I underwent breast reconstruction with this surgeon over the course of four surgeries beginning in November 2024..My overall experience was very disappointing. Throughout the process, My surgeries were scheduled,cancelled and repeatedly rescheduled, which created significant stress and disruption. Post-operative care was unreliable, and communication was inconsistent. At times, I felt there was a lack of coordination between the office and the Surgeon leading to confusion and uncertainty about what to expect next. .Dr Griffin stressed that he can always be reached by phone.However over the course of 2 days the office staff insisted that they tried repeatedly and did not hear back from him, stating "he must be in a very remote location" My first surgery was a 3 day stay in the hospital in a great deal of pain.Although the physician was updated through the nurses he never once came to my bedside to make a personal connection for even one minute. This was already a vulnerable and important medical journey for me, and unfortunately the experience felt chaotic. Instead of feeling supported and cared for, I often felt like I was just another transaction rather than a patient going through a complex reconstruction process.I am a Registered Nurse and have worked in many physicians practices.I know what it takes to make a pt feel like they are welcomed,respected and treated as an individual. Near the end of my surgical journey, I expressed my frustration and hurt to one of the cosmetic staff whose name is Marianne.She responded to me in a menacing tone: "Maybe you'd like to go elsewhere for your care" I had hoped for a smoother, more compassionate experience given the nature of these procedures. After mulitple breast reconstruction surgeries that resulted in both implants flipping on a daily basis, I decided to meet with Dr. Griffin. Instead of simply exchanging the implants to a larger size, as had been done by my prior surgeon, Dr. Griffin told me that he could make the breast pockets smaller using internal and external suturing. With smaller breast pockets, he could replace my implants with a smaller size. Since my breast cancer journey started with a reduction/lift that uncovered my cancer, I was very relieved to hear that instead of being bigger than I was originally I could have smaller breasts that did not flip. I am 3 months post op and look and feel great. I look better than I did after my initial reduction/lift!! Who thought recon could look so good?! Dr. Griffin is a genious in the OR and interpersonally is amazing as well. As this was my 4th recon surgery I had almost given up hope, but he took the time to explain how he could provide me with the result I wanted. TW: eating disorder Dr. Griffin is unprofessional, and I do not recommend him. I need a medically necessary breast reduction due to chronic back and neck pain. When I saw him in October he told me to lose weight (I was 240 lbs at the time) and I agreed, but mentioned that due to PCOS and mobility issues it is hard for me to lose weight. Surprisingly, he didn't know what PCOS is! He responded that exercise doesn't matter, it's all about calorie deficit; he joked that I need to "starve" myself. He actually used the word starve! I was so shocked that I didn't say anything in the moment. Not only was this advice was cruel, but it was also dangerous. Starving myself wouldn't make me healthier...following his advice would just result in an eating disorder. He also has no right to give me nutritional advice when he doesn't even know what PCOS is. I ended up ignoring the red flags because of how desperate I was for the surgery. I spent several months trying to get all the paperwork sent over. The front desk ladies were very kind and professional on the phone. Then in January I called them to check for updates on if insurance had made a decision on my claim - and they told me they hadn't contacted my insurance yet, which was confusing to me since they had all the paperwork. She asked me how much I weigh and I said 225, as I've been working hard to lose weight. She then informed me that my BMI is still too high and I had to be 180 lbs before they even contacted insurance! The doctor never told me that number in my consultation, and there I was proud of my weight loss...it really crushed me at the time. It frustrates me that I wasted so many months without this critical information. Thankfully I decided to get a second opinion. I found an amazing female surgeon who informed me that my body weight is totally fine, she understood that PCOS and mobility issues makes weight loss a slower process for me, and said my current weight of 215 (yay I've lost 25 lbs in 6 months!) is completely fine for surgery. Turns out that Dr. Griffin's BMI requirement was HIS preference, not an actual requirement! My new surgeon is empathetic, professional, and her portfolio has even better results than Dr. Griffin's. Dr Griffin performed a nose job for me last December. I did my research (as I am new to the area) and I am glad I paid attention to the reviews. His equipment is state of the art, his staff was more than friendly and professional, he was knowledgeable and very thorough in explaining my options and the procedure. Dr Griffin was recommended by a frd when I learned I needed a mastectomy and breast reconstruction. At our initial consult he spent considerable time with me laying out my reconstruction options and warned me that it typically takes 3-4 surgeries to get it perfect. !!! I told him I wanted just one surgery ideally because of my other chronic medical conditions and I was choosing to have an implant that would be as close to my other noncancerous breast. The day of my mastectomy I had immediate reconstruction. After that my follow up visits felt hurried and infrequent. I started to get capsular contraction and he told me to move around more. I had done the post surgery exercises they advised plus PT and still ended up with a deformed breast much larger than my other breast. I'm now seeing another plastic surgeon at Stanford who will do the reconstruction with a smaller implant, called textured and tear drop, which wasn't even an option originally presented to me by Dr G for better symmetry. In August of 2018 I was diagnosed with breast cancer and subsequently after consultations chose Dr. Griffin to operate on me following a double mastectomy. Dr. Metkus performed the first surgery with Dr. Griffin completing the plastic surgery phase. My case was a little more complicated as I needed to use the latissimus dorsi muscle for the chest area. He is a genius! From the very beginning his staff make me feel welcome and comfortable and the sensitivity I experienced from both the Dr. and staff was like none other. I knew from the beginning that my case required another one or two surgeries and prepared myself accordingly. I was never fearful of the procedures as I felt so confident in the Dr.'s. Dr. Griffin spent so much time with my husband and myself explaining the procedure as well as any complications with much empathy and insight, plus explaining the next surgery in detail, that I really was not fearful and was able to go into surgery with a very positive attitude for my outcome. He took the time to get to know us in such a way that I felt completely at ease with him as my surgeon. I really feel that I had the dream team for this type of surgery. I had the first of two surgeries in October and Dr. Griffin visited me in the hospital every day and made sure I wasn't sent home until really stable and able. I would like to start by saying I have never written a Yelp review; however, given how Dr. Griffin has changed my life and the importance of finding a good doctor for any type of surgery, I thought it was important to share my experience. I was diagnosed with Stage 1 Breast Cancer at the age of 25. I met with multiple doctors at various healthcare providers throughout the Bay Area, but it wasn't until I met Dr. Griffin and Dr. Metkus at Palo Alto Medical Foundation did I feel like my doctors were finally listening to what I wanted. I can't begin to say enough good things about Dr. Griffin. After a breast cancer diagnosis and subsequent double mastectomy, it was a true silver lining to have such a fabulous surgical team. He worked seamlessly with my breast cancer surgeon. His bedside manner is great - and that's hard to find in a surgeon. He truly made me feel at ease and confident in every decision I was making and really guided me with the pluses and minuses of all the options. The only complaint I might have is sometimes you have to wait a bit in his office for the appointment. I've has one or two situations where they've had to reschedule my office appointment because something has come up, but that's surely the nature of the business when you are dealing with mastectomy or non-planned surgeries such as this. I was referred to Dr. Griffin years ago by a friend. I had undergone (cosmetic) surgery by another doctor some years prior to that and was very unhappy with the results. After the first consultation with Dr. Griffin, I knew I was in very capable hands. He is young, which I liked, because he was up on all of the latest techniques, very professional, and he made me feel relaxed. He has a great sense of humor, which I also liked as it helps keep the patient at ease before surgery. Dr. Griffin explains everything he will be doing, before, during and after your surgery. Please stay away from him; you will thank me. I wanted to update the record of Dr Griffin being a below standard HIGH RISK breast surgeon who caused 2 years of suffering and re-surgery because of his low standard of work he performed on me. I have had a Stanford Dr and a expert breast surgery medical records reviewer who both called out the deficiencies of his work on me. Dr. Griffin did such a BAD job on my breast surgeries that I am currently suing Griffin for Malpractice; I have never sued anyone before. It's cost me $2000 to initiate this, but others need to know. Don't be fooled by his 'happy" demeanor; He may be pleasant, but his techniques were poor on me. He is in it for the $$. I endured infection, so much pain, delays, 2 hour waits in his office, no follow-up. My other Dr. had to correct Griffin when he mixed up my meds, increasing the wrong one and decreasing incorrectly the dosage on the other. He sent me home from the hospital without talking to me personally that day. A pain RX was left for me written to a pharmacy that was closed for the evening. I was suffering terribly. We couldn't reach him to correct it. Earlier, the hospital nurses kept arguing that I had no business being sent home as I was in such bad shape. The Hosp admin came in and told me Griffin signed out me early that day, and now no one one could be reached. They wanted me to sign for a $5000. room charge authorization or leave. I left in tears and extreme pain. Things kept getting worse at home. Griffin called me in as an outpatient to remove the smelly, rotting flesh on the weeping open 4"wound on my breast. Following that outpatient procedure, he did not even show up to dismiss me, the nurse told me I could go home. I didn't hear from him for months. I made a decision to get a second opinion as a THIRD operation was still needed according to Griffin. Besides, my breasts didn't match-- ugly job. I went to Stanford. I was told Griffin had used outmoded techniques, surgery was poorly done and the flap was too large to have EVER worked. My breasts were not even on same baseline with one being an inch higher than the other. Totally different sizes. The Stanford doc shook his head and said, 'well, I've seen worse...but...this is bad.' Griffin tried to tell me it went bad cause I rolled on the breast while sleeping-- my fault. Stanford doc ensured me that was not true -- not my fault. So Griffin lied to me to cover his poor quality surgery. I then developed a protruding midsection. I had it diagnosed as a hernia. At Stanford, practically the entire operation had to be redone. In addition, the huge hernia which had developed in my abdomen; I was told it was a direct result of the earlier surgery. Another 32" hip-to-hip scar reopened and all that flesh lifted again. I suffered beyond belief for over 2 years. And, my breasts are full of scars that wouldn't be there if not for Griffin's substandard work. Thank God, Stanford physicians salvaged the surgery. BTW: my condition was entirely "in-situ" and the whole operation was possibly more than needed, I found that out after it all was over. Griffin's office staff was confused and unreliable; and I understand they were replaced ... Too late to help out with my debacle. Don't risk your body on him. He was also ambivalent about my pain levels -- he said that he's had patients in more pain than me... No empathy. Stay away. Not worth the risk. I think it is my duty to other women to relay this. I've been going to Dr Griffin for breast reduction surgery because I have chronic pain issues in my neck so my nuerosurgeon referred me to him. I had to lose weight to have the reduction done. I am almost 60 and had gone through a traumatic time a year ago of losing my husband and my home so losing weight was just one more trauma to be going through. It wasn't easy but he made a deal with me that if I lost 20 lbs that he would do the surgery. After a couple of months I called the office to make an appt and they wouldn't make an appt but instead told me the Dr would call me. After a month of no call, I called back and told them I had not gotten a call back, when I finally got back in, I was treated like a 2nd class citizen and the Dr was making excuses like the surgery would not help my situation. He finally called my neurosurgeon and just said I have to lose more weight. My appts have been cancelled by the office 5 times at the last minute. It was very obvious they didn't want to do my surgery and it was being paid by my insurance. After they cancelled my last appt, I changed Drs but they wasted a whole year of my time.... read more
