First and foremost this is a great salon. I came here give or take about 5 times. As a Brooklyn native living in Long Island it takes me a very long time to find decent hair salons. It's Very clean , and relaxing environment! The owner is very very nice & Very affordable but my MAIN problem was the way the this one lady handled my hair. Each and every time my hair was being blown out I literally got my scalp burned like no tomorrow. Every other time I gave it the benefit of the doubt and come back but it doesn't get better To the point I started feeling like the lady was doing it on purpose and even coming from under the dryer with fully dried hair why am I constantly being burned. As a African American women I've been to many Dominican hair salons and know how much heat is tolerable. AND It's very subtle and you won't notice until it happens to you but certain workers pick and choose who hair they wanna do and as soon as you walk it you can pick up facial expressions and I don't need to understand Spanish to read body language and actions. especially the one lady closest to the sinks ! read more

I started coming here just a few months ago on and off. I usually travel to queens to get my hair done but unfortunately the commute is getting ridiculous so I need to find someone closer. Of course I found his business in YELP, where else would I look. This salon is always clean you never see a mess of cut hair or anything hair related on the floor. The stylist are always friendly and they never try to pressure you to get things done to your hair. The first time I went Honey touched up my hair and she did an amazing job. Whenever I go there now. Honey is the one the does my hair. I'm not a fan of the blow drying so I normally get a wash and set and that's it. If it's close to touch up time and my roots are looking crazy. I will have them only blow out the roofs and nothing else. Since coming here my hair has had minimum shedding. They pricing is always reasonable and I would recommend anyone to try out their services. I still love my salon in queens but when I don't feel like making that commute Mi Salon is where I go. They definitely get your hair pin straight here. If that is a goal for you and you can withstand heat damage then you've come to the right place. I traveled 35 minutes from Nassau County for a blow out service and trim. Mission accomplished in 2 hours. I've been natural for going on 6 years now. I have extremely thick and coily hair. I've been to Dominican salons for most of my life. This salon in my opinion is a traditional Dominican salon. When I arrived I was greeted at the front desk by who I believe to be Marcia (the owner's) daughter. I told her what I wanted and she suggested a deep reconstructing shampoo and conditioner line along with the blow and trim service I requested. My hair was extremely dry and needed T.L.C. I have been rocking my hair in wash and go's and a bun for months without a proper trim or blow out. I have a private stylist who I go to and someone who does silk press out of a salon. I normally heat style twice a year. She took me to the sink and I was very happy with the wash. She detangled my hair perfectly. No tugging. Loved it. The styling part of the service that followed my wash, disappointed me. Pain is beauty right ? What I was very unhappy with here was the type of rat tail comb and wire brush used to blow my hair out and the technique. "More" did my hair and while she got my hair pin straight, it was an extremely painful process. It took a lot of pulling and yanking because they don't use a lot of product here to smooth the hair cuticle during the blow out. I wasn't too thrilled with the overall styling part of the service. I had to ask for a trim after being heat styled into the pit of hell. After trimming, she asks " Is that good or more ?" I've never had this happen ever. My hair was flat ironed and she was done and on to the next client. My hair was not styled or curled to compliment my face. I asked if she could flip the bang, like Farrah Faucet, but she didn't understand how. She just combed it back. She didn't care to be a "stylist". Maybe someone else should have done my hair ? Maybe I got the wrong stylist ? I will stick to silk pressing my hair going forward. I get why it costs more now and why it's worth it in the long run. A week later and my hair is severely heat damaged. What was once curls is now damaged scorched hair. I would never advise that anyone who has healthy hair come here. Never again. read more

Found this salon thanks to yelp, read some reviews and figured I'd give it a shot. I called and asked if I needed to make an appointment and the girl said to come on in. Got there and someone washed my hair and washed it so damn well to say the least. It felt amazingly clean afterwards. Ivelisse (I am almost 90% sure is her name) asked what I wanted. I told her I just wanted my hair layered and a sweeping side bang. She did exactly as I needed to have done. She was just great! After wash, cut and drying my hair looked just as I hoped it would and better! It was also a great price. The ladies chatted and laughed the whole time and it was a great experience overall! I walked in around 8:45 on a Saturday morning to find they were already open for business - nice! The salon was bigger than it looks from the outside, which always helps. I was helped right away and the woman helped me out of my jacket and hung my coat, another plus. I told her that I was there for a wash, deep condition, blow dry & trim. I was taken to the hair wash station right away. She had hands of magic, thoroughly washing my hair and complimented the health of my hair (flattery never hurts ). After my wash I sat under the dryer with a deep condition in my hair (heat helps low porosity hair absorb product better) and she told me that I needed hydration (which I knew, and I did). I was impressed with her knowledge of natural hair. After washing out the deep conditioner, it was time to start the blow dry. I was pretty disappointed that she used little to no product, meaning no heat protectant, in my hair prior or during the blowout though. My hair came out perfectly straight and she trimmed it well. My hair has never looked or felt so healthy! When I was told the total was only $35 I had to tip generously. She was freaking awesome! First off the lady knew I only wanted my hair blow dried but decided to flat iron my hair but I decided why not. The heat they use to get your hair dry and bone straight will have your scalp scorching. My scalp was burned so much after a week I decided to wash my hair and this is how much hair fell out. My review is for a wash and blow service only. I was in desperate need for one while I was in Long Island after a mudrun. I searched for a salon with a decent price as the salons in Deer Park, Commack, Babylon all charge $45 and up. Insane. Ridiculous really. I gave this salon in Brentwood a try and even though I paid more than I wanted to I was so happy with my blow out. It lasted me a good week! (The slicked back pony tail looked super chic.) Very sweet staff and owner, I would definitely go back there when I'm in need of one and in Long Island. I would give it 5 stars but I kept having to pull my head away from her and the intense heat of the blow dryer. Thanks ladies! read more

I can't believe I've never written a review about this place. I moved from the Bronx to Dix Hills, I dreaded the commute to the Bronx just to go to my hair salon. Someone told me to look into Brentwood to deal with my thick, coarse hair. I yelped for hair salons in Brentwood and this was the first one on the list. I decided to give it a try and I'm happy I did! The place is nice and clean. Staff is very nice but understand just a little bit of English but no worries they will figure out exactly what you want done. I am so happy to report that I think I've found my new salon home! I have had terrible, terrible experiences with salons so I have mastered the art of doing my hair myself. But I needed a trim really bad and knew I wouldn't be able to do it on my own so I started the search for a salon. Thats when I came across Mi Salon. They had good reviews and were a 20 min drive from my home so I figured let me give it a go. I am so happy I did. I have nver felt so welcomed at a salon before in my life. My mom is fairly tender-headed and doesn't like a to sit under the heat of the dryer for too long and the ladies were very accommodating. Marcia and her girls do beautiful work and have proven to me they are experts in all types of hair. I have thick, coarse, African-American hair and they know how to care for it; I leave happy with my hair every single time! I first came May of 2018 to get my "big chop", which Marcia perfected and cut my afro so evenly, it has grown so much since then. The second was January of 2018 when I asked for a semi-permanent color I bought from the store to be put in and straightened; once again very happy with the results! And the third was this week for a wash and set. They give a relaxing wash and set with products that soften my hair and they do not pull and make the process painful even when detangling, but are still able to get it right every single time. Went on a Tuesday during the day and it was not busy. I went to wash right away. I got a deep condition. Yvette was gentle and made sure I was comfortable. I have thick curly natural hair and am sensitive to heat so Yvette took her time and made great conversation. I got a blow out and trim. My total was $40 (I got extra conditioner because my ends were very dry and brittle which was $5 extra, it is normally $35.) Overall great experience, will go back again. read more

I showed the woman the hairstyle I wanted which was a hair I had last year. It was an inch or an inch and a half shorter. She said okay! I told her I was on chemo and just needed it an inch shorter. She gave a mullet and cut basically all my hair off. I had hair that went past my shoulders. I have a mushroom cut where my hair doesnt even touch my ears. She completely did what she wanted. Disregarded everything i was asking her not to do and said no it will look nice. I left that salon in tears. So now im on chemo and i feel even more ugly then when I went in. I came here on a Sunday in July and was happy to walk-in and they took me even though I had to wait. Then I came another Sunday during their hours and they said they are closed and said they would be open on Monday until 8. I rush after work and now they walk out and tell me their closed after I was told otherwise. I like the price but not the aggravation especially when they make up their own hours.
