I don't typically write reviews for service providers, but I've received enough request for dentist recommendations that I thought I'd put it in writing. I can't say enough great things about Dr. Fong! I initially learned of him through a friend and started seeing him in the late 90's and have always been extremely happy with him and his office staff (see details below). After returning to Bay Area (after several years of being away), I immediately sought him out and was relieved he was still located in Mountain View. AWESOME CUSTOMER SERVICE: Dr. Fong and his staff are extremely considerate and flexible when needed. Dr. Fong and his staff always take the time to explain what they are doing or what the options are. I'm the type of patient that likes to know the details and they have always been extremely patient while explaining things. From a scheduling perspective, they are awesome about trying to work around a patient's schedule. On occasion, I have had to make changes to my appointment times and/or only had a small window of time on a particular day free. Janet (their office manager) has even gone as far as to call another patient to see if they were willing to switch time slots with me! Now THAT IS SERVICE! STAYS CURRENT: Dr. Fong stays current with the most modern techniques. Over the course of the last 15 years I've had all sorts of procedures done (e.g., crowns, cavity fillings, etc.) As new, better technology has been developed, Dr. Fong has used them. He doesn't use the new technology for new technology sake, he uses them for all the right reasons (e.g., because they are stronger, longer-lasting materials, etc.). CUSTOMER COST-CONSCIOUS: Like most patients, it's important that my dentist doesn't recommend unnecessary procedures. Dr. Fong is actually very transparent about procedures and NEVER pressures me about doing anything. He lays out the options and also lets me know what changes, if any, there would be if a certain procedure is pushed out into the future. He always addresses my concerns and patiently answers my questions regarding options in procedures. EXCELLENT PAIN MANAGEMENT: If you're like me, I have an extreme fear of pain...especially dental pain! I found out I have an accessory nerve in my mouth that most people don't have. Dr. Fong has been very cognizant of it and has helped managed my pain step-by-step during procedures (4 separate crown procedures!) I have absolutely no complaints! Dr Mike Fong was recommended to me by my close friends. I was looking for a new dentist and I have heard many bad stories about scrupulous ones. Dr Fong is not bad at all. I called his office and was able to schedule an appointment right away. Once I got in, Dr. Fong did a full dental exam on me. I did not have any cavities, which was great news, but he did tell me I needed to floss better. :) What I really wanted to share and liked about my experience with Dr. Fong is his staff is the friendliest I have ever come across. Normally, dentist administrators give you the cold shoulder but they were so nice and professional. It helped make my experience a good one. I have to admit I was a little nervous at first when I had to go on a search for a new dentist. I spoke to a couple of my friends, one from Palo Alto and another from San Jose, and coincidentally they recommended Michael Fong for both adults and children. I called and set an appointment and from the moment. Once I showed up at his office, his entire staff was friendly, warm and very courteous! It was completely opposite from what I experienced with my prior dentist. Most dentists, from my experience and research, treat you like a number, almost like cattle, get you in an out, and forget your name at times. Not Michael, he is absolutely the best dentist I have ever met and his work is great! Before I was referred to Dr. Fong by my girlfriend, I was going to a"so called" dental clinic for my dental care. When I called to make an appointment I was pleasantly surprised that I was able to speak with a receptionist immediately and was able to find an appointment that fit my schedule. After communicating with Anthem BC the reason was actually with them but not the staff at Dr Fong. it was the insurance they sold us which I thought we had was not actually bought for us, but for other kids in California. Anthem BS was deceiving in which they made you felt like you had coverage but you actually don't. Called Anthem BC about issue they said they have many similar complaints and recommended to file an official complaint with them. I've been seeing Dr. Fong since I was a little girl and I followed my parents to the dentist. Now I'm in college, and I'm still with him. I remember him giving me paper airplanes to play with and how friendly he was. I have honestly never been scared of going to the dentist, and I think it's because of Dr. Fong's friendly, patient, and kind personality. Now I'm in college and in attempt to take care of myself, I worry a lot about my teeth, which need to last me a lifetime. Every time I see Dr. Fong I feel 100% comfortable asking any questions I have about my teeth, what kind of toothpaste I need to get, or if it's necessary for me to get any work done. And I don't think it's because I grew up in his care. He always gives you his honest opinion on what he believes will be best for your teeth, and what would be a good use of your money. Let me say that there was a short time I tried out another dentist since she was just across the street from me...and that was the WORST experience I have EVER had! I can imagine hating the dentist being in the care of this woman...This woman tried to milk my family for money telling me I had TEN cavities, which I clearly did not. She also pretended to give me a "white colored" cavity filling, which, never appeared. Very quickly after that we rushed back to Dr. Fong, our minds were eased (we checked for those "ten cavities")...and never returned to her. Also! Not only have my parents and I trusted him with our teeth for almost a decade, but we have given him countless recommendations within our family! Several of my aunts and cousins have been in his service and there has never been a bad review of his expertise. He is very mellow and kind, and incredibly laid-back about dental procedures--he would never try to up-sell you anything you didn't need. As an avid softball player, one should not dismiss the dentist selection process. I was surprised to learn that so many of my softball teammates were clients of Dr. Fong, including those that live in the North peninsula or SF. I had always find a reason to avoid his practice, location, familiarity with other dentists, but when my current dentist switched practices, I finally decided to make the trip to see Dr. Fong and I don't think I will be looking for another dentist anytime soon. He quickly and acutely diagnosed my problem and offered me an array of solutions. He also brought to my attention potential issues without trying to upsell me something I could live without. Dr. Fong is a very dedicated and caring doctor. Most teeth work besides cleaning is done by Dr. Fong. I had a few crowns performed by Dr. Fong. He is one of the few dentist that can inject the anesthetic needle without you feeling a thing. It is still tense while getting the needle but it is good to know you most likely will not feel anything. read more

I have been a patient of Dr. Fong's for almost 20 years. Prior to seeing Dr. Fong I had the biggest fear of dentists (since childhood having to go see a "hack" in Oakland and so much fear that I use to take fillings without Novocaine). Dr. Fong is patient, courteous, compassionate and most of all has the highest level of integrity. Over the last 20 years I have had many many friends and family (including wife, kids, in-laws, parents, employees, etc..) come to see Dr. Fong when they have had issues with other dentists. Dr. Fong will always explain, in detail, what the options are. It pains me to see when a negative comment about Dr Fong is written regarding a patient's insurance policy. Of course as a dentist, Dr Fong accepts many forms of insurance. It is the patient's responsibility to understand what their insurance provider covers/doesn't cover. If there is a mis-understanding, the question should be to the insurance company (or to their company's HR benefits department), To assign "blame" to any medical professional is unfair unless they are intentionally trying to "sell" you unwanted or unneeded services. This has never been the case with Dr. Fong. All of the referrals I have made have stayed with him (except for re-locations). I even have former employees that will fly-in from other states to see Dr. Fong. read more

I am deathly afraid of the dentist a Novocaine needles. Due to that fear and a lack of dental insurance I've neglected my teeth and now have had some work that needs to be fixed. I found Doctor Fong through 1-800-Dentist. The staff is wonderfully friendly and attentive. One day I had neglected to eat and became faint. Despite the fact that my ride was there the staff sat me down and made me eat some crackers and juice until there were sure that I wasn't going to faint. A dental staff has never even come close to this before. Dr. Fong and his hygienist were very understanding about my fears and anxieties. I explained my fear of needles and how past dentists have been careless with the Novocaine and I've had to endure up to three shots to numb one small area. Never with Dr. Fong. He is very careful and precise with the shots. Only one small complaint, they don't do procedures involving root canals and pulling teeth like my last dentist. However they do have places within a very short walking distance and often they will call ahead and can get you in right away. Sometimes their staff members will even walk you over. I would definitely recommend Doctor Fong to anyone looking for a good dentists who cares more about his patients than the bottom line. read more

very very rude front office and too chatty hygienist . the front office lady is really nasty and she dint help a bit . its her job to find out how much is covered in my insurance and dint let me know and that chatty hygienist kept doing stuff in my mouth so i cant talk and then i get a bill of 500$. WTH !!! i went to this dentist just because he has all 5 stars. now i think its misleading . it was nothing like what the ppl tell you here .. i feel they are paying them to write good review, i dint see the doctor and when he came it was just for less then 5 mis .he did not even greet me . just because my dentist is in burlingame and i moved to mountain view recently i thot i would try a new dentist.. but BEWARE ! dont try him if you already have a good dentist . i will go to burlingame instead . these ppl are only after your insurance money. pathetic customer service and i tell you i am a real person .. so believe me and stay away from this dentist. his equipments are also not that hi-tech as all these ppl here mention. may be they dont know what actual hi-tech dental machines are !!! so they get impressed with the overhead light and the tiny computer monitor they see . its just the most BASIC stuff that all dentists have .. nothing fancy about it. non -co operating staff and over pushy hygienist . they are so cheap that they dont even give the complimentary tooth brush !! BEWARE!!!! I went in to have a root canal done and about a year later I went to another dentist because that same tooth he supposedly fixed started hurting again...so my new dentist took an x ray and it turns out Dr. Fong only drilled my root canal half way and FILLED it!! Who does that! So now its going to cost me twice as much to fix it!!!! I would not recommend him!! read more
