We absolutely love going to Mezcalito! Whether it's the one in Clayton or the one in Apex, we are always met with consistently delicious food and wonderful service. Mezcalito is a BUSY place, while they don't do reservations, they usually can get you seated within a reasonable amount of time. You're able to grab a drink from the bar and wait outside for your table to stay out of the way. It can get pretty loud on the weekends, as the music blasting, and the restaurant is bustling! But the food is so worth it. I always get the ACP, I always feel completely satisfied with how much I've eaten, and have leftovers for the next day! My husband switches up his meals every time and has been completely happy with whatever he has gotten. The drinks here are such interesting mixtures and always come out so pretty! This is definitely my favorite restaurant in town. The food is amazing. It is quick, fresh and yummy! But that's not why we go there, we go for service. 10 out of 10 every single time. We go once a week at least and have never had a bad experience. Mayret is our favorite server. She is the best. Sweet, accurate and even always remembers my husband's food allergy. We sit in her section whenever possible but honestly we've never had bad service from anyone, not once. The place is gorgeous also and I love that they go all out for holidays with decor. We had reservation for 8 people on a Wednesday night. The restaurant was full, and so was the parking lot. We arrived 10 minutes early, but our table was already waiting for us. The food is delicious, large portions, nice atmosphere, music loud enough to hear but quiet enough to communicate without shouting. Our waiter, Yeriel, was great, moving quickly, attentive to all our needs, making sure everything was in order. He made sure I knew that since we were a large group, the tip was added to the bill. Even though it was clearly marked on the bill, Yeriel made sure I knew that the tip was added to the bill. I was impressed with his professionalism. So this one is a mixed bag review. I have heard about this restaurant from a few people. It is an impressive restaurant driving up to it. Lots of parking which was needed because this place is busy with a capital B. We opted for outdoor seating, which was nice. It's covered, with patio lights throughout the ceiling and surrounded by planters. I bet it's wonderful at night. Gives vacation vibes for sure. I am pescatarian so was able to find plenty of seafood to eat. I ordered the vegetarian fajitas because I liked the vegetables that wee included, but I added Shrimp. This is "not" a low calorie option btw. My husband had some dish that was a carnivores dream lol. He is also a Margarita man so ordered one and cost what a regular margarita costs BUT it was in a glass almost as big as his head. He said it was so good, and soo strong that he wasn't sure he would drink it all unless I was going to drive. Now, the food was great! My only little criticism is they should add more vegetables to the vegetarian dishes because if I didn't have those shrimp added to my fajita I would have been disappointed. All of the food was good. Periodt! I enjoyed it alot and the waitress gave us some tips on when to come when it was less busy. Why I said this was a mixed bag review? There were small things that I am going to call nits but not deal breakers. I would give it a 4.5 if possible but since it's not, I'm going to hit them with a 5 and just explain! The ambience is amazing, they decorate and go all out for holidays and love the decor. The music is fun, albeit a bit loud at times. The service is on point and all the servers are super friendly! I know typically at Mexican restaurants, food comes out quickly. That being said, the last time we went we ordered appetizers and didn't have time to finish them because the entrées came out within 2 minutes after; there was no room at the table. As much as the food coming out quickly is appreciated, I would recommend ordering appetizers and waiting until they're finished prior to ordering again. I usually do this anywhere I go, but wasn't able to with the group I was with. Everything seemed a bit rushed. All of that said, it doesn't take away from the food, ambience, and service. This is some of the best Mexican food I've ever had! We've had quite a few dishes at the Clayton location and thoroughly enjoyed all of them! We've had the queso, guacamole, pineapple ceviche, chipotle agave tacos (my husband's favorite and so stellar, I will be getting them next time), the Birria tacos, fajita quesadilla, and Mexican street corn on the cob. I will say all the food was fresh and hot, even the dishes that were delivered! I'd recommend all of these but love the chipotle agave tacos! I visited Mezcalito for the first time on 10/11/2024. My friends, (total party of three) arrived about 15 minutes before me at about 5pm and were seated promptly. The interior is rather small; however, there is a huge patio on the outside. A few too many bees and flies for my taste; however, that is very difficult to control. Everything else was lovely! Our server was very gracious and took good care of us. I had the Quesabirria Quesadilla, which was just absolutely yummy with the consome dipping broth. I also had the blue motorcycle drink, which was yummy and reasonably priced. And one last thing I have to mention. This restaurant was decorated absolutely beautifully for autumn/Halloween. I can't believe I haven't reviewed Mezcalito yet! We are so lucky to have Mezcalito in Clayton as it's become a cute, fun spot for dinner and drinks in the area. My favorite dish here is the ACP Trio (arroz con pollo trio) which has steak, chicken, and shrimp. Portions are always generous, food is always flavorful, and service is always good. They have plenty of outdoor seating under umbrellas as well. We've also tried their birria fries, a bunch of different taco flavors, and the pastor quesadilla. The birria fries were a bit salty and I'm not sure what the difference is between the regular one and the pastor ones, so I think I would pass on this dish next time. I have been wanting to try this place and after a year, I finally did. It did not disappoint. However, my biggest gripe is that it's very expensive. It's practically in the middle of nowhere and off of 70 a few miles. I sat outdoor because inside was packed with a 30+min wait. The patio is large, nice, they have shades, fans and air conditioning machines. The inside from what I could see looked nice. The service was fantastic! We had a sweet Cuban lady (forgot her name sorry!) the menu was very big with many different options. As a Mexican, I loved seeing the variety and a mocajete. The queso dip is delicious, the free salsa is really really good. Better than these other places that are trash Mexican food like La Cocina. They have a variety of tropical style foods like plantains mixed in here and there, lots of good ceviches. The margaritas are STRONG so it makes the $14-30 worth it. They have some less expensive margs but they are towards the back and kind of hidden. The food was really good. My plate was $30 called El Chingon. The steak was cooked to my liking, the shrimp were perfect, the enchiladas were good. I didn't care for their rice much. It seemed a little too cooked or old. I would go again but for a night I wouldn't mind spending like $100. For 2 margaritas and my plate I spent $75 for 1 person! That's a little much but it's a nicer place. read more

The vibe is very upbeat, great drinks and food, and service has never been bad for me! I've had their fresh guacamole, shrimp tostones, and quesabirria quesadilla - all with no complaints. Everything definitely tastes fresh and made to order. Their salsa that comes with the table is smokey, setting themselves apart from the majority of Hispanic restaurants that provide chips and salsa. This was the WORSE Mexican food experience I've had in my entire life. To start off I ordered to go, I had my family over for a holiday party. I arrived at the restaurant the lady managing the Togo section was very nice. The experience went down hill from there. The food was cold, and it was DISGUSTING. The rice was covered in butter and that's the only thing you could taste, mind you this is Mexican rice. The shrimp has no flavor whatsoever. We ordered queso and we go graded cheese. The cake tastes like cornbread with condensed milk drizzled on top. On top of that we ordered a cheese quesadilla for my niece who does not eat meat, and it had not only chicken but steak in there too. I called up there and spoke with Axel who ensured that he would give us a refund for our bad experience. He said he would call be in 30 mins to confirm. He never called back. I called the next day to see why I didn't receive a call back and again another manager said for us to call when Axel was back. I called Tuesday which was the day he said he would be in. He was in fact in and the receptionist told me he was on a break and he would call me back at 4:30 that day. Mind you, this all happened on a Saturday. Of course 4:30 came around and I did not receive a call. This is extremely unacceptable. I was thoroughly disappointed with my experience and I will NEVER be back and I will encourage others to not come here as well. The food is gross and management does not conduct business as they say they will. If I could give them 0 stars I would. read more
