Tacos La Pachanga - Birria Planchado taco (red taco)

La pachanga never disappoints!!! The food is authentic and delicious. I've been here a few times…read moreand the food is always consistently great. The elotes is always a must get, but the tacos are some of the best I have had in Detroit. I always make it a point to try and come here when I'm visiting. The staff is so sweet and truly treats customers like family. I'm thankful my cousin put me on La Pachanga, because although it does not look like much it's so good.

Apparently, they changed management and rebranded on September 2022, but it is still the same company. El Agave Taqueria itself appeared to have incredible ratings. The place doesn't look like much, not to mention they're located within a gas station. But don't sleep on it! You'll be surprised by what you find! The food is delicious and authentic at a reasonable price. Honestly, probably one of the most authentic-tasting places I've had in the area. The portion is quite huge too. There's a small dining area, but many people order take-out. I tried the quesabirria dinner because it's one of their most recommended items. It's huge. It's a little over $15, under $20 with 20% tips, but it's huge. I feel like it's the size of 2 meals. It's 3 large soft-shelled red tortillas filled with birria-style cooked beef with melted cheese, onion, and cilantro, served with a side of rice and beans, and consomme for dipping. The beef can be a bit tough and tender, which is why you deep it into the consomme, and it soaks up all the juices. It will probably send your blood pressure to the roof and double your cholesterol level on your next bloodwork if you have it too often, but what can you say? It is delicious. Drink lots of water after because it is pretty salty. In addition, I get to try their Elote and their chips & guac. Guac is awesome. I love chunky guac, and that's what they deliver. Plus, the avocado tastes fresh. Elote is creamy, salty, and sweet all at the same time. Definitely a delicious snack. Overall, great food! EXCELLENT service. The staff is incredibly attentive, kind, helpful, and patient.

Special thanks to our waitress Elma for her Outstanding service and attention to our table needs. She is quite the professional. My wife our lady Friend both enjoyed the Alambres steak filets that was mouth watering as usual served with Spanish rice and potatoes. Complimentary Poblano homemade Soup by Mama Garza. I order Chef Luis Garza's El Horno which is salmon on top of white rice smothered in a homemade lobster sauce with a large shrimp on top and wrapped up in a banana leaf. My friend ordered the Steak Fajitas. He enjoyed the sliced steak cooked in butter with onion , bell peppers and covered with a white cheese. Side dishes of salad and poblano soup of course. The entire restaurant had tables filled with various colorful well plated dishes thanks to Chef Luis and His staff. The French say Bon a petite ! In Spanish it is " Disfrute de su comida "! Oh, Oh I almost forgot they have a very hot white creamy Habanero pepper salsa for your homemade and warm corn chips in addition to the two red hot and mild salsas' , I mixed a tad of this with the guacamole . Be careful this stuff adds a new meaning to hot!!

Especially since it was taco Tuesday and a lot places will skimp on quality. Customer service was good ,looked like a family run operation, which I can appreciate. Unfortunately in this area, they have some customers who arent the nicest, but they appeared to handle it well while I was there. Prices are pretty decent, comparable to what you would find in Southwest Detroit. Although, this looks like it is in the Gas Station, it actually has a separate door for the entrance as soon as you enter the gas station, and its decorated pretty nicely inside. I would visit again, and try more of the menu. But for now, the Carne Asada, Al Pastor, Birria and Carnitas meat are all tasty,

You order at the taqueria and then they give you a receipt to pay at the front counter of the market. I went in for takeout during a weekday lunch and saw a steady line of people coming in while I was waiting for my food. I ordered: Asada Fries, Small ($8.99) - Fries are a nice base, can't judge them too much since they were steaming in the container for a bit before I ate them. There was a good amount of melted cheese throughout the fries, then they were topped with tomato, cilantro, onion, carne asada, avocado, and sour cream. The asada is quite a bit fattier than other places and is chopped pretty finely. All the ingredients came together well into a good dish. I just wish the meat quality was a bit higher. Al Pastor Burrito ($9.99) - This burrito was filled with fluffy Mexican rice, a small amount of lettuce and tomato, some sour cream, cheese, and corn. I wanted carnitas (as I always get for a first burrito), but they said they only had it on weekends. Instead, I went with al pastor, which was well cooked on the flat top, with a smoky, perfect char and a savory and slight fruity taste from the marinade. They put a decent amount of meat in the burrito; it weighed around 21oz in total. It was a good burrito that was well constructed and could be eaten in hand without falling apart. Not an outstanding burrito, but one that I wouldn't mind eating again. La Favorita also gives a free bag of chips for takeout and 3 types of salsa: red (hottest), tomatillo, and avocado based (mildest). One nitpick: neither the menu hanging on the wall nor the menu pamphlet have accurate pricing. Seems like they never bothered to update anything after they raised the prices.
