I'm so disappointed to have to write this. Dr. Glafkides was recommended me by another medical professional and his reviews looked good. But my experience could not have been further from my expectations. Long story short, my appointment was completely forgotten. Yes, I received the confirmation email and the forms packet to complete ahead of time, but on the day of my appointment, my short 30-minute consult, the office was locked and dark. After waiting 15 minutes past the appointment time (I called twice and emailed), I called the answering service. They were entirely unhelpful. I asked if they knew what was going on? No. I asked if they could contact anyone? No. Stellar service there. Just when I was moving to leave, at 20 minutes past (of a 30-minute appointment), the doctor came strolling past, holding an armload of dress shirts. He smiled at me quizzically, and I said, "I am your 9 AM." He responded pleasantly that he didn't have a 9 AM, he had a 9:30 AM, and he asked if I was sure. Yup. My appointment was simply forgotten. I know this because after my brief appointment, as I walked out, the 9:30 AM appointment was sitting in the waiting room. To add further insult, I received a voicemail from a staff member at the end of the day stating they had missed me and asked if needed any follow up information. This seemed bizarre to me because during the appointment, the doctor said he would have an estimate and the contact info of a related professional sent to me as follow up. Apparently this was ALSO forgotten. I followed up by email, which, of course, went unanswered. I am not sure if this subpar treatment is due to carelessness, disregard, disorganization, mercenary intentions, or cognitive issues, but frankly, I am not interesting in dealing with any of those when it comes to medical care. I know I am probably not their typical mid-peninsula demographic. And I know the procedure I inquired about is small. On a menu, it would fall under small plates or sides. But does that make me any less worthy as a potential client? Anyway, I added an extra star just because he seemed like a pleasant person, even if scarily forgetful, and he didn't suggest a lot of extra procedures beyond what I was interested in. read more

I wouldn't dream of seeing anyone else! I had my first breast augmentation done by Dr. G when I was 20. I was scared to death to have them done since not a lot of people at that time had them. He ensured that I looked natural and didn't overdo it. After I saw him everyone loved his work and several friends and family went to him for different procedures. All of which were happy with his work. Fast forward 20 years and I finally came back to redo my breasts. Once again, he took great care of me and my breasts look amazing. He goes above and beyond taking care of his patients and making sure they know the details, and feel confident in their decisions. I've never met a doctor who goes out of their way to check on patients post-op with phone calls and in person visits - truly another level of care! The surgery results were better than expected and the scarring is so minimal I was shocked to say the least. His staff is wonderful - Melinda is such a sweet person, and the surgery center he works with as well was phenomenal in sending us home with the necessary instructions and guidance for post-op care. I was highly recommended by my physician, Dr. Damon Lee, to see Dr. Glafkides for surgical removal of something I've had since I was a baby. (procrastination is a jerk ...) Considering I've had this small lump all of my life, I was very nervous and picky when it came to choosing a Dr. Even though Dr. Glafkides was not on my list-of-providers under my insurance, he said he would contact my insurance and make sure I was taken care of. And that he did. I had to have my surgery at the Campus Surgery Center in Daly City (Rm 200) as he required a larger facility for the procedure. (see review of the center for details :P) As nerve-wracking as it seemed, he was always calm and answered any/all my questions. After the surgery, the nurses and other medical professionals (for lack of knowledge...of their titles...) in the room praised him for his precise, clean, and professional work. I saw him for a check up a few days ago and he said I'm healing quickly. His assistant, Karen, is very friendly and helpful. She contacted me periodically to update me on my insurance status and to schedule follow-up appointments. The office is located near Tanforan Mall so if you're like me and carless, you can take Bart to San Bruno and walk through the mall and a few (kinda big) blocks to the office. It's not too bad. The best part is...there's never a long wait to be seen! :) I highly recommend Dr. Glafkides. Considering I could have seen a Dermatologist, I chose Dr. Glafkides because he was much more sensitive and keen on physical aesthetics... (does that make sense? :P) He's a plastic surgeon so he'll make sure you don't look ridiculous... No one could tell I had surgery the days following... He truly is amazing at what he does. I had such an amazing, life changing experience with Dr. Glafkides. He performed my breast reduction right after Christmas. The minute I sat down with Dr. Glafkides. I felt like I was in the presence of an expert - and an extremely warm and genuine expert. He explained the procedure and made it very clear what the outcome would be and what it would not be. He showed me before and after pictures of women with similar builds and breast size to mine, so I could visualize the outcome. Dr. Glafkides and his assistant Melinda were very helpful and made the process of surgery smooth as possible for me, being diagnosed with breast cancer at the age of 32 years old was tough, but Dr. Glafkides and Melinda assured me everything would be ok. I had so much anxiety as my surgery date got closer, they made sure everything was less stressful, and gave me tips on how to prepare for surgery and emailed post surgery tips as well. If I were a headline writer, this post would be called: "Exceptionally Hands-On Care." (Hands ... Hand surgery ... get it?) Was referred to Dr. Glafkides for evaluation of an annoying trigger finger--Google it if you're into the gory details--a few months ago. Five-star rating reflects the quality of his care, helpfulness of his team, and personal attentiveness. He insisted on trying all reasonable conservative treatments before resorting to surgery; he was unusually attentive (calling me at home the evening of surgery just to check on me); his staff accommodated my schedule for all pre and post-op visits. Highly recommend this practice for any hand or plastic surgery issue. read more

My wife saw Dr. Glafkides for a breast reduction. He was terrific in all aspects and she is more than pleased with the results. His work is excellent. Beyond that, though, he communicates well and really cares about his patients. He has a calm, friendly, and comforting bedside manner and my wife was very relaxed throughout the entire process. His communication with me (the husband) was also great. He kept me appraised of her status post-op and included me in the follow up. I have a history of skin cancer and had a bump on my forehead that required a biopsy. I'm not a big fan of needles but Dr. Glafkides was very gentle and made me feel at ease. My finger looked like blooming flower after I dropped 40 lb dumbbell on it. The bone was shuttered in multiple places and the top phalange was split into two parts. The ER doctor told me that I will possibly lose the top of my finger. They were preparing me for anesthesia and possible amputation. It all changed after Dr. Glafkides arrived. From the first contact, I felt like it all going to be fine. He was confident, polite and brought a bit of humor to reduce stress. He immediately started working on my finger. After some magic was done, I was able to go home with my finger in heavy dressing, but still in its place. Healing was not easy, but Dr. Glafkides and his excellent office staff were there for me all the way. I had to have several more visits to his office. We had to do additional surgeries and procedures. I learned how to do dressing changes and promote healing. It's now two months since the accident, my finger is almost back to be functional. It was great to work with Dr. Glafkides and his staff. His work is swift and precise. He understands the patient emotional state and manages it perfectly. His staff was very accommodative. The scheduling was precise, so I never had to wait. Unlike many other offices, they mastered the "secret art" of email and I was able to send pictures of healing in progress to get the course adjustments. I hope that everybody, who reads this, would never need reconstructive surgery. Yet, if you ever need it, you better call Dr. Glafkides. read more

My 9 year old took a bad fall while ice skating which resulted in a visit to the emergency room at Mills Peninsula in Burlingame. Dr. Argand (ER doctor) took one look at the laceration on her chin and determined that she needed to be seen by a plastic surgeon. Dr. Glafkides came to see my daughter. Did a quick assessment of her injury and got right down to business. Like another reviewer had mentioned, his calm, friendly, and comforting mannerism put both me and my daughter at ease. He stitched her up with great efficiency and precision. I am very hopeful that she will heal just fine with minimum scarring. We have a follow-up with Dr. Glafkides in a week and my daughter can't wait to thank him in person as she was too traumatized to speak in the ER (chuckle). Dr. Glafkides is truly fantastic - he works miracles! I got a huge gash on my forehead that required about 40 stitches. I was worried I'd have a frankenstein-like scar on my face, so on the way to the ER, my radiologist friend hooked me up with Dr. Glafkides. Dr. Glafkides came to the ER and did all the stitching and after-care. He was extremely careful, thorough and reassuring, and gave me very detailed instructions for how to minimize potential scarring. His work was so good that most people can't even see the faint little line on my forehead! Given that the gash went from my eyebrow almost all the way up to my hairline, it's amazing that it didn't turn into a nasty scar. Dr. Glafkides is a miracle-worker. My 2 years old got a very deep cut on her lip on Saturday night at around 8 pm. We arrived to the After Hours Pediatrics at around 9pm. I had a cyst on my face for many years. I consulted two dermatologist whose only response was they could remove it but there would be a scar. The cyst was once again become unsightly. My nieces son had a large birth mark on his neck that Dr. Glafkides had removed with excellent results. My niece referred me to Dr. Glafkides and I consulted him. He removed the cyst in such a way that it is hardly noticeable and with time the scar will eventually disappear. Dr. Glafkides is very personable and helpful. I went in to see Dr. Glafkides to get a small lump on my back checked out and he knew right away what it was and was able to take it out within that same appointment in 20 minutes or less. The overall experience was fantastic. The stitches are so small and are very hard to see which is great. I went for a pre-op consult to sign consent forms after having an intial consultation with Dr. Glafkides. During our first appointment Dr. Glafkides informed me that he will need to have an assistant help him during surgery for my breast reduction and that in his experience it is not covered by insurance. I was okay with that. My insurance company approve the breast reduction. During the second appointment, I mentioned to Dr. Glafides that I called my insurance company and asked if they would cover the assistant, and they said yes if he submits the paperwork indicating why it is necessary, so i asked him to submit the paperwork. He said he "will not do that". I asked why, he stated because assistants are not covered by insurance. I told him that my insurance said they may cover it, he then told me that if they do cover it, that it may be at a discounted rate. In response to that, I said I would pay for the assistant out of pocket the required fee and then seek reimbursement from my insurance company myself. This way, the assistant doctor would get paid his full fee and I will be the one dealing with my insurance company so that they would not have to. Dr. Glafkides responded that he did not feel comfortable proceeding with the surgery and did not wish to do it. I was shocked at this response because I have never had a physician refuse to do surgery based on the fact that I may seek reimbursement for out of pocket costs from my insurance company. Based on this conversation, I do not think I would go back to this doctor, Wasted my time and money going to this place. I do not believe they are honest. read more

I had a basal cell in the crease of my nose, and my dermatologist recommended Mohs surgery for removal. The wound, they projected, could be the size of a dime, so I inquired about closure options. When they mentioned plastic surgery, I said "Yes!" and they recommended a few plastic surgeons, including Dr. Glafkides. I had a consultation with Dr. Glafkides, and we instantly made a couple of personal connections. I felt that he cared for me as an individual and understood my concerns. He explained how he would conduct the procedure with the confidence of someone who has been there a thousand times before. The two offices coordinated back-to-back surgeries (Mohs & closure). As it turned out, the Mohs left a 1cm x 1.3cm wound. I was scared by the thought of how my face would look. I cried for the first time in many, many years. I considered not going through with the plastic surgery because I was concerned about the impact of additional incisions. The plastic surgery resulted in about 3" worth of incisions and as many as 25 stitches. Two weeks later, the stitches were removed, and I returned to work. Unless, I pointed it out, no one noticed a thing. Today, six-weeks post-surgery, there is no visible sign of the wound, and the internal healing improves with each week. I cannot recommend Dr. Glafkides highly enough. I would have zero fear of going through something like this again in the future. read more

I had six procedures done by Dr. Glafkides all at the same time. They were done so poorly that I needed reconstructive surgery here in Boston (i no longer live in CA). My eyes wouldn't shut after his surgery, he removed to much of the fat pads from under my eyes, he left me two chemical burns on my left neck and cheek, my nose has collapsed on one side and he also had his tool rip thru the top of my nose causing four4 stitches.. I did have the eyes and nose corrected and my insurance company paid for it all. The hollow eyes and burns I have to live with. The two other procedures he did i will not disclose but I can assure you he didn't do those correctly either. I did seek legal advise but since I was moving back to MA my attorney said it would be very expensive. Please don't ever use this doctor for anything complex. He has wonderful bedside manners. So look out, since his calm, fatherly manner pulls you in. Find someone better... read more
