The last two dive trips that we have done with them were great and we had a wonderful time. I have done approximately 20 dives with this company. However, this last time the guides were so disconnected. Michael and Dololly in the shop were so helpful but as soon as we got on the boat we were basically on our own. The only person that was even remotely helpful was Marco, who we had dove with before. He seemed to be the only guide that knew how to man the boat. Riley was absolutely clueless and rude. She was the guide that stayed on the boat to help us on/off the boat and while my mother was trying to get back on, she let go of her without warning leading to her falling and gashing open her leg. When I asked my mom what happened to her leg Riley snidely commented well she fell on the boat. Then while she was helping me get on the boat she grabbed my air gauge causing me to almost fall as well. One of the guides, didn't catch his name, was drinking alcohol on the boat before and after the dive while certifying a 10 year old boy. I don't understand how this is allowed. Furthermore, our guide left us in the middle of the dive. He eventually showed up but did not seem able to navigate under water as the previous guides had. Which was very nerve wracking considering the currents we were moving into. He also did not help with getting on and off of the boat for the dives. He was very disengaged with our group and did not seem to want to even be a guide. Overall, a bad experience sadly as we have enjoyed our previous trips with them. It seems their guides have become much less knowledgeable and supportive than they used to be. Most dive guides are personable and want to share their dive knowledge, however this group seems to be more about just getting it done.

Sent me back with about 3200 PSI in my HP100 tanks. The second time around I asked for 32% nitrox. I checked them at the store with their analyzer and they gave me 34% and 41%. When I questioned them about it they said their analyzer was broken but they were certain the tanks were filled properly with 32%. Masks I bought for one of my sons & I were uncomfortable. The staff at Grove Scuba helped us find replacements that we're really pleased with. Our experience was very satisfying and we will be back!

Stiltsville was super interesting and I enjoyed learning more about the key holders. I find it fascinating that you can still potentially rent these places out. We were able to get off the boat at Boca Chita, where we climbed the lighthouse. From there, we saw multiple sharks in the water. We also had plenty of time to explore the key and take pictures. For National Park stamp collectors, the boat staff have stamps on the vessel if you don't have time to go to the National Park visitor center. I would absolutely do a tour through the institute again.

Upon check-in, we realized that they put in 18 people in a small boat, the whole boat was pretty packed. The captain and helper were both friendly and helpful, they have pool noodles to help those who in need. we stopped at two sites, the water was cold near the mangrove and not many fish. The second site was better with reefs and warmer water. Even with wetsuits the majority us were shivering the whole 45 minutes journey back to the land. Our captain spotted dolphins on our way back, there were 4-5 of them in clear waters and swam near to our boat. if you have two or more people, i think charter a boat is better.

Our weekend was split between a group of four students and a group of two semi-private students. The price I was quoted for the semi private group was $1479..the group rate was $679. Did not see a much of difference between groups...perhaps semi-privates received an hour or so per person more helm time. The class room instruction was identical...the last day we were all in class together due to weather. The last day of water activities were cancelled due to weather. Some but not all of tasks were shoehorned in the first day. A make up day was alluded to during the first day of the course when it appeared the weather was going south for the second day. When the second day of on the water was cancelled I asked for a rescheduled on the water day at a mutually convenient time. I was told that the class would be emailed...but that never happened. PROS Very knowledgeable instructors. Bob is a former Commodore of Coconut Grove Sailing Club. His knowledge of Biscayne Bay was imparted during the navigation and on the water exercises as an added benefit above and beyond the syllabus. The way he demonstrated to tie the knots sunk in unlike over fifty years of previous knot instruction from boy scouts to military to sailing did not. Melissa was a very engaging instructor who carried the main burden of class room instruction. She kept the class interesting, while having to cover a large amount of material. The boat used was a 22 foot cat hull. It was very well maintained and operated flawlessly for the four hours we were aboard. CONS Classroom was at the coconut grove bookstore. They had a youth group the first day practicing musical instruments. The second day we were in the outside courtyard during a cold snap...kind of uncomfortable. In top of that a fire alarm went off for at least ten minutes. For the $5600 gross for the students that weekend you would think they could hire a conference room. Being shorted half of the on the water training was disappointing. Totally understand the weather call...but a make up day should have been scheduled to fulfill the syllabus requirements. I had requested the book to read ahead. They cover a lot of information verbally but there is not enough time to digest the information during the course...especially for new boaters. The exam sheet that I received had the answers circled in pencil and then erased where you could just barely see them. IDK if everyone had same experience, but looking at test results I would assume they were all the same.

It was late in the day and we had tried to do some Airboat Tours earlier in the week but we were traveling with our dog and they were not dog friendly. We decided to stop just to check and luckily for us, not only are they dog friendly but they were doing one last tour before the sunlight was gone. Our guide Fabian was awesome. He was super chill but informative and really did a great job. Especially considering that is was late in the day and he was only able to find one alligator. He definitely tried a lot of spots and it was clear that there would normally have been more wildlife to look as so even he seemed a bit disappointed but he definitely made the most of the birds and other wildlife that we did spot. There was a second alligator and even a baby gator when we arrived at the makeshift village stop that we watched swim in the water a bit. I really liked that Fabian was upfront about the fact that the "village" was just a replica for tourists and not really a relic. He also joked that he has a TV and it is nothing like how native people live today. We had a really nice time on the tour but it is incredibly loud and we spent some of the tour putting our headphones over our dogs ears to protect her from the sound. The office workers warned us about the noise though and they were so sweet they even offered to let her stay in the office with them while we took the tour. I definitely would not take her with us again if we did another tour, but only because I worried about her little ears. She did super well with everything else, including the gator being so close to us and getting on and off the boat. We spent well over $100 after tip on the tour for two people and a dog and it lasted about 45 minutes but I really feel like the experience was well worth the price and the employees here were just so friendly and kind. I highly recommend stopping here and taking a tour with this company.
