff is friendly and helpful as well. He's usually able to find those missed areas that you forget about and get you the most out of your return! Price wise he is definitely worth it! He always charges a acceptable amount for what he does and you never walk away feeling you got taken. Tip: He gets booked pretty fast so make sure you book early if you want an appointment. I've been going to Michael for taxes since 1993 or so, and I've recommend heaps of people to him. Michael makes an unpleasant thing like taxes so much less annoying with his banter and wit, through lean times and good. I've known Michael long enough where he's become more family friend than just my accountant, and I always enjoy seeing him. His wife Linda is a gem too, a real straight-shooter after my own heart from the east coast (where I'm from), and she's always a pleasure. I guess that's how I am, so I enjoy this trait in others. Michael's returns are always professionally presented and sent off in a timely manner, and he's helped me with extensions sometimes when I've been too busy with life to do it myself. He also makes use of the latest tech to do paperless returns where possible, which I applaud and support. Michael is a great accountant, but also a genuine person with a penchant for humor and banter. Despite his conservative politics (a source of fun verbal jousting), he's got a special place in my little classical liberal heart. Don't let that put you off if you're not a conservative though....Michael is as likable as anyone and he won't immediately tell you you're wrong if you're a liberal. The lies go on and on! 13 years after.. I still am harmed by Linda Horowitz and Michael Horowitz. Make sure you read the 1 star reviews because that is the truth! Liars! I am still finding out the viciousness of Linda Horowitz, lol, his secretary? No! She has n o problem lying to her, then husband, or were they in cahoots She lied to the IRS and said I was not available for my meeting and told them to close my case!! I was audited in 200? and Michael told me.."Don't worry, it takes time to hear from the IRS! I had never been audited before. He in formed me NOT TO PAY ANYTHING TO THE IRS.. AFTER OUR MEETING I WOULDN'T OWE ANYTHING AND DO NOT PAY THE FRANCHISE TAX BOARD. Every year he would do my taxes and say DON'T WORRY After 7 years, I contacted a frim that investigated the situation and that's where I saw with my own eyes that LINDA HOROWITZ had told the IRS..SHE ISNT AVAILABLE FOR OUR MEETING, CLOSE THE CASE! WITHOUT ME KNOWING!!! can u imagine how much money in penalties and interest I owed to both the IRS AND FRANCHISE TAX BOARD? I paid until 2020 and just got release! NOW I AM 66 years old and want to retire. At the social security office they gave me a read out of my earnings. Guess who didnt file my income to the IRS in 2010? YUP! HAVE YOU EXPERIENCED LINDA PUTTING A STAMP ON THE TAX RETURN AND SHE IS GOING TO MAIL IT?? 15 YEARS LATER AND SHE IS STILL CAUSING ME FINANCIAL LOSS AND THE O THER REVIEWS THAT STATE HOW MEAN SHE IS AND SHE HANGS UP ON THEM? A few years ago I put a post on facebook looking for an accountant. I had dozens of replies but four friends that didn't know each other all recommended Michael so he was the winner. This was the first year I went to Michael after 7 years with my previous accountant. He was amazing. As soon as I walked in the door I was made to feel at ease by him and his wife Linda (important when seeing a new accountant at tax time). Michael explained that he was going to do things a bit differently than my previous accountant, but not to worry. He let me know what he was doing every step of the way and the results were quite pleasing (made me wish I had switched previously). The added bonus was the casual conversation. Anytime you can walk out of your accountant's office laughing and with a smile on your face, that's a good thing. I found Michael two years ago after thoroughly researching/interviewing new people to do my taxes - he came highly recommended by a colleague. I got a really good feeling about him and his office personally and professionally so brought him my taxes. Very happy with his services so this year I had him do my business taxes and a joint return since I got married. Again, very happy with the results. But it's about more than just the bottom line. People are treated as valued clients rather than data entries in an appointment book and I truly believe Michael spent the time necessary to get me the best returns possible rather than just plugging my numbers into a computer and spitting out the results. BEWARE: They botched my amended return, refused to refund my payment for service not rendered and didn't at least offer an apology. I filed an amended return with them 3 years ago. After countless emails and them trying to correct their errors I'm left with no return, hours lost trying to get a straight answer and all at a cost of $150...which I'm still out as well. When I contacted them they always said it was the IRS fault and to wait patiently. After 3 years I don't know how patient they expect someone to be. They refuse to admit their error even after I provided proof to them. When I asked for a refund they coldly turned me away basically saying I was out of luck. I understand I'm probably not their biggest client but that shouldn't matter. If you take money for a service and don't provide that service you should take care of your customer no matter who they are. They very nice when taking your money for a simple return but if anything goes wrong you're on your own. BEWARE!! Update: Education credit was an error made by this office. When proof of their error was provided to them they still refused to issue a refund. The university in question is a Cal State University. I've been reading over the poor reviews and sadden that people can't own up to what they try and do to be shady then blame on Michael when clearly he is there to help them. I would say Michael is a solid 2.5 stars but the wife calling me, speaking over me, and hanging up on me clinches a 1 star review. For a few years Michael filed my returns. He also advised me to not incorporate..then the following year said "woops, yeah should have incorporated your contracting business -would have saved you 15k in taxes owed...oopsy." Ive had spotty and down right sloppy quotes and correspondence. 3 years ago I was told they filed for an extension for me but the IRS has no record of it at all.(another fee) I now have a huge tax liability... Wow, I am not really sure where to even begin. I typically do not write reviews all that often unless I feel it is very much warranted. However, I met with Michael for the first time yesterday evening, and I was so impressed and overjoyed (seriously, who gets overjoyed from meeting with their accountant), that I felt compelled to write this review the very next morning. You see, I had another accountant that I used for several years. After some unfortunate experiences, I realized it was time for change and I was referred to Michael by a friend. Let me say this - I came home after my meeting with Michael and told my wife that this was the best decision we ever made. Quite frankly, I was a bit concerned before meeting with Michael given my past tax experiences and the fact that I had to drive quite a bit to get to him since I work in the Pasadena area (and we all know L.A. traffic isn't great). Looking back, I would drive twice the distance just to meet with Michael. First, the office environment makes you feel at ease and welcome. Almost like family. They are super friendly and conversational. Who would ever think a tax appointment could fly by so quickly! Second, the price I paid for his services was completely fair and reasonable. Third, not only is he very intelligent (which you can tell by the way he processes things and just seems to get it immediately despite my blabbering), but he also takes the time to explain things clearly and in a way that you can understand so you're not in the dark. Last, but certainly not least, he was able to get me a great refund which helps greatly to lift the financial burden and pressure off my shoulders. Obviously there's no guarantee for anyone on what you might owe or what refund you'll get, but I feel completely comfortable and confident in saying that Michael inquired into every last detail in order to do my taxes in the most accurate way possible. Thank you Michael. The one thing I can guarantee to anyone is that you will be happy you engaged Michael to do your taxes. If you're not already using him, give him a call. Again, I am not typically so impressed by individuals so as to give them such a ringing endorsement, but I could not be any happier with my experience with Michael.
