I saw Dr. Michael Trauner through Golden State Dermatology located in Walnut Creek, CA last week, and he performed Moos surgery on my left ear. My impression was that he was completely thorough, and carefully removed several layers from the skin on my ear. He explained every detail to my complete satisfaction. I had essentially no real discomfort during the procedure, and later in the coming days. His careful advice to me regarding home care was excellent, and I am healing beautifully. I went to see Dr. Trauner small growths on my face. I had already see my primary Doctor and found that they were not a problem just aging skin. I found Dr. Trauner on yelp. From the initial call when I made an appointment the staff was friendly and helpful. I came earlier than my appointment to fill out paper work and at my appointment time the nurse brought me to the examination room. Within minutes Dr. Trauner was there. He froze off the spots after determining that they were just "barnacles". Very professional. I will come back to Dr. Tauner. I would definitely recommend him. read more

I had these ugly growths on my wrist and on the backs of my arms all the way up to my elbows. Dr. Trauner suspected what it was and took a biopsy. The results came back and he was right. I got a prescription and off I went. There really was no waiting at all at this appointment. The office is run like clockwork and all staff are friendly and professional. Dr. Trauner is an exceptional physician. I have had skin issues my whole life and thought what I has was psoriasis. My condition was at times painful and I itched so bad it greatly affected my sleep. I saw Dr. Trauner for the first time three years ago. The first thing he did was biopsy my skin and determined I didn't has psoriasis, but eczema. We then set of trying different medication to get the right combination, and most importantly, come up with a strategy for the application of the medications so I wouldn't become immune to them. I noticed a skin growth on my leg and had another dermatologist look at it. She quickly dismissed it as a "sign you're getting older." She didn't answer when I asked what it is called. The growth did not go away, in fact it was was becoming inflamed. I sought a second opinion and made an appointment with Dr Trauner. He immediately examined it and took a biopsy that revealed it was a type of skin cancer. Dr Trauner explained the cancer to me clearly and outlined options. He did not dismiss me. He showed he cares genuinely and showed he is willing to answer any and all questions. In times of masks, distancing, Dr Trauner is professional and can create a comfortable environment for his patients, a feeling of trust. I strongly recommend Dr Trauner and his staff for any and all dermatologic concerns. I have received the correct and appropriate treatment for this skin cancer. read more

Great doctor! Knows his stuff. For almost 2 years I suffered with an rash on my body that was red, swollen, itchy, ugly and uncomfortable. As some spots would fade and scab over, new spots would appear. At one point it covered my entire back. I went to numerous doctors, dermatologist, rheumatologist, had allergy testing and biopsy's, creams. No one could give me an answer. By the time I went to Dr. Trauner I was tired, frustrated and didn't expect much. Dr. Trauner took one look at me, asked some questions and had me diagnosed within a few minutes with atopic dermatitis. He said the creams I had been given before were not strong enough. With stronger steroid cream it went away and hasn't returned. With both the initial and follow up visits he was very easy to talk to, listened without rushing, explained things clearly and what I need to do short and long term. Very competent. Such a relief. I highly recommend going to him. read more

I was concerned when I read reviews for Dr. Trauner. I have to disagree with the negative reviews. I went in for Moh's surgery and he treated me very well, and was concerned for my well-being during the entire appointment. He even called to check on me at 6:30 at night. There was confusion when setting up the appointment with the front office staff, as well as an inability to get through 3 times during normal business hours. I would suggest that people see Dr. Trauner. read more

I totally love Midtown Dermatology. I took my daughter to Dr. Trauner's office for a delicate surgery to remove a lipoma right in the middle of her forehead. We were both nervous about having a scar in the middle of her forehead. He reviewed all the options and spent time with both of us and I did not feel rushed like you do at some doctors offices. We selected him over the other two doctors because he seemed to genuinely care about her. We scheduled the surgery (3 weeks ago), had the stitches removed a week later and today there is almost no scar. We think it may go away completely which is something we did not expect. :-) The office staff greeted us right away and were cheerful, plus - it looked like they enjoyed working there. I like that! They validate parking for 50% off the underground lot or you can usually find a meter in the surrounding blocks. Bring quarters. read more

Worst experience ever! Dr. Trauner couldn't be bothered to look at my skin and proceeded to misdiagnose me on 3 different appointments. Arrogant and not interested in treating patients. Couldn't get a hold of the doctor when treatments weren't working. Took out my own stitch from a biopsy. Front desk staff useless. read more

Dr.Trauner has been my Dermatologist since 2005.I have had numerous surgeries for Basal cell carcinoma ,Squamous cell carcinoma and for Melanoma twice. Dr Trauner's care and concern for my comfort and well being has been amazing. I have and will continue to recommend his practice to anyone needing expert,professional and compassionate Dermatology care,from initial screening through,surgery and post-op care. He sees me as often as every 3 months and has been able to identify possible cancers before I'm aware of changes,thus having early intervention with minimal surgery and scarring.I would give his practice and all the staff 5 stars read more

I had Mohs surgery recently with Dr. Trauner and had a wonderful experience. The receptionist was very friendly and the two nurses I worked with were great! Dr. Trauner was extremely professional and by far one of the most gentle doctors I've been to. I was most afraid of the procedure being painful and barely felt a thing. Excellent technique. Dr. Trauner even called me the night of the surgery to check in on me - I feel it is rare to hear from the doctor on a follow up phone call. To the post above, BE COMPLETELY CONCERNED WITH ALL THE NEGATIVE REVIEWS for Dr. Trauner. I've had 3-4 visits with him and unlike the post below, I would NOT RECOMMEND Dr. Trauner to anyone. His office staff is incredibly rude, unpleasant, absurdly difficult to reason with and make appointments, and horrible over all. They are the biggest bunch of unaccommodating human beings I've met in my life. I have a condition Dr. Trauner treats that required urgent treatment and they told me that I had to wait until January (2.5 months) to see him for ONLY 10 minutes (length of treatment). I told them my problem was getting worse and they didn't care to help me at all or offer any other solution apart from placing me on a waiting list that has never worked the last 2 times I was placed on it. I pleaded and pleaded with them to no avail. His staff and Dr. Trauner lack compassion and empathy for patients. I felt his office don't place patient satisfaction or comfort at the top of their list or care to alleviate patient symptoms. Please, please please, AVOID AT ALL COSTS. His office staff are atrocious and his bed side manner brief, rushed, and apathetic. read more

I went to Dr. Trauner for Mose surgery. Everyone was pleasant and he is absolutely wonderful. The surgery which can be very lengthy was only a couple of hours. It is healing perfectly. I recently came back as i had gone to another dermatology office who told me a spot on my leg was nothing. It is squamish cell which needs to be treated quickly. Dr. Trauner's staff scheduled me for surgery within two weeks. I find the staff friendly, polite, and extremely professional. I dont understand M.R.'s review. Please read the others which give five stars...... I highly recommend this office. I have not had any confusion. I guess some people just like to complain. read more

I was in the waiting room for almost an hour, and I didn't say anything because with all the reviews about the long waits and poor staff I almost expected it. I finally went to ask how much longer it would be. They immediately realized there was a mistake and got me back. The staff wasn't apologetic, so I was a bit annoyed with them. But Dr Trauner immediately came into the exam room and apologized profusely for the wait. Then I had a very thorough exam, and he clearly is an expert in his field. Best dermatologist I have ever been to, and I've been going to them off and on for 30 years. And then when we were finished, he apologized profusely again. I couldn't ask for any more out of him that that. But yeah, he said the communication breakdown was that the front desk never told his staff I had checked in. So the staff is definitely not the best. But if you put up with them, he is worth it. read more

I would have to say this, my outcome was great but customer service sucked! I have not met with Dr. Trauner, but I have met with Practicer Catherine Lenz. First, I would like to see that she is incredibly rude!! She has said things to me that no professional should have ever said to a patient. The only reason that I continued with her is because I was on the medication Claravis, otherwise known as Accutane or ISOTRETINOIN. With this medication you must follow up with your doctor every month, and if you fail to do so, you have to start the whole process over again. This would set you back a whole month. Anyhow, Ms. Lenz was not patient with me nor understanding. There has been times where I could not make a certain appointment because I was either out of the country, work or school. I tried to compromised with her so much but she wouldn't. If I was late or missed an appointment she raised hell, but let her be late or not available for weeks at a time, you suffered. All I pretty much needed her for was to ask me how was I doing, give me my prescription and let me go on my merrier way. Dealing with her was a pain, because she continued to critize me at times. However, back to my treatment, the medication worked wonders. I was on it for about 6 months. I am a 25 yr old AA woman that has suffered from acne since high school. It gradually faded some acne scars, and cleared up cystic acne on my face as well as on my vaginal area from waxing. I have received cystic acne once right after I stopped my medication. But as far as normal acne, not so much. To control your acne you really must still to a strict diet, exercise & regimen. That's what worked for me. Also, drink lots of water. My sweat glands have come back, but you must do all of this to control it. I will be seeking another dermatologist to remove some of the scarring that was left behind. But her as an individual and a practice they suck. If you want to get on this medication, this is the place to go. If you care about customer service, you may have to think twice. They accept a wide variety of medical insurances, so thats great! In addition you do have to pay for parking, so if she is late you have to pay for those extra minutes or hours. read more

The scheduling system is terrible I had scheduled an appointment 3 months in advance and received absolutely no form of reminder for the appointment, and ended up missing my appointment because of that. When I called the office, the staff was very rude, had a I don't care attitude and didn't even offer an apology for not sending out a reminder like most places do. I was told I would have to wait another 3 months for an appointment, no thanks! I rather wait 3 months to see a different dermatologist with competent and friendly staff. read more

I had a procedure yesterday fromDr Trauner. It was one of those MOHS procedure where you remove potential cancer and then do a biopsy and if OK wrap it up .If not continue. It was OK on the first try. Dr Trauner and his staff are wonderful. The staff is always cheerful and very professional. Michael is a great doctor. Always professional and on time and has a great manner. Skin cancer is very dangerous and I am prone to it because of the drugs I take for my heart transplant. Dr. Trauner is very good at what he does. He is caring and kind and truly made my recent MOHs surgery a lot less nerve racking then I had expected it to be. I have seen several Dermatologist here in Placer County and never felt comfortable with any of them until I found Dr. Trauner, he explained my concerns very clearly and help ease my fear. I have had to have a biopsy on my forehead from another doctor and it was a horrible experience nothing was explained to me and it left a hole in my forhead for a very long time and took several months before they could even do a Mohs surgery to remove the skin cancer that was found, because they had to refer me to another doctor to preform the surgery, it was very frustrating and I was a nervous wreck, the healing process was a nightmare and I prayed I didn't ever have to go through that again. Unfortunately a year later another spot showed up and I knew I needed it checked and that's when I found Dr. Trauner at Sacramento Ear, Nose and throat in Roseville, I had heard they had dermatologist and it was a blessing that they got me in right away. Dr. Trauner looked over my face and knew the spot was probably another carcinoma that would more likely need surgery, the biopsy he preformed did NOT leave a big ugly hole on my face and healed nicely and my surgery was scheduled within a couple of weeks not months, the best part is he did the Mohs surgery and did a excellent job! My face did not swell up like before and no bruising, I actually slept all night with very little pain that only required over the counter Tylenol. Today 4/5/17 is the day after my surgery and I feel great, that is why I give Dr.Trauner and his friendly staff 5+ stars!! I cannot say enough great things about Dr Trauner and his staff. When I checked in the receptionist was extremely friendly and professional. I only had to wait 10 minutes max to go to the exam room. Staff is incredibly rude. Their parking lot was closed with cones so I had to park at a nearby lot. I was 15 minutes late and they would not see me. They have a 10 minute late policy. They usually make me wait 15-30 minutes in the waiting area. Doesn't make sense!! read more

I took my father-in-law in to this office two times in the past two months, and I was completely delighted by the way the staff treated us. The Physician's Assistant was very patient and kind and extremely gentle, and had a sunny attitude, and the medical assistant who checked his blood-pressure and got him all ready was very sweet. When we got to the front desk on the way out, everyone was very helpful and did not mind answering questions at all, and made sure we had a parking validation. One other reviewer was right - bring some quarters and dollar bills as the parking booth on the way out of the parking garage often doesn't have change. One other nice thing this office did was send a letter with very detailed instructions on parking and where to go once you've parked. This office even has snacks and coffee in the waiting room, and little samples of lotion and other stuff for you to take on the way out - and don't forget to take your lollipop! All in all, a very pleasant experience, and my father-in-law usually hates going to the doctor. I liked these folks so much, I changed dermatologists on our second visit and made an appointment with Dr. Trauner! read more

I would not recommend Dr. Trauner, in fact I would avoid it completely. It took 2 months to even schedule an appointment, which my nail condition changed by the time I had my appointment. He made racial and sexist comments...mentioning my tan skin tone versus all his and his assisstants which doesn't have to do anything with my nails...I was also the tanest and only non-white person in their office and in the waiting room. Then he told me to just wear nail polish, which I don't think he would say to a male, and I wonder if he just tells everyone else to just conceal their derm issues. He took 5 seconds to look at my nails and eventually told me my condition was not treatable (even though I've seen improvements with home remedies) and wouldn't even conduct a sample to the test it given my mixed test results which is why I was referred. It was a waste of driving, waiting, and time. I will not be coming back here and prefer the kinder and thorough Davis Dermatology that I use to go to before my insurance changed. read more

I found out about Dr.Trauner through my husband, who had met him through professional channels. Dr. Trauner treated my daughter for rosacea, and she was delighted by the results. I have a several brown sun spots on my face, which I have been subconscious about for some time, so I decided to ask him to treat me. The spots are disappearing and I am looking forward to discontinuing the use of face makeup. I was very impressed with Dr Trauner and the entire staff. Like most people, I was very nervous about having something removed from my face. I was told that he is the best in what he does, and found this to be completely true. He has a great sense of humor which makes it a bit easier.
