In the end, I proudly purchased several pieces of pottery from different potters, two photographs from different photographers and a greeting card with a watercolor print on the front. I am most excited about a framed photograph of the iconic Sea Foam hotel from photographer Cyndi Goetcheus Sarfan. Sadly, we were pretty disappointed with the actual product we got. When you get the canvas it shows what the image is supposed to look like when it's completed, and it comes with paints. I don't know what I expected but I got a canvas that had a hand drawn, in pencil, horse on it. That's it. With written instructions. Honestly I didn't mind the canvas being hand drawn but please get someone to do a better drawing? I don't know. For $30 each it's just not what i personally expected. I stumbled upon Absolutely Outer Banks a handful of years ago and I was impressed with the selection of locally made arts and crafts. Ever since, this is my go to spot for legitimate and tasteful Outer Banks souvenirs. In addition to locally made items they also have some vintage items and even some new items for sale. One item that this store specializes in is really cool resin windows that are unique and exude happiness. Absolutely Outer Banks has artwork in all mediums and in all price points. They have jewelry, wood signs, candles, prints, glass work, textiles, metal work, etc.  On my most recent visit I enjoyed looking at a vintage pin ball machine and eyeing up the beautiful array of Fiestaware. Loved their yarn bowls, pottery, and jewelry selection. My friend also bought a $50 bag of self-selected discount yarn. We came for the yarn- they have two full rooms dedicated to it, with some nice name brands and quality fibers, some hand dyed locally, others from as far away as Australia. Broad variety of weights, fibers, and colors, almost had everything I was looking for. One thing I might suggest adding to the inventory is some beach-themed drop spindles and some roving (spinning fiber), grown and dyed in NC. We visited twice in the one week of our stay. The guy at the register is somewhat brusque but he's a hoot. The woman in charge of the yarn room was very sweet and helpful. There are two big well behaved shop dogs, but I recommend leaving your own pets at home, they are probably not allowed. All in all, we had a great time shopping and will be back next year- maybe with some of our projects made from the yarns we bought.

Unfortunately, the owner did not teach at a pace for all of us to follow with as you would generally expect when taking a private class. She was not personable and did not have the details that we had coordinated in advance of the class. She was rather negatively opinionated about marijuana which we didn't even bring up yet she capitalizes on by selling such products representing it in her shop. The options are limited compared to other pottery studios that our family has done similar projects at previously. Waited a month for the tracking number for our mugs after emailing and calling with no follow up. After a month of waiting, she got nasty when I said I would soon be reaching out to my credit card company if a tracking number was not provided. Yes the mugs did show up looking as if they were dropped on the floor prior to being fired with shattered glazing. 100% would never do this again here. The first excuse for the delay was that they were too slow to get the mugs fired quickly, the second excuse was that they were too busy to keep up. If you are going to mess up, at least get your story consistent. Honesty is the best policy folks! Owner repeatedly rudely texted me after posting this to advise of additional false shipping information so I am attaching it to show the proof from usps. Seems as though she is trying to use intimidation tactics to keep her reviews at an inaccurate rating. She is quite unprofessional and unkind.
