The juice is the only reason I gave this spot 2 stars. It was delicious. Everything else? Not so much. My wife had the flautas and the chicken inside was very bland and tasteless. I had 2 lengua tacos and that too was very bland and tasteless. The tripe tacos were just ok. We had to order and pay for chips and salsa which was unusual to me. I love love love authentic Mexican dishes, and this was definitely authentic, the flavors just weren't there for the things we ordered. When you have Mexican food you're looking for that POP of spice and flavor and sadly we didn't find it there. read more

Found this spot while visiting Orange Beach. This place is actually in Foley. This is a small Mexican restaurant that doesn't serve margaritas if your wanting one also they dont have guacamole only avocado. To drink they do have several Fresca flavors. Several tables so you can be seated. The menu has a few familiar entrees but we stuck to basic items. They have several hot sauces to add the level of heat you prefer. I ordered Flautas and used the hottest sauce provided. My only problem below: My flautas were chicken and the meat was tasteless/ dry inside. The topping of lettuce tomato/crema and added avocado slices helped along with the hotsauce I added. We also ordered steak/chicken street style tacos and sopes and thought they were just ok. I think this place is worth a try. Everyone's palate/taste is different. read more

Wow. After being disappointed that our first choice was closed on a Saturday we decided to stop in here and boy are we glad we did. They deliver a south of the border experience for sure. I had three different tacos including beef tongue in their handmade corn tortillas and they were definitely the real deal. The salsa bar is a huge plus too and had some seriously hot ones but still had some good flavor. I had my fave drink, Topo Chico. I wanted a chocolate covered banana but alas it has to wait until our next visit. And there will be a next visit. A bit of a language barrier is the only thing that happened to us but I count that as a good thing to add to the authenticity of the place. My wife and I ate at this restaurant on a Friday evening. We were waited on by a young woman that did a good job. We tipped her accordingly. I ordered a grilled chicken plate listed at between $14 and $15. My wife ordered pozole at $16. The food was served hot and was good. When presented with the bill, we were charged $28+ for the chicken plate. My wife called this to the attention of a middle aged female cashier. She became belligerent telling my wife that the bill was correct. It wasn't based on their menu prices. If that's the case we can eat at any other Mexican restaurant in Foley for 30 to 40% less. The quality is equivalent to most others. I do think we were intentionally overcharged based on the demeanor of the cashier. Rest assured, I will not grace their door again. read more

I had been looking forward to trying this place because I have seen many reviews that proclaim "authentic Mexican". I've been disappointed before but not this time, they are the REAL deal. I've spent a lot of time in Mexico, and not just tourist towns, from Cancun & Cozumel or Tijuana & Juarez but in cities in central Mexico & many towns up & down Baja from fine dining to roadside stands & everything in-between. Me encanta la buena comida mexicana! Funny story: On our young daughter's first trip to Mexico we stopped in a small roadside cafe for lunch and when her tacos arrived she looked a bit confused. The soft corn tortillas with sliced flank steak (Asada) topped with fresh cilantro and finely diced white onions indeed looked foreign to her. After she discovered these were actually tacos she asked if we could find the nearest Taco Bell :-) I've told that story many times but honestly & unfortunately that's not an uncommon response when lots of folks experience their first time having authentic Mexican meals. Don't get me wrong, I thoroughly enjoy many Tex-Mex dishes but it's different & it's unfortunate to see bad reviews that rant about no cheese, no crunchy tortilla's or queso dip, etc. c'mon people! If you put "Mi Tierra" in a translator it may say "My Earth" but when Gloria Estafan sings the song "Mi Tierra" it means "My Homeland" & that nuance is important because this restaurant serves the food of the Mexican Homeland... but I digress. Let's talk about this place. It's off the main drag tucked away in a small strip shopping and it's not fancy or decorated with piñatas and sombreros but it's clean & comfortable with friendly people. The owner/manager speaks fluent English but the servers I encountered weren't conversationally adept but handled my orders and other requests just fine. Some of the brutal comments I've read about language are totally unnecessary until you've travelled to countries or places where you don't speak the language or struggle with the basic lingo, you quickly appreciate patient people. There's 2 big screen TV's on either side of the place, there are no margaritas or other alcohol but I love me some Jarritos tamarind so I'm good, and they've got several soda coolers and make some inhouse juices as well. Onto the food, first of all, they bring out four different squeeze bottles of homemade sauces & two different bottled hot sauces already at the table give you nice choices to augment your different dishes. There are fresh tortilla chips out first with an inhouse fresh salsa, it's pretty mild but lots of options to spice it up in front of me. Speaking of choices, the menu offers beef, shrimp, chicken, pork and goat with all those options offered in tacos, burritos, fajitas and soups. For the authentic lovers, there's Menudo, which is hard to find around here. OI would be remiss if I didn't mention their excellent fresh-made tortillas, they are great and you receive 6 of them with your meal. The soups look amazing and there's a big selection so on my next trip I will seriously try one or more of those. For our choices this fine evening, my sweetheart went with the shrimp fajitas which came out fresh & hot. The shrimp were nicely cooked and seasoned with red & green peppers & onions with a side of good rice and refried beans. There's no cheese, guac, lettuce or tomato served with their fajitas but then again that's what I would expect in Mexico. I had the HUGE beef burrito that wasn't hamburger, it was a finely chopped beef that was once again nicely prepared & seasoned and filled with veggies & rice, it was one of the best burritos I've ever had, enough said. Bottom line: The food is authentic and delicious and the folks are professional, friendly and take pride in what that put out. This gringo really enjoys the "real deal" freshly prepared food here and I highly recommend it, period. read more

I would have posted a picture of my meal but truth be told I haven't had Mole in over 17 years and I couldn't wait to get into it. The Mole had a great flavor with homemade corn tortillas that also had great flavor. They offer a perfect homemade salsa and chips. My other half had the tacos and he said they were great tacos kind of like street tacos. If you are into authentic Mexican food and ambience, this would definitely be the place for you. The food was enjoyable, I had a steak burrito, even proportions in the burrito nothing was really overpowering anything else. Service was ok nothing special, waitress needs more experience but that isn't a bad thing just something that was noticeable. Place needs a new look, worker stations seem a little out of place. Holy!$@& !!!!!! This place is legit!! I am Hispanic and I'm always looking for food that taste like home. This place is for sure that! Handmade corn tortillas that taste like butter! I had the caldo de res and it was over flowing with meat i couldn't even finish it!!! My kids all had burritos and they were massive!! Everyone went home with leftovers and the prices are good! BEST MEXICAN FOOD IN TOWN!!! I came here to vist some family and heard of this restaurant. Its a genuine hole in the wall restaurant. AMAZING service I had their chicken burrito it was delicious. When they bring the food they bring their variety of salsas for topping and all of them had their distinct flavors. We also had their tacos and menudo super flavorful and the meat was tender and not greasy. The restaurant was clean and their staff made it even better I felt at home when I walked in, treated me and my family with love. Don't let appearances fool you, it is not what is outside but what is inside that counts! The food. The chips were maybe a bit overdone but the salsa was house made and super fresh. 3 of us dined in. It will help if you speak a small amount of Spanish. We ordered tacos de Carne asada, enchiladas (half pollo and half carnitas) and a carnitas burrito....we were NOT let down. Dont expect style in their plating....just foxus on the food. The tacos were authentic served with country onions and radishes....and they did not skimp. 3 tacos will fill you up!!!! The enchiladas come as 5 small enchiladas and may have been the best of group. The burrito was enormous and tasty fill with Spanish rice frsh avocado slices pico and a hefty portion of meat. We left full, happy and satisfied knowing I've finally found a good spot. Too bad there is not one like this in Pensacola. read more
