If you get a chance eat in the veranda area. The view on a nice evening is quite scenic. Perusing the menu they had a good offering of seafood, steaks and many other things including pasta and salad. Asking the server and she mentioned the specialty of the restaurant was the prime rib roast beef. So I ended up ordering a 10 oz (rare) with fries and vegetables. Also served with the meal was a wonderful very tangy vinaigrette coleslaw that was bit garlicky but slightly sweet which was very nice to get the appetite going. The beef was excellent. A good portion with some fatty areas but not tough at all and seasoned lightly. My cut was rare and done exactly as I preferred. I worked my way around the fat and very much enjoyed the meal! It was just the perfect size. Not belly ache too much but I was hungry. Service was very good. Overall I'd say this is the restaurant to come to in the region. Come eat the beef. You won't be disappointed. They have a 20oz if you have a construction worker or a fat mans appetite.

It was a beautiful and quaint little building with a very reasonable menu and a wonderful welcoming host who runs the restaurant and I imagine lives there. While she didn't really speak English, she was very hospitable and didn't seem to be upset that I was not able to speak French. The menu featured breakfast items as well as lunch (sandwiches, burgers, gelato, etc.) All I really wanted was some coffee, but she was so hospitable I also ordered some bean soup with meat broth. It was delightful. It was made prior and had to be warmed up and there was a vegetable soup option as well. It was delicious. While I did not try the omelettes or spaghetti, I found the soup and coffee to be delicious and I'm glad this place was open on a Sunday!

I've found that once you get out of Montreal and Quebec City, most people speak French only. I was fortunate that my wife speaks some French. We ordered the mac n cheese, duck poutine, sausage platter, and Caesar salad. The mac n cheese was quite good. The sausage platter was very tasty, but petite for the price in my opinion. The duck poutine had an awesome flavor, but the fries were a little overdone. The Caesar salad had a very mild flavor, perhaps too mild, but I like my Caesar salad to be strong. It might just be my taste. I also tried one of their in house beers. I'd definitely recommend trying one if you visit. Overall, the food here is tres bien. Bar food in the US usually consists of fried everything, so this was a nice contrast. If you're in Saguenay, it is certainly worth a stop.

For those that are unaware(or who live life as a caveman), Quebec really does have some excellent fromageries! The Quebec french culture dates back over 400 years to ancestry from France and the art of cheese making has carried on and flourished in many areas of the province throughout the years! It was a nice surprise to see they even have a newly constructed dining room attached to the cheese shop where you can catch lunch. The highlight of the dining room was a poutine bar where you could slather as much cheese, different kinds of meat, peppers, onions and of course three kinds of sauce all over some fries! One visit to the poutine bar was $12 while all you can eat was $16. For me, a visit to the poutine bar would have put me straight to a deep coma sleep so I decided just to have a burger with small poutine and salad. Burger and serving was awesome! It tasted as it was a pork burger but had a nice touch to it. The salad was fresh with crunchy lettuce and a nice dressing. Poutine size was small but just enough to give you a taste and enjoy serving. The cheese shop had many jams and sauces all regional. I ended up buying some blueberry products (jams, syrups and of course a nice bag of cheese curds. The curds had a nice squeak to them but different from other cheese shops. Not as creamy as other places but nice and lighter tasting. I would definitely chalk this up as a must visit if in the area either for some easy souvenirs, to experience some of their awesome cheeses or to have a nice lunch. Or test some great poutine or other delicious items on the menu. Really I don't think you will be disappointed. I sure wasn't!

We had three starters, including some fall apart ribs that I dream about now. I ultimately ordered steak and frites, which was cooked to perfection. This place saved my life. I'm not exaggerating! After our car was damaged rendering it un-drivable,…read morewe were taken by the tow truck driver to this incredible refuge. Every front desk staff member I have interacted with (at least 4-5 of them) was as helpful as possible. They helped me communicate with the tow company in French, the car repair place also in French, and rental and bus alternatives in French as well. They helped order taxis when we needed to get around because we didn't have a car. They printed my bus tickets for me. They let me use the phone to make calls to sort things out and helped me get in touch with my insurance company. They were accommodating when we needed to come back and stay extra nights when the car was still not fixed. Everyone here was so friendly and the hotel itself is really quaint and beautiful and the rooms are very comfortable. I would definitely make this my first choice on any return trips to the Saguenay/La Baie area. Thank you, Auberge Des 21: you made our difficult situation much easier by taking some of the stress out of it for us and being so unbelievably helpful and friendly :)
