We had been enjoying the local hot springs, and I don't think our leisure attire and wet hair were appealing to the well-aged "hostess." I use that word generously. She repeatedly looked me up and down. The staff was transitioning to dinner, which was fine. However, they clearly had no interest in helping us. We received menus after 10 minutes and were then ignored again. This is not the first time I've had bad service here, and I will never come back. I had a lousy experience about 7 weee ago and was trying to look beyond...We ended up having a lovely $300 dinner at the Calistoga Inn. Which is the only thing keeping me from giving this place five stars. Similarly, the menu was also catered more to adults, with plenty of vegan options but very few items suitable for kids. That's not a knock on this place, just something to take note of. As a result, we opted to snack on a few items and the caviar and duck fat fries did not disappoint. The espresso martini with pumpkin foam was also excellent. But the really cool part about this place is the vintage train cars, each intricately decorated and offering their own dining/drinking experience. For example, one offers an oyster bar with underwater decor while another features a cowboy bar with real saddles as bar seats. The cleverness in design and attention to detail is impressive and is what makes this place special. I doubt there is a more interesting place to have lunch in Calistoga. I'm a fan of what they're doing here and would love to come back. Minus the kids of course.

I'm six months pregnant and started vomiting that same night -- not exactly how I pictured the start of my vacation. It ended up ruining part of the trip and was really concerning, given my situation. We're not sure if it was the food itself, the multiple dogs roaming around the restaurant, or the man who served us wearing open-toed sandals, but it all felt unsanitary in hindsight.
