Bun Ha Noi; chargrilled marinated pork with spring roll ("mix combo" option), noodles, salad and veg. (Takeaway.)
    Sam H.

Working fairly near to Mi & Pho, and as my colleagues are on a bit of a health kick right now I suggested that rather than the usual Friday fare of McDonald's or KFC we branch out and try something different. Mi & Pho came back with a hefty 5 star rating on the Yelp app (thank you Nearby feature!) and it looked pretty good, so I suggested it. I am SO glad I did. The restaurant itself is a fairly small unit on Palatine Road, right in the heart of Northenden, but I'd say there's still room for a good 20 or so people at a guess. With this being a work lunch, our order was to take out, but I'd happily go and sit in. The restaurant was bright and clean, and the smells coming from the kitchen were amazing. The order consisted of the Mi & Pho Special Noodles with Pork, or as they describe it "their version of Pad Thai"; the Bo Ko Beef Stew with Noodles, though you can have rice or a baguette instead; the Jasmine Rice with Chicken; and, for myself, the Bun Ha Noi - I went for the "combo" version, which involved marinated chargrilled pork with spring roll, noodles, salad and veggies and fish sauce. I also took the staff up on their offer of chopsticks, though two of my co-workers were too chicken to use them. The Bun Ha Noi was stunning. I'm sometimes wary of ordering pork, because I've been to too many Chinese takeaways where the pork was more fat than meat and tough as old boot leather. Thankfully, Mi & Pho's pork couldn't have been further from that if they tried - it was moist, juicy and had barely any fat through it. The marinade was also delicious, and the fish sauce was some welcome moisture for dipping meat and noodles in as there was no other sauce on the dish. My colleagues were equally impressed with their choices, though we were all in agreement in thinking that the best choice of carb to go with the Bo Ko stew would be rice - only because noodles didn't do a very good job of absorbing the delicious liquor from the stew! The staff were super friendly and really helpful, both over the phone whilst I was placing the order and when I went to collect it. The prices are also very reasonable - our order for 4 came in at a touch under £25. I'm already planning my return visit as a sit-in diner, so that I can fill myself with a broader range of the food on offer from Mi & Pho! Just a few things to mention if you're planning a visit, though. First off, and I think this is the big one, they don't take cards. It's not the end of the world, though, as the Post Office has an ATM and it's right next door. Secondly, there didn't seem to be a great deal of parking on Palatine Road. There may be space around, but I don't know the area very well and so maybe just don't know where it is. Mi & Pho, in the words of the Governator - "I'll be back".

I'd heard only good things from friends about Mi & Pho, so I jumped at the chance to dine here. Having not had Vietnamese food really at all, to ordering it several times at various places over the last year or so, I can say I'm becoming much more familiar with it. On a Northenden main street (not too far from Alexandros, a fantastic Greek place btw), there weren't many diners inside when we arrived at 7pm on a week day; but we're glad we booked as it wasn't long before the place was full. After a friendly welcome and being talked through their menu, we ordered starters to share and a main dish each. My salt & pepper squid starter was exceptionally good and a generous size. Salt & pepper chicken wings were nice, but I preferred the ones from Pho in the city centre. Main course for me was their chicken, beef and pork pho. Again, a sizeable serving but it didn't reach the tasty benchmark of the one I'd had in Saigon Lotus. My friend's deep-fried sea bass was very good (I was told) and I can attest the stir fried aubergine was hearty and delicious. It's not quite five star-worthy from this occasion but there's plenty of great dishes on the menu that I'll return without hesitation. The fact it's bring-your-own-booze with no corkage is another massive bonus! Tip: Order the plain papaya salad as a side dish - it's uber fresh and gorgeously tasty. Tip: They only accept cash payment but there's a free cash machine close by.

I had a fantastic birthday lunch at MI & PHO yesterday with the wife. I can highly recommend it. Very honest food, the family team is super nice and welcoming, the ingredients are bought fresh every morning and the cooking is delicate. We had the Goi Du Du Salad and the vietnamese pancake to start followed by a chicken pho and their current special Bun Bo Hue (hot & spicy round noodles). The dishes were super tasty but what I like most compare to other Vietnamese places is that they cook you the basic recipe, not very hot, not very salty. My Bun Bo Hue was actually quite bland initially but that allowed me to tweak the spicy, salt and sweetness the way I liked it with the fish sauce, chilli paste, hoisin sauce and the sriracha. Check out the photos, definitely a great lunch or even dinner type of place that won't cost your skin.

Went here at the weekend for Mother's Day. Had heard good things for was looking forward to it. I have had Vietnamese food a few times recently so knew what to expect - although Vietnamese food does tend to have coriander which I am not a fan of. However, that was no problem as we asked for everything to be made without coriander - and it was no problem. We arrived just before 12pm - they had just opened. It did mean it was a bit cold in the restaurant but it soon warmed up. Gradually more and more people came and it warmed the place up - both in heat and atmosphere. In fact when we left around 1, it was a pretty much full restaurant. Mi and Pho is run by Vietnamese family - its always a good thing eating in a family restaurant - get to taste the proper food. Instead of ordering our own dishes, we decided to order a few starters and few mains and basically all share. We had the summer rolls, salt and pepper squid and Vietnamese pancakes. The summer rolls, which we got the prawn one and prawn & pork one were really nice with big prawns. Lovely squid. But my fav was the Vietnamese pancakes - its quite a simple thing but tasted delicious. The basic filling is beanspouts and onions with different fillings - we went for prawn. The pancake looks like its egg but its flour, coconut cream and turmeric. Recommend all the starters! For the more "main course" type dishes - beef stew dish was really nice as well as the platter dish we got. Pho had a taste of coriander in it so maybe in the stock. But I seemed to be only one who tasted it so maybe it was just me. We had put some mint in so maybe its mint I don't like now too?? We also had a seafood noodle dish. So overall really good food, nice friendly service and well worth a visit. As Michael B has mentioned, they only accept cash payment but their is a nearby cash machine. For parking, there is some parking just passed the restaurant (if you're heading North-East towards the M60) on the left in-front of a big row of shops. Free parking on Sunday. Monday - Saturday between 8-6pm you can park for 1 hour. So if you are going for dinner, should be OK.

The food was EXCELLENT!! It's a small place so I suggest you make reservations if you don't want to have to wait. I was very excited and mouth watering when going through the menu. Fortunately the food matched my expectations. Very, Very good. The papaya salad was extremely tasty. The fresh rolls and fried ones were great. I got a taste of everyone's food and it was all so good. The beef stew was made with seasoning I hadn't tried before. I love it when that happens. Highly recommend this little gem. I must also add that the service was phenomenal. The staff was very attentive and helpful. The food came out pretty quick too. They charge a corking fee and you can bring your own bottles of wine. Will definitely return when we are back in Manchester.

I'd definitely call this a decent pho and bun hue place in Manchester standards. We ordered a rare steak pho and rare steak bun hue. The chilli oil dunked into The soup match nicely. And to top it up, food came really fast! The only improvement was that the soup wasn't piping enough when it arrived. I always like my soups to come smoking. . .

The name upon arrival was also i thought a really bad choice, the connotations of bistro is not one that is synonymous with any part of South East Asia. The atmosphere upon arrival was verging on hostile, the three people who worked there clearly had some issue with us, im not quite sure what, but they were lovely with the old middle class group just in front of us. We ordered spring rolls for starters, not my choice but they turned out to be really nice. I had never eaten them by wrapping a mint leaf then a lettuce leaf around it before dunking it into some dipping sauce; a nice touch i thought! However, one again the service from the three women was steely in its resolution and the wait for food was just far too long! Upon arrival we were given a few prawn crackers between five of us, for the amount of time we had to wait for our order to be taken let alone the food arrive, i would have have thought several more would have been in order. When the food eventually arrived we were asked if we knew how to eat the food, it was at this point she, the manager it would appear, noticed we had a South East Asian girl with us, and said 'ohh of course you know how to eat it'........................ Words literally escaped me! Christine is of Vietnamese descendants , but what an unholy assumption to make! The girls then asked for Sriracha, a standard Vietnamese sauce, which they had no clue what it was. And instead got really quite funny about them asking for it and interrupted the meal several times wanting the name of this illusive sauce. In the end they brought over chilli chopped and raw. The food i had i thought was utterly delicious, i order the green curry as my first baby step into Vietnamese food and was delighted! The girls who all ordered Pho, said it was okay but they had had better. The one saving grace in this place in the cook, without him this place would have closed long ago! It is fair to say though that the massive wait for food is directly due to the fact that he is the only chef. In summary food very good, service absolutely crap! The chef on his own would get 4-5 stars, the service 1, so it really depends how badly you wanted to be treated to get a reward. People with sub ordination fetish' s, i feel you might love the service!

My friend and I went here a wee while back, and it's a fab little hole-in-the-wall spot. The menu has rather a lot to choose from, so if you're indecisive, prepare to scroll through a lot of delicious-sounding options. We started with the spring rolls, which I normally avoid as they can be boring, but these were crispy, oily perfection. The squid is also a must-order to start as it's perfectly fried in the lightest of salted batters. The egg fried rice with meat and veg was what I chose for a main and it was absolutely delicious. Everything was cooked beautifully and there was some kind of cured meat in with the rice -- tasted similar to chorizo but less spicy. I loved it! The prawns were perfect and the portion was spot on. The whole experience was low-key, chilled out, and perfect for a quiet, cheap, delicious bite out. I wouldn't call it date territory, but don't let that give the impression it's not worth a visit. Fantastic food.
