Dr. Chu and our little miracle just hours after his birth
    Jon Q.

If you are looking for an OB/GYN, you can save a lot of time by stopping now and going with Dr. Chu. Over the last four years, we have struggled with fertility issues, so finding a good OB/GYN was important. Before my wife became Dr. Chu's patient, we bounced between a few OB/GYNs that either lacked in the knowledge or bedside manner department. In 2013, my wife found Dr. Chu and has been thrilled ever since. Long story short, after two years of his support and knowledge, Dr. Chu delivered our son just a few weeks ago. Throughout our journey to start our family, Dr. Chu has been honest, knowledgeable, open, and supportive. When we eventually got pregnant, Dr. Chu really shined. His dedication to patient care was amazing. Every question we had, no matter how small, was answered quickly and respectfully. I don't remember having to wait even a day to hear back from him if my wife had a question or concern. When we went over our birth plan and we encountered something that he thought was unnecessary or didn't agree with, he would voice his opinion but was open to it as long as it didn't put his patient or the baby at risk. At every appointment, we were never rushed out and asked twice if we had any more questions before he left the room. As the husband of the patient, I appreciated Dr. Chu. His always calm demeanor and accessibility went a long way in making my wife's pregnancy go smoothly for me. There is a lot of opportunity to worry during pregnancy, and Dr. Chu kept all of that in line. Luckily, our pregnancy was pretty smooth, and there were only things that we had to stay aware of, but nothing that we had to REALLY worry about. I imagine without Dr. Chu, we would have many unnecessary freak outs. I'll also add that Dr. Chu does have a sense of humor and interacting with him is entertaining. When my wife went into labor, it progressed much faster than expected and the hospital hadn't paged Dr. Chu until after my wife was ready to push. Because he was such a big part of our pregnancy experience, my wife put in the effort and waited for Dr. Chu to arrive. When he got there, he kept her calm and focused, and our son was delivered quickly and easily. After he finished all of the post-delivery stuff and was able to chit chat, Dr. Chu mentioned that on the drive to the delivery room, he couldn't help but reflect on how far we had come since my wife came in for her first appointment in 2013. Before he left the room, he took a few seconds to admire our son and you could tell that he gets a deep sense of satisfaction out his job, which is pretty neat. Again, if he is covered by your health plan, look no further than Dr. Chu. From my wife: I cannot sing Dr. Chu's praises much more than my husband already has. In a nutshell, his calm and empathetic nature made our stressful infertility journey easier, he's very gentle during exams, and he helped me focus less on the what-if's of pregnancy and more on taking care of myself-physically and emotionally. Towards the end of my pregnancy, he was attentive and reassuring, but sent me to the hospital for monitoring when necessary. His calm, but thorough, way of treating patients is one of the reasons I changed insurance companies to continue as his patient. The other is because he trusts his patients to make the best decisions for themselves.

I have constant pelvic pain/sciatica, he spent less than five minutes in the room and didn't even perform a physical exam. When I told him I couldn't walk or sit for extended periods of time without pain/go to work, he just said he 'isn't a spine doctor' and is only an OBGYN. He didn't even offer a referral to a specialist--he just walked out and left me with no medical plan and no path for treatment. On top of that, he is clueless about CA pregnancy disability laws, saying I have to be 24 weeks to get continuous leave which is a lie. Even tho on my leave paperwork he approved intermittent leave and wrote I am unable to sit for long periods of time which my current position at my job has me doing ??? I paid this office a $35 fee to fill out my disability paperwork and they couldn't get the year right writing 2025 on a 2026 claim, and messed up when the leave started which was stated in the packet if they actually read it. I had to drive back up there twice in pain, upset just to get them to fix their own mistakes because they didn't bother to read the forms. They treat mothers like an afterthought. Don't go here go to a doctor and office staff who actually cares. I don't trust them at all. Also I had to wait 30-40 minutes after my appointment actually was schedule for, lol it's funny cause if I would have shown up late they would have told me to reschedule....

I spent my appointment crying and begging for the medical leave paperwork (Alight/FMLA) that I need to protect my job. My employer cannot accommodate my pain, and I am at risk of losing my livelihood. The NP (Christine) flatly refused to help, hiding behind an "office policy" that says they don't sign paperwork until 36 weeks. Not only is this policy a violation of California PDL law, but what she did next was even worse: She falsified my medical record. In my visit notes, she wrote that I "did not desire" a work note. This is a complete lie. I begged for it, and I even went back to the front desk after the appointment to ask a second time, only to be brushed off again. She also ignored my depression screening score of 19 (Severe) and wrote that I had a "normal mood" while I was sitting right in front of her sobbing. If you want a provider who follows the law and documents the truth, stay far away from this office. I had to go to Urgent Care immediately after just to get tests and blood pressure check which was raised because of this office idk if this office was too "busy" or "lazy" to handle correctly.

Five stars all around! *warning* this review does politely mention bodily function so if it's not…read moresomething you want to read, move on, no problem. I was referred to OB/GYN after having persistent lower left quadrant pain (a really nice switchblade effect) that was a serious drag on my energy and well-being for over three years. I had received various potential ideas from well meaning practitioners for why I would be having these pains (ovarian cysts, endometriosis, UTI, interstitial cystitis, pelvic floor issues) and I had clocked more visits than I'd like to admit to urgent care and even several ER visits over the years. The mystery was not getting solved and for mid 2022-23 I was literally working and studying laying down because I couldn't sit for a significant length of time. I'm very grateful for the ER doc who said I needed to see an OB/GYN who could evaluate me for endometriosis. I'm very grateful for the referral to Dr. Graham! I had previously had been a patient of my old gynecologist for 10 years in LA so it's always a bit stressful meeting a new doctor, especially when it's a gynecologist, but Dr. Graham immediately put me at ease. The physical exam was not painful at all. Ladies, we know that there can be a big variation here but Dr. Graham is a total pro. The exam included a pap which when done by inexperienced hands can be excruciating. This was an almost zero pain exam. He also ordered an annual mammogram. He did not want to go right to a laparoscopic surgery for my pain but wanted to try something else first. He had insight that no one else had. He looked at my abdominal CT scan done a few months earlier and suggested since there was a large quantity of stool in the image, that I might have constipation. Because I regularly "went" (but had always struggled in this area since about age 8) I had never mentioned it to a doctor. It was just another problem area that I tried to self-manage. I tried Dr. Graham's suggestion for Miralax used regularly (for regularity) and I began to feel better and with less pain after several weeks. It was nothing short of a miracle after a decade of major struggles and a lifetime of difficulties. There hasn't been a need for further intervention, although I've had a GI referral, a colonoscopy, and follow up for suspected IBS-C with some helpful medication prescribed for cramps. Dr. Graham is the Sherlock Holmes of medicine! I've seen specialists who are so hyper focused on their specialty that they can't see how other parts connect. He has a great mind and a very down to earth way of communication with actionable steps to help. To top it off he was very open to prescribing HRT after I started experiencing major hot flashes this summer. Cue Perimenopause (confirmed with blood work), even though my denial was so strong it took my older sister to give me a reality check that I wasn't just breaking out into sweats dozens of times a day (and night!) because it was hot! I call these tiny pills of estrogen and progesterone my "happy pills"! I had no idea how much I would be helped by Dr. Graham for both a chronic painful condition that had heretofore been undiagnosed, and also with regular gynecological care. Highly recommend!

I've already filed a grievance with Sutter Health Plus, so I hope they truly take some course of action. Dr. Kopf lacks compassion, bedside manner, and seems like she absolutely hates her job. Why even bother to be in a profession where your entire job is to care for people? I had seen another OB at the same office and was diagnosed with a missed miscarriage. She was incredibly compassionate, showed empathy, and even gave me and my husband some time in the room to fully wrap our heads around the news we had just received. Dr. Kopf, on the other hand, seemed like she could not care less. I was given medication to induce the miscarriage at home, but after many, many hours, nothing was happening. So, I called in and gave all of my information and concerns to the triage nurse. When Dr. Kopf first called me, I was on the phone speaking to another physician, so I couldn't answer her. She eventually called me back not long after, which I appreciated. I thanked her for calling back and apologized for missing her first call. She then immediately asks "what do you need?" Umm, excuse me? I was so taken aback because I expected her to confirm whatever she gathered from the triage notes, but it was clear she didn't, nor did she even read up on any notes in my chart. After explaining my situation and my concerns, she showed absolutely zero compassion (every person I've spoken to since my miscarriage has been so incredibly compassionate and even apologized that I have to be going through this). Dr. Kopf? She couldn't give two f#$%s what you're going through. Ultimately, she was of no help, couldn't answer one of my biggest concerns. She sounded so annoyed to be on the phone with me and made all of her answers short, as if she just wanted to be done with the conversation.
