The ticket price, though, is about half that you'd pay at the Arts Club. The company is mostly volunteer-run and often selects more off-beat productions. The intermission concession is my favorite in town: grab a pack of Rolos and a coffee for $2. (When eaten together it's kind of like a caramel chocolate latté. Okay, I'm stretching.) The chairs here could use a refurbishing, which is where the hit-or-miss comes into play. A 90-minute show in an uncomfortable chair is okay, but edge over that 2-hour mark and nothing can save that show for me. The world needs far more people with the ability to eliminate the unnecessary. I guess I'd best stop there.

This neighbourhood is were the Olympic athletes stayed back in 2010, when Vancouver hosted the Winter Olympics. The theatre holds up to 250 people & was opened in 2015. Meet me at Vie's, tells the story of the iconic Vie's Chicken & Steakhouse restaurant, formerly located on Union St @ Main in Chinatown. In fact if you go there now, you can still see a shell of the building. The rich history of this restaurant is mind boggling. Nora Hendrix, grandmother to Jimi, worked in the kitchen. In fact Jimi would come up to Vancouver from Seattle in the summers. The who's who of entertainment back in the day, passed through here for a meal & to hangout. Lena Horne, Sammy Davis Jr, Dizzy Gillespie, Louie Armstrong, Nat King Cole, Billie Holiday, Duke Ellington, Ella Fitzgerald & so many more. Meet me at Vie's, starred Krystle Dos Santos, Dawn Pemberton, Chris Davis & Steve Charles. The music, songs & singing, were all performed in an outstanding show. They all delivered a solid strong performance in taking us back in time to Vie's. The theatre is sparkling new, seating comfortable & up close to the stage. The AC is excellent - great climate control. Keep in mind that although they do sell drinks here, the selection for cocktails & beer is very limited. As well, food is nada. You're better off eating & drinking at one of several bars & restaurants in the area before taking in a performance here. A great venue close to popular False Creek - a gem in downtown Vancouver.

The lounge area wasn't big, but it had popcorn, drinks and some standing area. What I really like was the inside seating area. The seats were super comfortable and because the theatre wasn't huge, wherever you sat was basically a front row view of the theatre. I really like the intimate and cozy feel. What was also great was at the end, you can sill have drinks and chat about the play in the lounge area. This theatre is in the heart of Olympic Village so you can have dinner or a nice walk before the show. Parking is limited to metered street parking unless you park pretty far away. An alternative is to take the skytrain to the theatre.

Pro tips: Arrive earlier and enjoy the rose garden. They've got some very unique dahlias as well. Don't be afraid to get a close seat since the stage is raised and a bit further away. We opted for further back and more centered but the stage became tiny. Get tickets during the Celebration of Light and you'd get two show in one. Plus the preshows. (It's more of a side view compared to English Bay but less crowded although I swear traffic is almost as congested getting out of downtown )

She was absolutely spot on and our group of four had a wonderful evening seeing "We Will Rock You" and even got to sing-along without getting kicked out! Fantastic venue, beautiful setting, fun show and helpful staff. Some tips: Parking/Bus: Two pay parking spots near Malkin Bowl. The bus loops is also nearby within a 5-minute walk. Food: You can bring your own picnic and have dinner outside in the lovely little garden or inside the theatre on the grass area or at your seat. Their Café inside offers hot dogs, popcorn, cold/hot drinks and beer/wine. At intermission, the bar/café was busy so plan ahead and pre-order your drinks. Venue: Ticket prices were reasonable - cost more for the front and less for the back. We sat at the back and enjoyed equally. Big plastic lawn chairs to sit. If you find the chairs too hard on your bottoms, you rent seat cushions by donation. I just sat on my blanket and that helped. As the chairs are outside, they can be dusty so bring a cloth to wipe before you sit down. Portable toilets inside the theatre's ground but if you want "real" washrooms they are located a minute walk off the site at the Stanley Park Dining Pavilion. Bring bug spray as there mosquitos around. Best to apply before the show starts. Being additional layers to keep warm. Once the sun goes down it can get chilly.

I paid my first visit to the Benie Legge Theatre to watch a Vagabond Players production in the late…read moresummer/early fall of 2022. Tucked away in a corner of Queen's Park in New Westminster, I had no clue this theatre even existed until a friend promoted the play (and the theatre). There is the main parking area close by, or if you know your way around Queen's Park, you can park in the lanes right next to the theatre. There are just over 100 seats, and as soon as you walk in you will feel the building infused with character and history. (If you had any doubt, the numerous pictures on the wall will give you a hint about the rich history). There is a small lobby area, concession stand, and surprisingly roomy washrooms (a plus!) As I understand it, the concession stand and other roles during play productions are all staffed by volunteers who are members of Vagabond Players. I had never known this theatre existed, but now I will keep an active eye out for future productions.

It is charming and full of history, if only the walls could talk. It reminded me of pantomime plays performed in small town theater in Enid Blyton's books. Being a small place, you can still see the performers clearly even if you are sitting at the back. I hope this place will remain open and be home to performances in the new west area.

What a terrific theater venue!…read more My friend and I recently attended a show here and I was so impressed. I loved how there were tons of free parking spots available on the street. How refreshing, not being gauged in a parking lot by a theater, eh? Then there was the theater itself. It's large and clean, with lovely artwork on the walls in the spacious lobby. Plenty of large, clean bathrooms with lots of stalls. Multiple access doors to the actual theater room with over 600 seats, and the seats themselves are quite comfortable. Great view of the stage from all angles, and terrific lighting and acoustics, too. Staff working the night I visited here were fabulous, too: from the guy working the "will call" counter to the ladies taking our tickets at the entrance to the folks at the theater door thresholds who directed us to our sections - everyone was friendly and helpful. We liked that there was a good selection of foods and drinks for sale, too (even a craft brewery stand, selling it's wares! I should note we were at a show with an age requirement 19+. I'm not sure if alcoholic beverages are always available here). I heartily recommend this theater, if you have an opportunity to see a show here, do it!

A friend invited me to the North Shore Celtic Ensemble at Centennial Theatre and they were amazing…read more Definitelyooking forward to seeing them perform again. Now, as for the theatre, it was nice but there wasn't any concessions open pre show to even get a bottle of water. It was so cramped in there and I had to put up with the back of the seats being kicked throughout the entire performance. Add to that a young kid had a meltdown right behind me and the adults were laughing. It completely interrupted the concert. Maybe it's covid restrictions or maybe the crowd but it wasn't a wonderful experience.

We attended Silent Movie Mondays at the Orpheum and watched It (1927) starring Clara Bow, the first…read more"It" girl. She falls in love with the wealthy handsome owner of the department store where she works. The quality of "It" is being attractive and confident. I can't believe it was released almost a hundred years ago. There was a pre-show jazz performance by the Gatsby Strutters Jazz Band and a lecture about the roaring 20s and Clara Bow's life given by Vancouver Film School's Keith Blackmore. The lecture gave us historical context for the film. This is the first black and white silent movie we have ever watched and it was more entertaining than expected. It's a comedy and the entire audience was laughing out loud. The soundtrack to the film was performed by organist Michael Dirk on the the Orpheum's original 1927 Wurlitzer organ. The music they picked paired very well with the film and added a lot of entertainment value. After the show, there was a fashion show and talk held by fashion historian Ivan Sayers. They brought out a few models decked in flapper era clothing such as loose dresses with a low waistline, tight fitting hats, feathers, sequinned gowns, fans and capes. It was a very unique and educational experience. Definitely an event I would go to again. I have seen other Silent Movie Mondays have more instruments playing, like the violin, cello, oboe, saxophone. That would have enhanced the experience.

It is dated, however I feel it's design choices is impeccable for what the venue serves. Those doors don't creek, audience lighting is "mood". Those carpets and walls dampen most footsteps even in-between works. The staff are very professional and not cranky. Bathroom located both on the upper floor and main floors. Those taps in the bathroom does remind one of British influences. Bar area is efficient and snack choices are perfectly non offensive in terms of scents, esp for intermission noshings. Would love to see decaf coffee on the menu as most shows are mid afternoon or evenings. Makes no sense to not have decaf as an option. Also, enforce no metal water bottles in the music hall. There is always one (or more) getting dropped or accidentally kicked in the middle of a work. There are ways to prevent it and I would respect more venues having a stricter code.

Ballets, musicals, and conference talks are where the theatre truly excels. The acoustics and size of the space strike the right balance, holding just enough attention and gravitas to follow the plot without distraction. The rare times I've attended an instrumental recital -- particularly piano, without amplification -- the sound has felt a touch flat, lacking the resonance one might hope for. Overall, it's a comfortable venue for patrons. The seats are generous, and there's usually coat check and convenient nearby parking garages, which make the experience smooth from start to finish.
