He is a wonderful man: articulate, conscientious, caring and intelligent. You can't find a better doctor!

Even those just taking blood/administering infusions and injections. The doctors are extremely thorough and will run every test they can think of to help diagnose the issue. I do believe the quality of care is high but there are definitely areas to be improved on starting with reception.

Also, every time I go, the secretaries tell me that my appointment is a different day/time. EVERY TIME I GO! So then I am left with waiting 1.5 hours for a bus ride home, for I cannot drive. They are unorganized, so I stopped going there and switched to Stony Brook Hospital Hematologists. I first tried seeing Dr. Yelda Nouri. She quickly stated something briefly. Then she rushed me out the door. I tried to ask some questions. She replied in about five words. Then she left the room to make more money by seeing more patients. She does not care about patient's health; works only for money. Dr. Nawaz is brilliant and kind, yet runs 45-60 minutes late. The Patchogue location has poor quality sensors for the water to turn on in the restrooms. The water turned on for only one second, off four seconds; on again for one second; then no more water at all from the faucet. I have never experienced such poor water sensors before. I almost began to bleed caused by so-called blood specialists. They seem to have no idea what causes eczema. My fingers within two minutes became cracked, peeling and almost bleeding from this location. Patients with eczema, beware. In general, NY Cancer and Blood Specialists has some good doctors, some not so good, and the quality of everything else is poor.

I am writing to articulate serious concerns regarding the patient experience at MSK, Harrison,…read morespecifically pertaining to my scheduled appointments with my oncologist and subsequent infusion treatments. As a patient requiring frequent visits for blood work, and critical infusions, the efficiency and comfort of these visits are paramount to my ongoing care and well-being. All my experiences have been consistently characterized by excessively prolonged wait times, often extending two hours or more beyond my scheduled appointment times for both my physician and infusion therapy. This creates a deeply challenging and, frankly, disheartening situation, particularly given the already demanding nature of chemo treatments. A significant source of distress is the perception that patient safety and comfort, particularly for those with weakened immune systems like myself, are not being adequately prioritized. Being confined to crowded waiting areas for extended periods not only exacerbates physical fatigue but also presents a heightened risk of infection. The operational practices observed, such as seemingly pervasive overbooking and the resulting congestion in patient waiting rooms, strongly suggest that the current scheduling system is not effectively managing patient flow or capacity. This systemic inefficiency significantly detracts from the quality of care and transforms what should be a supportive and efficient medical environment into a source of considerable stress and anxiety. I am leaving MSK, Harrison and moving to an environment that is not only medically excellent but also compassionate, respectful of patient time, and prioritizes the safety and comfort of all individuals seeking care....unfortunately, this is not the place.

Compassionate, understanding and goes over and beyond for patient care. I'm really not just saying this, he is truly incredible. Dr. Ian Horkheimer specializes in hematology and medical oncology and is board certified in both. For many years, he has been treating patients in the Little Silver community. Dr. Horkheimer received his medical degree from the University of Wisconsin. He was patient, informative and has a fantastic bedside manner. I was a mess at the time and he looked past it and helped to settle my nerves. As for the staff, you had some good and some bad. Most of the nurses are great. The woman who make the appointments were always helpful as well. Once and a while I had or saw someone else have some trouble with a particular girl at the front desk. I also had some issues with a couple of the woman giving transfusions. For one they would barely introduce themselves and then Im hard to stick and they would make it obvious when they were annoyed. These things make an uncomfortable situation worse. I add this in because no matter how great a doctor is he is only as good as his staff will allow. Overall my experience here was a 7 out of 10 and if I had any problems I would go back without hesitation.
