What interesting architecture at Coral Gables Library! (1968, same age as me!) I cannot believe…read morethat I have been here 12 years and have never been before. Worthy of a visit if you are in the area. The building was built from native keystone, quarried in the Florida Keys, Honduran Mahogany doors, Spanish clay floor tiles, and wrought iron fixtures. The building's Spanish influence is apparent, conforming to Coral Gables' guidelines for the Mediterranean Revival style. The main reading room has 15-foot high ceilings with exposed wood beams. It was designed by Edward T. Rempe, AIA, and his associate, Wray G. Succop, AIA. The library's interior is a blend of Spanish and contemporary influence.

The standout here is the Cuban Heritage collection, which is open to the public and has an amazing collection of lots of artifacts from Cuban history. Lots of mixed feelings about this place…read more Plenty of computers and floor space but oddly not enough tables and chairs. The study rooms are like freezers but midday on the second floor is an oven. Plenty of printers but the wifi is spotty. Recently the management changed study room policy greatly limiting the flexibility of group work- resulting in mostly empty rooms as opposed to the constant battle for them. The stacks are quiet but have terrible ambience and even more terrible internet connectivity. It can get a bit creepy at night as desperate study spot vultures circle the shelves behind you. Accidentally taking the elevator down to the M level is also reminiscent of a potential horror movie scenario with its locked cage gates and dimly lit narrow aisles. Nonetheless, the place is open 24/7 during finals and is a reliable place to surround yourself with people doing mildly academic things. You'll at least feel a little less guilty about not studying after sitting here for half the day. Try the music library or the law library for a better library experience. If you're just here to get books, Richter is just as good as any other. At the end of the day, Richter is a University Library which could be a lot worse and has a fair number of amenities, and at least- does it's job passably. More like a 3.5 but I'll round to 4 for effort!

But even though they are a small branch staff are always friendly. Parking is a bit difficult since the park has a lot of patrons and never seems to be enough parking available. And where did I end up? Not at home with a snack, not on the streets getting into trouble--nope. My babysitter was the Shenandoah Library. This place saved me. It was air-conditioned (a gift in Miami), quiet (unless I was breathing heavy down the book aisles), and mercifully free. I'd wander the stacks pretending to look studious but really hoping to stumble across a forbidden "naked lady book." Spoiler alert: no luck. When that mission failed, I'd lock myself in the bathroom for way too long, only to get the inevitable librarian knock: "Kid, are you still in there?" Yeah, I was. Don't judge me--at least I wasn't out buying Hot Cheetos. And yet, between the failed nudie hunts and the bathroom marathons, I actually discovered books. Real ones. Stories that made me laugh, wonder, and eventually fall in love with reading. Shenandoah Library didn't just keep me off the streets--it accidentally gave me a lifelong obsession with words. Not because it was perfect--libraries in the 90s smelled like dust and faint mildew--but because it tolerated me. It gave me refuge when I was awkward, overweight, and searching for something (besides naked ladies). It was patient, forgiving, and quietly life-changing. Shenandoah Library: where a chubby kid found air-conditioning, refuge, and a love of books--even if the librarians had to drag him out of the bathroom to do it.

The branch moved down a few blocks, not too far from the old one, to a new shopping plaza which caters to the technological needs of modern libraries. This new building may be slightly larger than the previous one, although it feels the same as the old one. The spacing and the lighting inside are far superior here than at the previous site. Even though the collection is small, you can easily navigate through the book shelves without lack of lighting. This building has glass panels to the north, giving the interior plenty of light and almost no heat. Available here you will find many computer stations and a printer. It is not a very big library, but it has all the basic amenities. There are also tables for groups, chairs for individual reading, and a kids corner, and also a clean restroom and a water fountain. The most precious find at this location is the DVD collection. If you are looking for movies, novelas or TV shows in Spanish, here you will find lots of it. It is a very large collection. Next to the DVDs are the books in Spanish, though they are bestsellers and celebrity books. This library has Wi-fi like all the other libraries. Because of the very limited parking space, it is best to use this library to pick up books only, or for a quick web surfing. The patrons are many and after all, availability is limited.

He gives out coloring pages, crayons, markers and has even let my little one choose a book she'd like for him to read! The area for kids has a carpet and 2 bean bag chairs for the kids to relax and enjoy their books.
