So as Brian has started venturing into family portraits and wedding photography, it's no surprise that he captures such warm and authentic moments---with people this time---as his subjects. I had the pleasure of being photographed by Brian when I needed a professional head shot for the Improper Bostonian magazine, and my session with him went like this: he found just the right backdrops (and lighting) to shoot against; he made me feel entirely at ease; and he sent half a dozen edited photos over e-mail to me the very night of that shoot, since I needed a photo quickly. Such a pleasure to work with, such an awesome talent. You would be wise to invite him to capture your special day.

KatesEye Photography is Kate Russell Jones, whom I used for my wedding last June. She has many…read moreyears of experience as a professional photojournalist, but I think mine was only the third or fourth wedding she'd ever done. Pro: Kate is very eager to please. For example, the day after my wedding was Father's Day. So at my request, Kate edited and printed a photo of Dad and me going down the aisle, glued it to a card, and hand-delivered it the morning after. She did not charge for this. Pro and Con: Kate is very open to suggestion. This made working with her easy and fun. However, I think a more experienced wedding photographer would say, "I know you don't think you need a shot of the wedding party, but you six stand here and smile anyway. Trust me, you'll want it for your album." Pro: Great candid shots of almost every guest! Kate knows how to take advantage of the moment and its lighting. Con: The large group formal portraits did not turn out well. The main problem was that someone's head would cover half the face behind it. A more experienced wedding photographer would've said, "Move your head to the left." However, doing the group formals on the staircase was my bright idea -- it looks awesome in three dimensions, but there's no natural light and you can only shoot from an unflattering angle. Pro: The less formal (but still not candid) group shots of guests were spectacular. I sent everyone a 4x6 of themselves with their thank-you notes, and I would not be surprised if a few ended up in frames above the fireplace. Pro: Because she is less experienced with weddings, Kate charges half as much as other professional wedding photographers in the Boston area. While I imagine the price will rise after she does more weddings, I was able to hire her for less than a thousand dollars. Overall, I am very satisfied with this photographer.

Kate did an amazing job photographing my wedding in NH in October '09 and I would not hesitate to…read morerecommend her. What my husband and I loved most about Kate's photographs was how she managed to beautifully capture the spirit and energy of our ceremony and reception. Kate has a photojournalist background and does an excellent job creating natural candids documenting the wedding as in unfolds (though she does take the formal posed photos too, if that's what you want). The reception went by so fast, so it was awesome to be able to go through Kate's pictures after and relive those special, little moments we had forgotten. She also does a great job of taking advantage of the setting and natural lighting and focusing on small details other might miss to create unusual, inspired shots, while remaining completely professional and unobtrusive. I highly recommend Kate to anyone who wants natural, photojournalist-style photographs. Full Disclosure: I have been friends with Kate for about six years. I had seen Kate's work on her website and at her non-wedding photo exhibitions, so I immediately thought of her when I was planning my wedding. I knew having a friend photograph the wedding could put a strain on the friendship if the photos were in any way disappointing, but because of my trust in Kate and confidence in her talent and work, I never had a second thought about having Kate do the photography. And I couldn't be happier with the results!

I have seen plenty of lovely wedding photos, but few that could qualify as art. Weather, lighting, and location are all opportunities to Sam, not obstacles. I have photos of myself standing in bushes, a parking lot, and in front of a drab curtain, and all of them look like scenes from a movie. Just look at his website; you'll see what I mean. Everyone's jaws drop when I show them my photos. (2) Both he and his assistant, Kaylee, are so much fun to work with. They have delightful, fun, mellow personalities. They don't dominate the shoot, boss you around, flake out, or get impatient. They really make the shoot all about you and enjoy every minute of it with you. (3) He will do anything to make you happy. We forgot to get a picture of the wedding bands on me and my husband's fingers, so when he was in the area, he came to my apartment to get the shot. How many photogs will do that? He will respond very promptly to any other requests you may have. I've asked him to Photoshop things out, change the color of ties, etc. (4) He is FAST! I was able to view a gallery of my photos within a week after my wedding. After I chose some prints, he had them shipped to me the very next day. Seriously, it's supernatural! What else do I need to say? If you want a photographer for ANYTHING, wedding or otherwise, give Sam a call! You will not regret it.

Out of all of the people we interviewed, Karman seemed the most enthusiastic and organized about photographing our wedding. It was clear from the beginning that she would dedicate a very high level of care and attention to making sure that we got beautiful photos in the style we were looking for. Karman really went above and beyond to make our photos look great. She made extra trips in advance to our ceremony and reception venues so that she could check out the lighting situation and scope out possible locations for great shots at each. She did a wonderful engagement shoot with my husband and I where she helped us to get comfortable with her style and with getting lots of pictures taken! I'm so happy we did that, because it made us so much more comfortable on our wedding day, and the pictures we got are really spectacular. At our wedding, Karman was all over the place hustling to get tons of fantastic shots of our guests, our venue, and of course us! She was also extremely easy to get along with -- I remember interviewing another photographer who told me she would yell at my family members to get them to stand still for group portraits -- and I was so happy we went with Karman instead. She managed to get beautiful shots of everyone while never seeming at all pushy or intrusive. I would definitely recommend Karman -- I'm really glad we chose her.

We couldn't be happier with our photos. Karman and I met several times before the wedding to discuss what we wanted (specific photos, timeline for taking the photos, the "look and feel", etc) and she nailed every single one. Her and her assistant-- and it was so amazing to have a second shooter-- captured every important moment. Price was a big factor for us, too, as we paid for most of the wedding ourselves, and Karman's wedding package was significantly less than most of the photographers we contacted. She worked with us to make sure what we wanted worked with our budget, and she also spent a good amount of her own time meeting with us before the wedding, doing a walk through at our venue, and arriving earlier than scheduled the day of the wedding. I can't recommend Karman highly enough. So many of our friends weren't happier with their photographers. If you want a fantastic photographer at an affordable price Karman is it!
