Horrible. I drove all the way there for them to tell me I was 7 min late. Canceled my appointment

I have been seeing doc for over 10yrs. Didn't start out needing as much care as today with chronic pain. I have had 4 knee replacements, 3 hip replacements and open heart surgery due to tumor on mitral valve throughout my 61yrs. and now confined to a wheelchair. In 2019 C1-T-4 was fused. My life today is chronic pain 24/7. He installed a pain pump in 2023 for my lower back. It works great!. I took a fall on to the hot burning pavement June 6, 2025. Heard my head hit the ground. I believe it jarred the fusion from 2019. The nerves became rapid fire, pain 24/7. On 6/19 I had a procedure called spinal cord catherization throughout my spine. Within 2hrs my number 10 pain decreased to an 8 by bedtime I was at my bace line of 6. I highly recommend Dr. Castillo's office he is very knowledgeable, listens, and takes the time for you. I would not recommend this doctor at all. I brought him my MRI and he completely ignored it and said it was incomplete. For my second follow up visit I was supposed to see him and I ended up waiting an extra 45 minutes and saw one of the nurses I think he's just there to collect money from people for their pain.UPDATE...Dr is claiming I was never a patient,completely false.I had 7 office visits. Be happy to take screenshots of my visits.This guy can't even remember who he saw or didn't take the time to check with his staff. read more

I've been going to Dr. Castillo for over 3 years for pain management and have been satisfied with the treatment and the management of the many issues I have had and others that I still have. I had issues with my right knee and received injections for awhile which helped for awhile until it wore down to bone on bone. I decided on a knee replacement. Had a pain issue after the knee replacement and Dr. Castillo was able to give an injection to take away that pain - haven't had any pain in that area since. I also have issues with arthritis and lower back which I receive injections. It helps to control the pain as well as managing pain meds. The doctor and his team are all excellent care givers. Yes, occasionally one has to wait a little longer because the doctor is treating other patients - I understand that he takes the amount of time needed to make sure the procedure is being done right. He gives everyone the time needed to address whatever issues a person is having. read more

This doctor used to be a great doctor. His hands are much more shaky and his ability to inject has created huge, dark black and blues all over my arms. His staff is incompetent and rude. Dr. Castillo has zero respect for patients he has had for many years. He has left his office staff to administer injections and sedatives without his presence in office and the staff are now acting as the doctor. When his staff administered my injections, it was as if I had nothing done. I got absolutely no relief from pain. The doctor told me it was clear the injections were not administered appropriately. When returning for Dr. Castillo to administer the injections 2 weeks later, I left completely bruised up. I have deep,dark black and blues on my neck on my shoulder on my elbow and on my wrist. I highly recommend you steer clear of this office. This doctor needs to retire now if he is leaving his office staff to do his work. I wrote a letter to the doctor expecting he would call and discuss the matter, especially since I have been a patient of his for many years. I get a call from office staff who proceeded to reprimand me and demean me. I was told I signed paperwork understanding I would not get an appointment to discuss the MRI taken. The paper I signed specifically shows that I was supposed to keep the appointment for the next injection and to schedule the appointment for the MRI. I called 3 times to rectify this situation and the staff could not accommodate me. Were they (the doctor?) going to give me injections without looking at the MRI they already had. I was told it takes 45 minutes to review the MRI. That is absurd! I have already gone over this MRI with my primary which took a total of 15 minutes. I have an appointment with my surgeon who will also not take 45 minutes to discuss the MRI. Question, does this office administer injections without reviewing the MRI? Is that ethical? It is very sad how fast this practice has gone downhill. I highly recommend you seek other professional care. Stay away from this office/doctor. read more

Saw Dr. Castillo's practice for about 3 months. Each month I went in for prescription refills and discussed my level of pain. Last month some old bat walks in that ive never met and begins to tell me that there practice is not about refilling prescriptions. She said I had a month to get two MRI's on my neck and lower back. Then they would implant two pain mgt. Pumps in my body. Very invasive. Let's not forget they didn't mention any of this shit when I started seeing their practice. My warning to anyone going to Dr. Castillo's practice or thinking about it to run like hell. They aren't there to help you feel better. I left there feeling like I wasted my time at a used car lot with some pathetic sales woman try to sell me a fiat. Dr. Castillo's practice is all about making as much money off you as they can. By doing very invasive procedures that make them lots of money but later cause more problems for your body. You've been warned! read more

I have been to pain MD's in the past prior to both of my back surgeries. I didn't have bad experiences, but just felt like a number and never got any real relief. Nor did I feel like they cared either way. Dr. Michael Castillo has seriously changed my life. I'm an RN and know the system and process. He truly CARES and didn't stop until he found the multiple sources of pain I was experiencing. I'm 41 and was using a cane to get out of bed every day. I thoutht for sure I was headed for surgery #3. Office staff is very patient and friendly. Flexible scheduling and they are on top of everything from scheduling next appointments to detailed instructions. I truly felt like I walked in and they just took care of everything without having to ask which is such a rarity. You can tell this team really jives well together and it must be a good place to work because it shows in their day to day dealings with people coming to them in pain. The doctor is very nice, thorough and takes time to make sure he understands what's going on and you understand treatment plan. No question was left unanswered. I have gone for a consult for a nerve ablation (had it previously elsewhere) and felt totally comfortable scheduling it on the spot and was able to get in a week later. Approximately 3 weeks ago I called his office and spoke to a women about this doctor. I explained that I have tremendous pain from rheumatoid arthritis and relapsing polychondritis. I have been previously to busy pain clinic that all they were concerned in doing was epidurals, blocks and procedures like this because it's their money maker. Horrendous wait times at every visit. Being very sick and disabled this didn't work for me. So, when I spoke with Dr. Castillo's office i said I'm interested in a doctor who will help me with my unique situation rather than high priced money making options. This lady wasn't a good listener at all . Actually my first contact was via his website. I gave thorough information. It is so despicable that all they were concerned with was high priced procedures rather than appropriate pain management. This doctor did not know nor did she what relasping polychondritis was. Two -three in one million will get it. I wasn't interested in implants for obvious reasons of my disease. Finally, she tells me she will speak to this dr, and he will get back to me. I find it despicable that he or she never did. You really see the knuckles of a doctor when he can't even provide pain management for someone in such pain on a daily basis . This happened awhile back. Couldn't even get past intake person. She told me that to come here you had to consent to epidurals to get pain medication. When I nicely told her my neurosurgeon specifically did not want me to get epidurals and besides; that, she should let Dr. Castillo make a diagnosis determination on what was the correct course of treatment on me, she rudely told me they didn't cater to my kind. But whatever, told my referring doctor and who says he won't recommend Dr. Castillo anymore due to this. read more

Dr. Castillo has changed my life and has been my trusted Doctor for over ten years now. Words cannot describe how well he does his job. I have had two low back surgeries and he has advised me not to have any more surgeries due to the fact that I am now having problems with Scar Tissue. He is a master of his trade and actually will sit down and listen to you and spend time with you unlike a lot of other doctors I have seen. I am still athletic and have a much greater quality of life due to Doctor Castillo's treatments.... He studies your condition and understands exactly what is needed to seek out your problem and get it fixed. My sister is a RN and works with Dr. Castillo at a Phoenix area surgery center. She regards Dr. Castillo and his staff very highly and recommended seeing him for my complex and severe TMJ issues/pain as I was exhausting my options locally. Despite living in Seattle at the time, I made an appointment and am very happy I did. Dr. Castillo is incredible. He listened to me, respected my concerns, answered all of my questions and provided solutions no other medical professional had in 10+ years and multiple states. He set clear expectations, even when the outcome was a bit uncertain, and put together a easy to understand strategy. The staff at Arizona Neuromodulation Center is also great. Everyone is very friendly. The nurses are thorough, personable and work hard to ensure patient safety and comfort. I know they see a lot of patients, but I feel like I am the only one in the way they interact with me. I have moved to the SF Bay Area and continue to travel to Phoenix to see Dr. Castillo as I really trust him and his approach. I value that he sees treatment from a different perspective, understands my desire to have a holistic treatment plan and priorities access to care in his practice. While I am still in the process of finding the right solution for my pain, I am happy that I am working with Dr. Castillo and his team. read more

I can't rate this wonderful, caring Doctor highly enough. He has changed my life. He is smart and determined, but certainly no pushover. His goal is to fix you as best a Dr. can, and he will drag you kicking and screaming to where you need to be, not where you think you should be. (If you're a pill seeker don't even bother. Dr. Castillo has saved my life not once but twice - once in 2009 and again this year. He has brought me back from the abyss of misery and pain from degenerative disc disease in my neck and has made my life worth living again. He is kind, caring, patient, and spends as much time with you as you need to understand your condition and his prognosis. I have met very few people, let alone doctors, who have made me feel as comfortable and unintimidated as Dr. Castillo. His staff is wonderful. They fun and upbeat and go to great lengths to get you the treatment you need. And they do this while working with patients in great pain and dealing with uncooperative and difficult insurance companies. But I feel like part of the family when I go into the office. I could not recommend Dr. Castillo more strongly and I agree completely with the other patients who have given him a 5-star rating. I think you will too. read more

I called and tried to make a new appointment to see Dr Castillo. The receptionist immediately asked me what my current dosage level was of opioid medication and I told her. I said it had also just been reduced per the new law. She said that "you know that everyone is getting their medication reduced if that is why you are calling." I said I understood and that was not why I was wanting to change over from my current pain provider. She then asked if I was getting back shots currently and I said no. She said you know that we don't just pass pain medications here, that the doctor gives back shots. I told her I couldn't get back shots per my surgeon because of spinal tumors. She immediately told me that I would be getting back shots if I came here. I told her I would prefer if she didn't mind to discuss my medical chart with the doctor and not her. She kept insisting I would get back shots if I came here and they don't just pass out meds, that the doctor thinks outside the box. I kept telling her I wanted to discuss my medical needs with the doctor. What nerve. Running patients off in droves this snotty receptionist. Not my kind of place to go. Will be telling my referring physician all about it. read more
