First off this about the Baribeau St. Croix Falls location. Long story short as possible. Stopped…read moreby on March 27, 2026 to check about getting my New Holland Compact, Work Master 25S, looked at due to a "not running well at full throttle" issue that just started happening out of the blue. Dave, Service Dept. head, was anxious enough to take a few minutes trying to get me to setup an RO right away after I gave him a "Cliff Notes" version of the issue at hand. The typical thing about "it could be just about anything" from fuel issue, and related filters to having to remove the "canister" sending it out to get cleaned and reinstalling it to the tune of around $600.00 +/-. He seemed honest enough, though he had an uneasy grin on his face, which seemed unusual to me for someone in the repair service business. This made me a bit skeptical in my feeling I was getting the straight take on the issue at hand. Because of my frequent traveling I mentioned I would give a call back for scheduling. Went home, did a little bit of research and found only references to a "canister" on my tractor, as the one for the air filter housing. Now at this point my history of automotive mechanic knowledge started to return to me and I thought why not look at the air filter and the "canister" to see if I could spot anything unusual. Well much to my surprise the "canister" was simply a plastic housing the filter was inside of. I removed the air filter installed a new one. Started that wonderful YANMAR 3 cylinder diesel up and low and behold "POOF" the problem disappeared. It runs like a top. Moral of this story, Dave Schultz could have said, "Let's get you a new air filter, you install it and see if it runs any different. If so, great you good to go, If not bring it in and we'll investigate for you." BUT NO he could only see $$$$$ instead of a friendly DIY possible cure and had deep appreciation from a customer that would've returned for service work as needed and possibly a sale of other equipment or attachments. Poorly played Dave, poorly played. Identifying myself will not do me a bit of good because he/they probably don't care.
